Okay think I got it.  Downloaded the new driver and Exhibition Canvas Matte appears as it should.  Turned Color Off.  Even set it up so the image can be wrapped around a frame.  Attached Screen Shots.

How'd I do?

Thanks guys for the info.  Now I see that the driver likely needs to be updated.  I did not understand that the profile and driver were separate.  The printer is six months old and the drivers that came with it were probably older than that.  I will upload the latest driver and see if that gives me the fix.  I too was surprised by the Media Type Box wanting me to use the Watercolor setting.  I guess I would have expected it to say something like this paper can be found with driver uploaded as of a certain date or something like that.

I was surprised to read that I should turn color management off.  I assume QU will handle the color management?

I attached the PDF that came with the paper profile.  Basically the same thing is stated on the little bit of paper that comes with the canvas.  Seemed weird to me too.

Thanks for the help.

So I found the Read Me File and it too says use the Watercolor setting I mentioned above.  This file does not make any mention of any other Profile so I guess that is how they intend it to be used.

So, what is the point of having a profile if the computer is not going to use it?  As far as I can see I am not telling the computer accurately what kind of paper is loaded in the machine.  It seems that I am telling it there is Watercolor Paper in it and to print to that.  This instruction is from the file that came with the ECM profile I downloaded from Epson.  It almost seems like they are saying download this ICC Profile and then don't use it, use this instead.

Still on the back end of the learning curve I guess.

The paper that came with the canvas said to use Watercolor Paper - Radiant White if I was not using an ICC Profile.  I guess I thought the ICC would modify the driver so that it would appear under media type.  If I am wrong on this then I apologize for wasting time.

I am running it with the Watercolor setting mentioned and the colors are much closer.

And this one. Under the Media Type Box I cannot find Exhibition Canvas Matte, like you have in yours.

Here's what I am looking at.  Figured out the screen shots.

Hi Fred,

Okay, you said you don't have the profile I listed above.  But in your screen shot I see under media type, Exhibition Canvas Matte.  That is what I am looking for I think.  I am looking to print on Exhibition Canvas Matte.

(The Premium Canvas Matte reference was simply that I tried that one first but it was too dark.)

So I do have the "SP7900 9900 ECM MK v1 showing in the long list of profiles in the \color box you showed me earlier.  I just can't se eit in the Media Type Box like you have it on screen shot number three.

How do I take screen shots so I can show you what I see?

Hi Fred,

Actually have one nice one of a rail yard that does quite well.  Just need a few more where you can get back far enough to shoot a really long pano.

ANyway, I am using an Epson 9900 for this one.  Doing what you said I see SP7900 9900 ECM MK v1.

So its there it looks like.  With it in there should I not be able to see it when I open the print Preview window and select the type of paper?  I did read through Mike's article about ICC profiles last night and it said something about the settings, "Best Photo", having to be right to get it to work.  I played around with those too with no success.

I do have things like Premium Canvas Matte come up, but when I used this the colors were much darker than they should be.  My screen is correct as when I print on other papers with their profiles they come out right.

I there a way to pick manually the profile from the long list in the \color file that might help?

Hi guys, rookie problem here. I am looking to print on canvas, specifically the new Epson Exhibition Canvas Matte.  My printers do not have the profiles already so I have downloaded them.  I believe I have followed the instructions to the letter but when I go to print I cannot find this paper listed.  I have tried this on the MAC side using Preview, after following the instructions for installation on a MAC.  When that did not work I downloaded the profile again on the Windows side and then right clicked on the icon, and then clicked Install Profile as the instructions say to do.  I re-started QU but cannot find it listed.

What am I doing wrong?Huh???
25  Technical Discussions / Printer Media / Question about Canvas and Vinyl on: March 13, 2012, 03:08:24 AM
Hi folks couple quick questions.

One, I have a client who wants a backdrop done on canvas.  It will be 27' long and maybe 36" tall so a long print job but I know QU and the 9900 are up to it.  First, he wants to order on Canvas specifically because he will be taking it up and down and believes canvas is tougher.  He intends to have me leave a border which he will use for attaching to the wall behind his railroad layout.  Seasonally he will remove and replace the print.  So, is canvas a material that can be rolled up and put away on a repeated basis without having a problem?

Second, has anyone had any experience with the new Epson Adhesive Synthetic?  I have been using Inkpress Adhesive Vinyl for many of my jobs but the Epson stuff is significantly cheaper.  Epson usually makes a great product but this will not be behind glass and likely will not receive a spray laquer treatment so I am wondering about the long term quality of the colors.

The Inkjet Vinyl was on my truck for six months and did not bubble, tear, fade, or otherwise look different from the day it was printed so I am pretty happy with their product.

Thanks
26  Mike's Software / Qimage / Scan Line Index Out of Range on: January 20, 2012, 02:14:16 PM
Hi guys.  So I am happy to say that I just upgraded the memory in my MAC from 4GB to 12GB.  Everything is running far better.  Parallels runs far better which means QI has been able to run better now that it has the appropriate resources to work.  I have been running a lot of prints with QI and everything was good until today when I did something different.

I need to print two images each 17" tall x 210" long.  On their own those images print just fine in QI.  I decided to print on 36" paper with one above the other to be more efficient.  Everything sets up fine in the print preview.  After I hit print and the job loads I am getting an error saying Scan Line Index Out of Range.  Then the job cancels and the printer spits out 210" of paper.  Printing on vinyl this is an expensive mistake. (I saved most of it)  Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

I have had this issue in the past but it kinda just went away, not sure how that happened.  If it is relevant I did double check the borders around the print to make sure everything was within the page setting.

Thanks

Yeah I figured it may be something like that.  Honestly the monopod works out pretty well so I guess I will save the survey gear for another day. Grin
29  Technical Discussions / General Photography Discussion / Photo Cutters on: January 04, 2012, 01:30:40 PM
Hi guys,  I have been trying to branch out the business a little from the backdrops.  I now have an Epson 9900 and it seems a horrible waste to have it sitting idle when not printing backdrops.  So, I am trying to do banners and posters, and some photo enlargements.  However, this will require cutting the photos out.  I am thinking that for now I will likely limit it to a max dimension of 36".  Mainly because I am running out of room in the office and paper rolls are living everywhere.

So what is the best cutter type?  Guillotine or rotary cutter?  Is there a trick to it? Is it worth it to get one with a laser guide?

Thanks

Wow a topic I actually know something about.  Panos are great.  Like you said you can take your (my) 12mp camera and create an image with so much more quality by using multiple shots versus the same coverage area with one shot.  Makes some amazing results.

I have found you can get away with shooting handheld but it is good to overlap by as mush as 30% when doing this just to get it right.  I usually shoot with a monopod as travelling with a tripod is a pain.

I have had one real problem with a tripod and I don't know what is causing it exactly.  I will take a lot of time to ensure everything is level.  I even carry a small level in my bag.  As i rotate through the first few frames its fine.  But, eventually, around seven or more frames I find the horizon starts to get a little off.  Is this typical?  Is it because I use a cheapo Best Buy tripod?  Or am I just off a little initially and it gets exacerbated as i rotate?

My images usually have about ten to forty frames in them so I don't know if the length of the shot affects the issue.
