Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Create a layout w/templates

Thanks Fred (reply #2) and Mike (reply #3),
You both nailed it. I used Mike's step-by-step, on my 'internet' desktop, to do each step on my QU desktop. When you clicked "IntelliCenter", I said Ah-Ha!! That's probably my missing step. I had been using 'Freehand', and just, previously, tried 'Template'.
In fact, I hadn't used (don't remember seeing all those choices) on that panel before, or had always used 'freehand'. Is it called Print Placement? Where can I find a definition of those choices?
Whoops, back to appreciating Fred and Mike for your rapid replies of excellent, concise help. Even though I have used probably only 1% of the tools of QU over many years, it has been a fine, one of the best, 'programs'; I go back to 1981 (Apple+ and E). VisiCalc and Visidex. :-) or :-(
Many thanks, Gordo

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Create a layout w/templates
|

Specs: Epson 600 (or 3800) Paper size 5x14. Two-Up Print Size 4.4 x 6.4 w/ 1st border .07 , 2nd border .04 (borders outside print dimensions). .19 margins all around & w/ .38 between the images.....will be folded there to a 5x7 card. QU doesn't allow B+ borders and those sizes.... for location of the templates. I've drawn these specs in Turbocad - They fit. Also I have drawn and used same above specs for "one-up" (7x10 paper folded to 5x7) greeting cards, in QU, for years.
Worked with this for +hours, watched Mike's 01/19/2011 video. Made notes. There's probably a setting in there I'm missing. QU v2019.122 Thanks, Gordo

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Problem using templates created 3 yrs ago
|

Hi Fred, Sorry for my "empty" starter question :-( My subject template is for a 5x7 greeting card on 7x10. On the back (when folded) there's a 1x2 logo image.
Since posting, I found the replacement for the "Print Properties" dialog - (Prints). Also then found the location for "Rotation". Therefore the desired thumbnail loaded properly with my two borders and proper margins - then I rotated it.
Ya-Butt, the logo image didn't load - just the proper sized and location red grid place marker. I'll try another thumb image (using the same template) to see if the same logo image loads on it. That logo thumbnail is in another folder than the front-of-card thumbnails. But in the QImage v I've used previously, the logo image opened simultaneously with the 5x7.
Thanks, Gordo

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Test Strip - Won't print a T.S. of the second image (2-up on 12x28")
|
on: July 14, 2015, 09:03:21 PM
|
First time using "Test Strip". Have read paragraph in "Help". Test Strip for upper image on page worked fine. Went back out, set same parameters for lower image (Select, Test Strip: Crop & Reduce, drag to position the desired portion of image in my selected 7x7 T. strip size, "Done", back out to "print button"). It won't print a test strip of the lower image, it repeatedly prints T. strip of the upper image.
Tried several times, even turning off QU, printer (fresh start). Won't recognize/print the lower image. MS-XP, Epson 3800.
Thanks, Gordo

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Saved/recalled jobs loading, editing problem
|
on: April 23, 2015, 08:12:32 PM
|
Same MS-XP-Pro, Same R2400, same driver, same paper size. same page size. Click Recall, Select Job: "Unable to load printer driver settings for 2400". Click O.K. Red placeholder, but no image. QU v212.217 note on recalled job.
In folder containing desired thumbnail I click "+" of the desired image & it loads, 180 degrees rotated. I manually rotate it 180. Then if I double click image in preview and, for example, add brightness, it does so, I click O.K. and it downsizes a bit and changes margins to unequal, as it returns to preview screen.
I've tried 6 or 7 different recalled jobs, tried a lot ry possible border, inside/outside, margin settings.
Probably 95% of my Qimage usage over ~ 5 years is the above jobs - 5x7 greeting cards (when folded) printed on 7x10 vertical, 2 borders & .25" margins all around. Now Gone South :-(
I've been recalling, printing these jobs, with my eyes closed for years...what's up?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Layout w/6-up: margins, space between: lost in "print-to-file" process.
|
on: March 25, 2015, 08:47:36 PM

Fred,
Please note my problem in subject line of thread & in previous text:
First: My problem is not the creation of a new layout with different specs. (your attachments). Second: The problem is: With my job on screen, I select "Print to File". It then drops the 230,230,230 background & the .16 spacing I have specified. and replaces with its own spacing, etc., characteristics.
Note, We both have used Paper: 7.375 x 7.125. Page: 7.147 x 6.897 and stayed within those dimensions. What is your result when you go thru "Print To File". My job is blown up in "Print-To-File".
Perhaps Mike has the answer: Does the "Print To File" process drop/modify some of QU's specs?
Thanks again, Gordo

Fred - thanks for the reply,
R2400 - Printer paper 7.375 x 7.125. 6-up 2x3's w/.03 & .06 borders = 2.18 x 3.18 with .16 space between & .16 margins TBLR.....which adds to the 7.147 x 6.897.
At the top of preview: "Page: 7.147 x 6.897 (720 x 720)" That's almost precisely the inch size of the 230,230,230 background.....exactly what I'd like to see on a web page. Not what my second para of 1st post describes.
The R2400 has non-printable areas TBLR on the shy side of .125 Which I've been aware of in this project - and always (since 2/8/2008 $610.) :-) :-( Note printer paper size above.
Those "Print-To-File" guys have messed with the .16 spacing between photos, & the .16 margins all around (TBLR) of the montage, and eliminated the 230,230,230 background of the whole page. G.

Layout: Page size 7.147 x 6.897 6-up w/ 220,220,220 background, with specific margins & space between (.16). In the "Print To File Setup" dialog, I don't change the above Page W or H. Res. 72, Adobe & the "Don't change print sizes" is checked.
Then clicking "OK", the Page changes to 6.900 x 7.150 & the background is lost, & space between & margins changed.
I have prepared those original layout parameters for a 7 page product web site. 72ppi jpg. What's up?
Help, Please

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: How to save a Job in .jpg to become a web page?

Thanks very much, Fred.
Two more really neat features in Qimage to know of. Your step by step and attachments really help show the path. BTW, I was in the "Print to File" dialog yesterday and worked it and clicked "OK". That was a dead end for me - didn't realize that clicking the "Print" button (upper right) would get more "Print to File" dialogs. I've been clicking that button for years to print a hard copy.
BTW, I installed -118 right after finishing the last exchange....made me feel like Rip van Winkle.
I still think you should be knighted or awarded some sort of title/prize for your long time QU efforts. (cc) to Mike :-)

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Create a layout - one 2x3 in center of 8.5x11 page
|
on: February 23, 2015, 10:36:49 PM

Hello Mike,
Thanks for the UTube link. Watched twice - it cleared it for me. I saved as Layout: 1- 2x3 in center of 8.5x11 (for invoices). And then did a Layout: 9 - 2x3's (Gallery - for show and tell purposes).
For clarity and brevity, I thought the universal standard for graphics, screen/display, etc was: eg 2 x 3 first number (the 2) is always width - Left & Right. The second number (the 3) is always height - up and down. You know, the "X" & "Y" axes. Horizontal - left & right along the "X" axis. Vertical - up and down along the "Y" axis.
Therefore Clarity: If the first number (always the X value) is larger than the second number ("Y" value) then it's a horizontal (rectangle). Conversely, if the "X" is smaller, then it's a vertical. Therefore, no need for silly (next paragraph) labels. Apparently along the way, the Philistines came into the graphics & design discipline with the terms "landscape" and "portrait"......sounds like a couple of old ladies out for a stroll in the park. My professors called that "Fuzzy Thinking", as in out-of-focus thinking. How about "a pinch of nutmeg and a dash of salt"....engineers, describing the design of a truss. :-)
I bring the 2 x 3 and 3 x 2 issue because the "Print Properties" dialog title shows 3.00 x 2.00 when the list at the left shows 2.00 x 3.00....and elsewhere in Qimage.
BTW - I understand that the term "Thickness" has no place in 2-dimensional graphics. Length x width = 2-D. Length x width x Thickness (depth) = 3-D. Thickness of a border, or a line? Impossible.
Even as only a 0.01% user of Qimage, I value it highly. THANKS FOR QIMAGE, and for your ongoing, personal caring for it.
I'll check with Fred & friends with some other questions,
Gordo

Thanks!!, Fred Missed a day. Back at it today - printing & studying your notes & attachments and trying, trying, trying, & still not getting results.
Years ago In Qimage I made greeting card (Templates, Layouts, Forms - they're called?) 4x5, 5x4, 5x7, 7x5 - width x height - on-screen & card dimensions & orientations. I've been filling those templates with photos, to make hundreds of cards. Works very well!!! Actually, this is the only thing I have ever done or even know how to do in Qimage....other than occasionally nudging an image a bit (density, color balance, contrast). BTW, 99.99% of my image editing of my 20MP raw files - is done in Photoshop.
BTW, that's all I know how to do in PS since beginning Adobe in 2002 (Adobe Photoshop LE (Limited Edition - $69.) - then CS2 & 3 ($494 in 2006) Just crop, Levels (set white & black & points, density-middle slider, color balance - R, G, B, sliders), spotting, dodging-burning.
Your comment ".....that's the major part of the problem; you are completely joined at the hip to Photo Shop, and therefore think...." is totally off-target.
In the beginning of my Qimage ~ 5 years ago?, I typed a brief step-by-step of my Template making process, AND a step-by-step of how to "run" it - and referred to it when adding a new card size or orientation template. Now that step by step is not working. I can't get a red rectangle w/diagonal lines.
In my original post, I wanted to make and file a Template/Layout, not a Job. I'd like to recall that layout and fill it with an image as invoices are needed, and of course save those Jobs.
I'm guessing that there are now some settings that are preventing this from happening. When I boot Qimage why in the world do I see 6x4 black rectangles on the screen? I haven't set up or printed a 6x4, in my life - anywhere. The only red I've seen in 3 days is on one of your attachments....and my face in the mirror!
Sorry, this post is filled with background - to indicate that I only know & use 0.01% of Qimage (& PS). I'm a brief step-by-step-list kind of guy. When you say "set page vertical", "Optimal Spaced" it might take me and my newby compatriots a very long time searching for that menu, phrase, button, box. I bet I've tried 15 times, starting with: "Open Qimage, make printer settings, the folder with 2x3 images is open", and that F------ 6x4 layout is still on the screen, and I'm not able to do the one thing that I know how to do - have done it many times.
I need to take a break, go to the shop and get a very large hammer...or a chainsaw!!!
