The curves tool of PS and Qimage Ultimate differ a lot and I have to admit that I prefer the one of PS.

Thx for the quick answer (as always).

I got it working. I had some difficulties when the image had different aspect ratio than the cutout. The size of the brown border varies (it is smaller in the long side in panoramic image). The mathematics are not clear to me. But that's a minor thing. The main thing is that it works for me.

The user interface with the cutouts is interesting. Also the use of Black colour (not png-files instead) and the convention of using .frame in the file name are interesting.

ps. I learned using the word 'interesting' from an English gentleman. We had lunch in my country and we were eating some of our local dishes. When asked, he described them as 'interesting'.

Is it possible to create a fake passe-partout with Qimage (or Ultimate)?

I realise that 120cd/m2 can look too bright in a dim room but it's important with respect to printing that the screen looks like the print in that respect. You do need to view the print under proper conditions

A common complaint here is that prints look too dark, usually because a monitor is set too bright and the image has been darkened to suit that bright screen.

Exactly! That's why I use 90 cd/m2.

The brightness value out-of-the-box can be as high 170-180 cd/m2. No wonder the prints are too dark.

LCD with LED backlighting ...wow, talk about bright.  I find calibrating even more of a challenge.  My first attempt produced a white point of over 7000K!  If you have any suggestions they would be most welcome.
I use 90 cd/m2. The often recommended 120 cd/m2 is too much in my dim light room.

Thats exactly what I have in my template.

I was thinking something like a call from the OS like this:

qimage.exe "Drive" "Folder" "Template"

for example

qimage.exe "C:"  "\scanned\folder1"  "6_Square_Images"
qimage.exe "C:"  "\scanned\folder2"  "6_Square_Images"
qimage.exe "C:"  "\scanned\folder3"  "6_Square_Images"
and so on

I could do that. But then I would lose the information of the folder.

The 48 folders are results from scanning old negatives from 1950s. The folder name tells me something about the subjects and the approximate year, there is no exif info in the negs  Wink. So it vital to keep the folder name.

Thx, for your help anyway.

The images are all different. The number of images in a folder varies from 3 to 20. There are 660 images in 48 folders. Thats why I have the folder and images names in the template.

I would have to do that for 48 folders. Is there a simpler way?

Ok, here the task.

I have 660 images in 48 folders. I have made a template to print 6 images/page with folder and image names.

Is there any way to print the 660 images with the template in a batch with Qimage?

if you would have said the above.
He wrote that in his second post (#4):

So I want to know what the file size is in inches at 300 dpi.

So pixels with inches and resolution is what I want to see at a glance.
That's the standard way in Photoshop (as long you remember to tick off 'Resample Image').
I dont see nothing wrong in this. If you always use 300ppi, you will get quickly the feeling how long/wide the print will be. The final print size is a different thing, as he wrote.

It sounds as though you are assuming that everyone prints one image per page
On the contrary. I have never had a problem with one image but printing several prints per pages creates the problem with the borders/margins. Here is the old thread. The problem is described in the image of the first post.
http://ddisoftware.com/tech/qimage/unequal-borders-again/

As said, now I can handle this. Mike's answer in post #3 tells how. I have used this solution since and it works ok. The only nuisance is that everytime I have to calculate the left/right/top -positions. The more images you have in the page, the more you have to fiddle with the positions. So I created an excel sheet to help the calculations. I still think that could easily be included in Qimage.

Basically no, but sometimes yes. In my 3800 if you choose Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, you will presented a new (old) choice 'Printable Area'. The choices are Standard/Centered/Maximum. The default is Standard which gives you different left and right margins/borders.

(Old: if I remember correctly, this choice was present in all Epson drivers some 5 years ago).

I dont know why Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper has this choice. And I dont know if the above is true for other Epson drivers than 3800.

You also may want to read the following article, Figures 15,16,17:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/printers/the_epson_4900_printer_hands_on_and_down_to_work.shtml

In the past I have struggled with margins and borders (for me they are the same, but Qimage has separate meaning for them.)
If interested look at threads in the Qimage area (Unequal borders/ Different borders). I still dont understand why Qimage does not include the Epson hardware borders when defing the Qimage margins. Now I think I can manage the margins/borders, but I have to calculate the print locations parameters in Qimage myself.

In the same area there is also a thread called "Centering 7900 sheet prints".

Sorry to interrupt. Stan, what Media Type you have selected in the Epson Driver?
15  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Sharpening and paper on: September 06, 2012, 09:00:51 AM
Thx for the fast reply (as usual, I really appreciate it).

Ok, I will make some tests with different sharpen values.

But I am quite convinced that matte paper needs more sharpening than glossy. And some experts seem to share this:

"Regardless, the necessary amount of sharpening will still likely depend on the image content, type of paper, printer type and the look you want to achieve. For example, matte/canvas papers often require more aggressive sharpening than glossy paper". http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/image-sharpening.htm

and

"If you're printing to an Epson ink jet, you'll need more sharpening for matte media than for glossy media." http://www.pixelgenius.com/tips/schewe-sharpening.pdf
