The word text in the above sentence, do you mean floating text can be used or do you mean that the external image has to contain the text saved in the image file?

I want to take my full size image files and put floating text on them and then scale them down to JPG files with the floating text in tact. This is to supply the customer with facebook or email samples but to show my copyright and contact info for my own marketing purposes. How do I do this?  I don't want to use print to file because then there is a white border around the image and I want to be able to specify size in terms of pixels. The same is done very easily in Lightroom using the mogrify plugin.  In mogrify I can even put a background behind the text and even change the transparency of the text and it's background.  How do I do all this in QImage Studio?  I suppose you're going to tell me I need to make a copyright/signature image first for the transparency issue. That is fine. But even with using the copyright/signature function I don't think the "Create e-mail/web size copies" function will preserve the copyright/signature stamp.  Please help.  I bought Studio with this specific purpose in mind but am frustrated because a tool that I already have does a better job than QI Studio or I'm just too stupid to get it to work in QImage.  Please shed some light.  This is supposed to be a simple operation not a complicated procedure.

I must admit I was a little sceptical about not taking the photos to Photoshop first but after seeing the results I'm very happy.  I must add though that my white balance was spot on straight from the camera as these were studio shoot photos and white balance is the first thing I do before I start shooting.  I love my new workflow!

I'll definitely recommend Qimage to other colleagues and show them the benefits of printing in-house (even though much more costly).  I love to have control over my final product at last!

I have printed a few 4x6 photos with 3mm white borders yesterday.  I used the margins adjustment method that Fred A suggested and did a print preview until the print area was perfectly in the centre.  Then the print came out perfectly centered with the borders even on all four sides. These test prints were made from RAW photos taken straight from my 5D and cropped in Qimage at print time and using the default sharpening and Hybrid SE interpolation and they are perfect.  Thanks guys.

Thanks guys for the feedback.  It's good to know the waste tank will last a long time.  Only thing that has me puzzled is that I'm on the original set of cartridges that came with the new printer and the waste ink is already down to 64%.  I remember when I initially installed the inks it was at 79% or something and this was due to the ink charging process for filling the head etc...

I have read the article on borderless printing and one paragraph grabbed me and made me wonder.  It is written that the printer (or driver) keeps a count of how many prints are made in the borderless mode and then one fine day when the user wants to print a message or error will come up saying that maintenance is required (exchange waste tank or clean sponges etc...).  Delving into more detail, specifically on Epson printers (mine is a 3880) does the driver/printer count prints made in borderless mode or does it actually monitor the waste tank level or amount of ink sprayed past the printable surface area?

If I set the printer driver to print borderless and then in Qimage increase the margins all around the photo to something like 8mm for argument's sake, then obviously there will be a nice broad white border around the edge of the print and thus no ink will overspray into the waste tank or sponges even though the print head may still move past the edges of the paper.  Will this type of print still count to the printer or print driver as overspraying and filling up the waste tank or not?  If it does count as overspraying then the waste tank could be only 75% (just a thumb suck figure) full but then the maintenance message could display that it needs replacing.

I will try it out.  Like I said I haven't printed yet but just did print previews so far.  I think I will try actually printing a few samples to establish which method is the best and most simplistic.

Don't quite understand.  Do I have to specify borderless printing in the printer driver to achieve the thinner border?

By doing this (what I've suggested) would it be possible to get narrower borders than the default borders as set by the printer driver?

Thanks Fred.  What if I select "Borderless" in the print driver with minimal expansion...  

Then in Qimage specify to disable borderless and overspray expansion. I read in one of the threads that Qi will prevent the printer driver from actually expanding the print beyond the page edges.

Then specify a border of say 2 mm

By doing this it might be possible to have narrower borders than the default as set by the printer drivers.

I haven't physically printed yet and am just fiddling in Qimage with the settings.

I am a new user of Qimage and love it so far.  I like to print photos for my customers on Epson media with thin white borders all around. The reason I like the border is because of handling by the customer to prevent fingerprints on the photo contents itself. Basically what I do is just simply to specify in the print driver to not print borderless and then the print comes out with the default white border dictated by the print driver.  There is always the small variance of the border width left or right because of the small tolerance in the paper feeding position.

Is there a way of getting this white border a little narrower? Is there a better and more accurate and elegant way to get this thin white border around my 4x6 prints without using larger paper and printing multiple 4x6 on the larger paper size with borders specified in Qimage?  Obviously I would like to get the print as is out of the printer without having to trim the edges of the paper to get the border right.

I have just purchased and downloaded the Studio Edition.  I will try it out tonight (still two hours away from going home here in South Africa) and see what I get.  I'll first play with the RAW convertor without the custom profile.

Thanks Fred.  I just wish I could have tested the RAW processing myself before buying.  I guess I could still use LR for my cropping of the RAW files and then open up QImage and do the RAW processing and then convert them to TIF from QImage and then import the TIF into LR.  What I'm trying to say is that I really like the LR workflow and being able to pick the best photos from a whole lot of photos after a shoot. Just another question: If I have the Studio edition and do not buy a camera specific (canon 5D) profile, can I still use the RAW processing of QImage or does it require an installed camera profile in order to work?

Thanks for clarifying the floating text part Fred. Most of the time I use a textual copyright signature on my prints but only very seldom I use a graphical one.  It contains my name and website address for self promotion basically and for insuring the buyer can contact me in the future for future business.

I do indeed shoot in RAW and sell my work.  I use and love LR for processing my RAW files into TIFF.  Almost every image that leaves my printer goes through some photoshopping. Also the catalogue functions of LR is outstanding.  What advantage would there be to process RAW files with QImage instead of LR? Would QImage give better quality TIFF files than LR?

Sorry for asking so many questions but you know how it is when an old dog has to learn new tricks.
