Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: v8.43 Printer Target PP v4.x Reference Target
|
on: March 17, 2019, 02:29:27 PM
|
The instructions after "Reference Target" included: "Simply look at the name of the data file listed here and make sure that the same name/number is listed on your reference target in the lower right corner." The reference target has 'Printer Target - PP v4.x' listed in the lower right corner. The file listing for ...\Prism\Data doesn't include a file with that name or any other name I can associate with the name printed on the target. The closest to the name in the lower right corner is in a series running from pp-10 through pp-30. I am looking for a dat file to load that will correctly reflect the values on the 'printer-target-40.tif' file set in Printer Target.
Thanks for your help and quick reply, Jim

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Error message when starting 14.101 - FIXED
|
on: August 05, 2013, 06:41:28 PM

Windows 7 64-bit
While using only one account and default settings
if 14.100 is installed, software runs if 14.106 is installed over 14.100, the error message regarding permissions is displayed (see attachment), software does not run if 14.100 is installed over 14.106, software runs, no error message
This series can be repeated with consistent results. Nothing else is happening and no other software is being run between installs, no other problems are reported.
Previously I have uninstalled the program entirely with both unwise and Windows. 100 always runs, 101 and 106 never run.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Qimage

Hi 60,
I purchase large rolls of uncoated canvas, gesso it liberally (if gesso can be a verb), coat it with InkAid White Matt Precoat and run it through the printer. It has wonderful tones and colours. I used Profile Prism to make the ICC and that worked well. The thickness is the same as Hahnemuhle William Turner so that is no problem. I built a wooden frame to hold the canvas for the drying processes.
Are you doing something similar? with good results?
Jim

That works great. I either never knew about talent of save or I forgot it.
I don't think it is the driver as it opens fine in Photoshop and Lightroom after being closed. Either way, your solution works, so that is the only one required.
Thanks again Fred,
Jim

Hi Fred,
What size is the actual print The actual print is 15.76 X 13.76
and what size is the actual paper? The actual paper is 16 x 14
What size does Qimage report that it is sending to the driver? 15.76 X 13.76 including borders
If that looks good, then open the driver from Qimage (Print Preview) and click the Layout tab. Attachment: QimageScreen-1
I am just going to remove all entries in the user defined table with the exception of the one required for printing. That will leave it as the only choice.
Thanks Fred,
Jim

I hope the screen captures are able to describe the problem.
If I use Printer/page setup in Qimage and select the pull down menu under Paper->Size to select Legal 8 1/2X 14 in (Attachment Epson3880-1), close the dialog box and check the setting (by opening it again), it is still set as in attachment Epson3880-1. It also prints properly to a 8 1/2 X 14 in sheet of paper.
If I use Printer/page setup in Qimage and select the pull down menu under Paper->Size to select Canvas1416 in (Attachment Epson3880-2), close the dialog box and check the setting, it is no longer set to Canvas1416 but rather to User Defined (Attachment Epson3880-3). It does not print to the defined size of 14 X 16 in but rather to the first listing under User Defined which is 10 x 16 in.
If I do this under another program, Canvas 1416 remains selected.
Is 14 x 16 the "Page Size"? Yes
What print size is being specified? The print size is being set using Canvas print as 13.766 X 11.766 with 1 inch wrap.
Are you setting the printer driver from with in Qimage via the Setup icon next to the Print icon, top right of the main screen? Yes
What printable area is being reported above the page preview on the main screen? 15.766 X 13.766
What print size is being reported by Qimage in the Queue tab on the main screen? 15.76 X 13.76 (incl. border)
Can you attach a screen shot of the right hand side, Preview & Job Properties etc. please. Attachment: QimageScreen
Much appreciated. Thanks

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Qimage
|

When printing with Qimage to a user defined size on an Epson 3880 the 'size' field in the 'Print Setup' dialog box resets the selected user defined (Canvas1416) size to 'User Defined' before printing and lobs the head off my subject. I have gone through the same procedure with Photoshop and the setting remains at the selected size after closing and reopening the dialog box whereas it changes when set from Qimage. Before I go through any more canvas I thought I would ask if this is a problem created by me or the software. Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / PP VueScan raw

I have used Profile Prism several times - always easily and successfully but not for awhile.
I have not been able to reduce the warnings for brightness on canvas gessoed (matte) and coated with InkAid:
WARNING: 29 patches marked with "X" are at minimum/maximum brightness.
They are all red 'X's in the lightest (top) patches.
It seems most probable it is a limit of the coated canvas but ask for input in case I am making an error. Dynamic range (70.1) and ink coverage (9.9%) are understandably low while smoothing required is acceptably 4 passes. If "Printer profile usable range: 51-255, 51-255, 51-255" could be boosted it would be nice.
Can anyone tell me if it is simply a limitation of the coated canvas?

Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Nikon 4000ED Messages

Are the messages for a film scanner equivalent to those for a flat bed?
The use of VueScan with Profile Prism in profiling an Epson V500 and papers went very well (resulting in pleasant improvements) but the 4000ED is having consistent problems with white balance and shadow detail as shown in the attachment.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: What is QImage "Elevator Pitch"

Funny, I was immediately interested in ddisoftware because the website was not a collection of hyperbole, rather it displayed the characteristics of a technical mind, not a marketing one. To me the embedding of marketing in capabilities descriptions, manuals and technical support is a sign of a marketing company using products as vehicles. It is also extremely irritating when looking for answers. Now as I start using Qimage and Profile Prism it is obvious the products reflect a focus on thoughtful and highly-functional software probably at the cost of market share.
As I build familiarity with the product I am quite certain it will be natural to promote the product when possible. It will also be natural to remember many conversations with other 'IT professionals' who were convinced Windows connected with the file-sharing flavor of the day was superior to Unix. Sometimes it is just a little easier and less painful to bang your head against the wall.
