Perfect nozzle check and printing color just fine today  Grin
will have to try another ABW test .. just don't have much time to test it yet .

Had a chance yesterday to run an Unclog Cyan and Blue pattern perfect!
And Black pattern perfect.
Removed the driver and re installed it in case it was a corruption problem .
Will have to do some test prints soon when I get another chance, to see if this continues.

Funny I know.  I think it is air in system rather than head clogging.
Jeff
You are absolutely correct Jeff. After printing on both a Epson 7900 and 9890 for the past 5 years,  I have surmised that  depending on the machine and usage, it can be caused by any one of a number of reasons.

Thanks Fred,
I had a low LC cart and a will do as you say.I had tried with "printer manages color" turning off Qimage controls. I had a feeling it might be Cyan channel related, as it is the compliment to magenta and adding it extra with the toning in ABW did somewhat resolve it.
Busy framing today, will try as soon as I can!

5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Suddenly getting magenta cast in Epson ABW mode on: May 27, 2015, 03:13:52 AM
Hi all,
haven't been around in ages cause I have been doing just fine ...until this week!
I have been printing exclusively with Qimage Ult for 5 years on an Epson 7900. While I don't do very much B&W, I have printed many very nice B&W neutral tone prints on Epson Exhibition Fiber using the ABW mode with no problems at all.
I am suddenly getting a magenta cast on all my grey scale and RGB B&W prints.I have reinstalled the Epson 7900 driver in case it was corrupted in some manner, and I spent the better part of today trying every configuration of the Epson ABW driver and Qimage settings and it seems the only way I can eliminate the cast is to add a negative 35 points (adding cyan), into the horizontal tone setting in the advanced settings for ABW. My nozzle checks are fine, and my color prints are fine.which leads me to believe that it is ABW itself that is the problem. I even had a B&W job saved, which had printed fine before, and it is also getting the Magenta cast. I have tried printing on Premium Luster, and even plain office paper with the same results.
I have researched this on LuLa, and it seems others find the ABW mode wonky also.
What bothers me is I never had these problems before, and I'm stumped on this one.
Any Ideas?

6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Combining DFS and TTS on: October 30, 2012, 03:30:50 AM
what Dennis said Fred!
That is why I originally asked if Tone Targeted sharpening would implement DFS because the title above the slider still says USM Tone Targeting

The TTS slider box title  should probably just say Tone Targeting now, since there is a choice of either USM or DFS   TTS  Wink
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Combining DFS and TTS on: October 29, 2012, 09:32:26 PM
Fred, Terry, and Mike...
I think DFS is terriffic and fully understand that it is better than USM, and how it works .My original question to Mike...

http://ddisoftware.com/tech/qimage-ultimate/v2013-100-issuescomments/msg12667/#msg12667

and confusion  about the new DFS TTS, was centered around the fact that the title for the TTS tool in the application box still says USM Tone Targeted Sharpening rather than DFS TTS, or just TTS, leaving us to choose in the drop down pull out on the left side.
Just a matter of semantics  Wink

 Mike,
Any plans on adding TTDFS to the new sharpening tool ?
I often prefer to do selective sharpening.

9  Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: Moving a big lump of a printer. on: July 02, 2012, 12:38:17 AM
It is most important that the head be secured from moving and getting damaged!!!
Hopefully you have saved the little blue foam contraption that was securing the head assembly in a locked position when you first received the printer!  The manual has a few pages on how to move it starting on page 181
There is no strength in the end parts of the casing, all the strength is in the center frame, and I would stongly discourage standing it on end and moving it that way.If you have to move it some significant flat distance I used a flat furniture dolly centered under the main bottom frame after it was taken off the legs. You can tilt it up if needed to maneuver it through doorways (with the head parked,- right side down), but don't stand it upon end and leave it that way.
Hold a moving party and get 4 people to help lift, carry, and position it ;-)
I'd also recommend doing a uni and bidirectional head alignment when you have it in its new home.

10  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Reconfigured Epson 7900 from USB SOLVED! on: March 16, 2012, 02:01:36 AM
After way too many wasted hours, and way too much frustration ,I returned the Ethernet switch and cables, purchased a powered USB hub, took 5 minutes to remove the printer from the control panel
I plugged in a heavily shielded USB cable that I had spliced together from 2- 6' unused Microtek scanner supplied cables,
turned on the printer and the computer and Presto wiz bang -instant gratification!!! Grin
The 7900 printer works flawlessly  through Qimage as before , with no indication of any loss of quality whatsoever on the long cable. All I have to do now is load the carts in the 9890 and 'plug-n-play' it in.

I am somewhat familiar with general computer usage as I imagine most people are, and have solved many issues on my own, but once it goes beyond a certain level I'm in the dark.   It's a real love - hate relationship Roll Eyes

Thanks to all for your advice and help!

11  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Reconfigured Epson 7900 from USB UPDATED Need HELP on: March 15, 2012, 01:14:23 AM
Thanks Ray,

FWIW I was a camera tech in another life and  we used to "get a bigger hammer" if the first didn't work Wink
I am begining to think it is indeed a comm problem, I know it's not Qimage. Wink
It does appear to be  related to the off -on sequence of the printer -computer, and whether or not Q is running when I turn on the printer.
One time it is recognized, and the next not. The weird part is sometimes both the status monitor and printing from Q work flawlessly, and the next time the status monitor works and printing doesn't, and then visa versa Roll Eyes
When the  status monitor tries to query the printer from the icon on the system tray it doesn't work either.
I am somewhat familiar with, and have gone into all the menus in all the places there is an ability to change or check settings to no avail.I have completely deleted all the Epson files and driver and reinstalled -to no avail.
Epson has a Network utility but I didn't think I need it since I am not technically on a network,
but just using a network switch to connect and share the ethernet port on the computer. I haven't even gone as far a connecting the 9890 yet, which was the reason for using the ethernet switch to begin with since they do nor recommend connecting USB over 6'.  I am trying to weed out the existing problem first.

I have not tried from any other app, so I will try and print from Photoshop and see what happens
Thanks again, David

PING Huh?
12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Reconfigured Epson 7900 from USB UPDATED Need HELP on: March 14, 2012, 09:16:44 PM
I'm about as frustrated as I can get.
I somehow got it going again and then the printer would not print from QI again.I went to the spooled jobs and there is a choice toprint offline which I did and the printer kicked in and printed.Went back to QI and both the stsus monitor and the printer worked as they should.
Turned off the computer went to print and Q told me the printer was not ready though it was. Status monitor shows the big red ? again. I seem to be going around in circles.

Q shows the printer on the correct port, I've made sure I dont have duplicate copies of the driver, and that the port is configured for bidirectional data, and i am really too afraid of going into the registry and messing around in there.
I guess I'll call Epson tech help tomorrow and see if they can tell me what's wrong ,but I know already they will say they don't offer support for third party apps. Cry Cry

13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Reconfigured Epson 7900 from USB UPDATED Need HELP on: March 14, 2012, 02:21:11 PM
Thanks Fred I found it but and with the current driver it is showing again..

BUT as before Qimage processsed the file and the printer just sat and didn't do a thing  Cry

Removed the printer configured it back on the same port and now it prints again but the status monitor doeesn't show again Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
I give up at least the printer is printing and it appears Qimage recognizes my saved settings which was my initial goal I now have 1 printer with the correct name (no 'copy') and the heck with the status monitor!

I can check ink the long way around through the utility tab, and if I have to cancel a job I can do that directly on the printer.
My frustration level is at peak, and it just isn't worth the wasted time just to get the status monitor to pop up.
Thanks for the advice,
David

I hate computers Wink
14  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Reconfigured Epson 7900 from USB UPDATED Need HELP on: March 14, 2012, 04:08:57 AM
Ray,Thanks for the suggestion but it is the Epson Driver.

I have been doing some more digging around. In the manual it indicates that on some network connections it will not show ink levels, but it did work before I switched drivers. The problem is that not only doesn't show ink levels but whole status monitor also doesn't pop up as before.I did manage to find the location of where the check box to show it is located (in a most inconspicuous place)  Roll Eyes, so maybe it is disabled there,  and I have also read that it requires bidirectional communication on the port so maybe the port is not configured correctly, or I need to put it on yet a different port and go through the un-install proceedure again and manually install printer with the latest driver on a different TCP/IP address Roll Eyes.
Will have to check everything tomorrow at the store.

"If that original driver was uninstalled after the COPY1 was installed, then I would delete the drivers, and reinstall. Takes 5 minutes!" Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Cry

Fred,
After removing both printers and trying to reinstall the original driver (not copy1)the computer kept on putting copy 1 back on.
Finally rebooted at each step and managed to remove the copy reinstall the original old version of the driver. Roll Eyes
tried to print and Qimage processed the file brought up the driver and ...no response from the printer.Downloaded the latest driver and finally figured out how to install it in Win7 Pro -in  the control panel -install a printer or device -reinstalled the printer a second time and found the wizard to put the new driver in,  and it prints from Qimage now...
BUT... I have lost the printer status monitor display that used to pop up and stay up untill the printer was shut off.I no longer see Ink levels etc.
I cannot seem to find an answer how to activate it again.
I seem to recall a check box somewhere but cannnot find that either.Win7 Pro- Epson 7900
When I try to show the satus monitor from any of the right click menus It displays a big ? and is evidently not connecting to the printer even though the driver now prints through Qimage.
sorry a little long winded here

Any thoughts,
As always thanks in advance.
David
