Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Colors print issue with Qimage on HpZ9

If the HP Designjet Z9+ has the same incompatibility with QU's integration of the HP printer driver as the HP Z3200 has then I fear you have more issues with the Media Preset setting in the driver not sticking instead of issues with the color management choices. With the HP Designjet Z3200-PS my last step in setting up a print job is opening the real driver settings again and checking the Media Preset again, the portrait/landscape mode and the print quality settings (300/600PPI + gloss enhancer modes: off/economy/whole page) and then an OK. If QU's printer menu window then shows another media preset I am not worried as I know the real driver settings are OK. This way the other QU's printer driver menu windows (size, portrait/landscape, 300/600PPI) will show the settings as done in the real printer driver menu. The other way around, setting everything from QU's virtual printer driver menu can give problems on Media Preset and portrait/landscape setting in the real driver and the print quality setting dropping to the default. This applies as well on jobs taken from the log file. If the HP Z9+ + driver behaves the same .......... I have no experience with that printer and driver. I am very interested to know whether that is the case or not though. Hello Mike, This must be quite a step in the color management, LCMS can handle it but nevertheless. Any advice on rendering intent to choose as we will still be faced with RGB device profiling for the OEM printer drivers? I guess for CMYK color fidelity absolute colormetric. Most inkjet photo printers have a gamut bigger than the usual CMYK spaces. BPC ? Is this a prelude on more to come like Lab images support? Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Show a cut mark on edge ?

What Fred said. I'll only add that in your case, you should probably try Crop Marks (which extend outward from each corner) and Mark Corners (which bracket each corner against each print). Not sure which you'd prefer. Regards, Mike I use these quite frequently. The only trouble is that when you make your first cut, you cut of the guides for the next (two) cuts. I don't think there is any way around this without having the guides on the cut print. I manage it by extending the mark in towards the print by a mm or two with a scalpel. So when I cut off the first edge, I can then see where to cut the next two from. Jules I suggest to read my other comment in this thread. Ernst, op de lei getypt.

Great ... will have a look later.
Thanks for the reply's and photos.
Add 0.5mm white borders + corner marks and cut just within the marks. That way you waste less paper and keep marks on the printed image up to the last cut. Do not nest the images too close, cut becomes better with say at least a 2mm strip cut off. Cutting marks that extend from the corner as used in the graphic industry have more sense when stacks of sheets are cut together on a guillotine cutter. Ernst, op de lei getypt.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: ICC and Quality settings

Hi there iīm new with QU and Coming from Germany. I use a Epson SC-P600
My question is:
I get some ICC-Profiles for my likely used paper and the settings for make those ICC is set to 1440 res. Now in all videos is said to sett Quality to the highest res, so is more than this 1440.
All other sources says to get a fit ICC is to use all settings like they where set to make the colorpattern is used to calc the ICC for the printer, the paper and the ink. Do not so , they say, is probably to lower the quality of print use a different setting. Allso i think some time i waste time to use a res i dinīt need for small printīs.
What do you think about my thoughtīs ?
I hope you can understand what iīm thinking about and i dont make whorst mistakes in writing. Itīs ~ more than 35 years since i learned last time English. Speaking mot but writing not.
Have a nice day. schorschi
Color targets are often just 300 PPI or 360 PPI. While the profile creator documents say to use the same settings in target printing (but CM off) as will be used in normal printing, the OEM printer profiles exist in only one flavor these days. If print quality suffers in the normal setting (300/360 PPI input requested) versus best (600/720 PPI input requested) then you could get bad target patches but that is usually an indication of bad printer behavior and no base for profiling anyway. In the past there were ICC profiles for different printer quality settings, I recall it for the Epson Stylus Pro 9000, about fifteen years ago. About ten/twelve years ago that disappeared for the printer brands and printers we use with their normal OS drivers and their semi RGB-device ICC profiling. My best guess is that compensations in the printer driver or hardware take care of possible color shifts nowadays and we can use just one profile for a media/printer combination in all quality settings. With RIPs as the driver and their CMYKetc ICC printer profiling it may be different, might differ between RIPs as well. Hello Mike, Reading the Auto Roll length announcement I thought 'not for me with a Z3200'. The video proofed that. But with the knowledge that the other feature Roll Paper Trimming worked more or less with the Z3200 PS3 driver I could not resist trying this one out with that PS3 driver. No Qimage warning produced so I guess you only tried the PCL3 driver and have the warning triggered for that driver or printer identity. I have the Z3200-PS revision A printer. The first trial seemed to work right away and ignored even the Preview choice setting in the PS3 driver. Unexpected and no cheap paper on the printer for the trial so cancelled it immediately on the printer. I noticed that the max length of that Auto Roll was something like 1500 mm. I thought you added an arbitrary length for it as I have printed longer lengths. Exploring it more it seems to be the length of initially selected print page (custom or OEM) in the driver. I could extend that to 3480mm roughly by changing the initial print page to that length. 5000mm did not work. When Auto Roll Length is clicked on the driver defaults to Letter size internally. That Letter size does not show in Qimage but the Auto Roll Length shows. When I go over the 3480mm length the Auto Roll Length feature does not split to two appropriate lengths for the images contained but multiple ones depending on the image sizes loaded on the print page. At least with about 14 400x500 mm images on a 903x3480mm print page and loading the 15th it goes for 7 lengths each filled with two images and one missing. Taking out one image it goes back to 14 images on 3057mm print page length, longer than set in the initial print page so there is more to gain I guess. Adding and deleting images in different quantities delivers odd combinations of print page lengths and not always the most economic image nesting. 2x 7 images on two print page lengths wastes more than 8 and 6 on slightly different print page lengths for the image sizes I mentioned. Could be some differences in the image sizes loaded. The 903x3057mm trial just ended with a print that length on cheap paper. This time the driver Preview choice worked also. It took an awful long time in processing to that Preview state though. For production somewhat shorter print page lengths processed after another gains time, processing done while the printer is already busy with the first length is a better choice. So thank you Mike and please do not add a warning for that PS printer/driver model. I will explore the feature + that driver more. The ability to open the driver dialog with driver defaults has been added to 2019.105.
Mike
Hello Mike, Could it be that you also found a solution for added media presets in the Z3200 printer/driver? This time I added the Photorag Ultra Smooth media preset and it stays in the Z3200 driver while Qimage mentions Unlisted [270] as the "selected" media. I assume it would work without issues in printing and I guess you added something or this must be another hickup of HP software. Never seen it before. Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Qimage suddenly prints landscape (as if paper was horizontal)

From time to time I have a similar problem with my HP Z3200. Totally different printer and aimed at roll printing but nevertheless; if the physical size of the roll width is even 1 mm less than what a 44" (1118mm) or 35" (914mm) roll width should be then a landscape printing page that is set at 1118mm wide will automatically turn to portrait mode on its way to the printer. The printer measures the width when the roll is installed and the driver adds the auto turning "feature". So I keep a bit of tolerence by using print pages 1mm less. Last week however that was even not enough and a stroke of 180mm wide and 1117mm long (several color proofs) was printed at the right side in the length of the Photorag roll. Does not make you happy. Careful QU intelligent nesting of the bigger prints on the remaining sheet made it less an issue. So check the real sheet size and what has been set in QU or driver. Totally different printer though .......... Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst http://www.pigment-print.com/spectralplots/spectrumviz_1.htmMarch 2017 update, 750+ inkjet media white spectral plots
