1  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Help would be appreciated. Canon IPF8100 print driver confusion. on: November 15, 2011, 01:09:19 PM
Hello Fred and Terry. Thank you both for taking the time to reply and for your thoughts.

Fred, regarding the canon descriptions, here's what they offer between the two ICM selections.
ICC matching mode: enables color correction inside the printer driver using standard ICC color profiles.
Driver ICM: Enables color correction by the printer driver using ICM function of windows.
HOST ICM Mode: Enables color correction by the host computer using ICM function of windows.

I think what's become most confusing to me here is the cross combination of operating systems. Eg, is windows passing information through to the Mac, which in turn is modifying things through the Mac color management "ColorSync", or is ColorSync bypassed and the driver spools directly to the printer, not a question, just a thought. This was why I thinking of printing test images with "printer manages color" that way I could compare a print from Mac and QI.

Terry, thanks also for your valued input. I think I've spent more time than I should have trying to understand things that are beyond my comprehension, you are most certainly right that the documentation is extensive, to say the least. If it came with a hammer I could use that without confusion.

Will try both your suggestions and let you know how it goes. Thank you again.
2  Mike's Software / Qimage / Help would be appreciated. Canon IPF8100 print driver confusion. on: November 15, 2011, 04:05:22 AM
Hello all, my apologies for asking questions I'm sure have already been answered.

I'm trying to get Win XP and QI Ultimate to play nicely with a Canon IPF8100. XP is running through VM ware fusion on a mac with Lion. After filling my bins with media and ink, I thought it was time to ask for help.

Here's what I've done, but not sure it's correct.
Assuming I have a good custom profile, I select the media profile in QI and then head of into the Canon driver.

Print setup / properties / main / color settings / matching ........ and at this point I'm totally confused with the options listed below.

The options I have are:
1. Driver matching mode (Kyuanos) (I assume a light measuring tool from canon and not applicable QImage)
2. ICC matching mode (best guess is this is selected when using a custom profile outside of QI, but, is it selected if using QI, or do I select "OFF" and select the profile only in QI?
3. Driver ICM Mode (totally clueless)
4. Host ICM Mode (still totally clueless)
5. Off.

The other half of the question is: If I want the printer to manage color due to not having a suitable profile, would l have "OFF" selected in the printer driver and in QI select "let printer driver manage color" or would I also need to select one of the above options as well as selecting QI to let printer manage color.

I hope this is clear, probably not as I'm so confused.
