1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Setting a paper profile to my default on: February 04, 2020, 10:03:55 AM
Thanks Fred,

Yes, that is what I wanted.

The Epson paper I was using is getting hard to source in the UK so I have changed to Permajet Lustre.

The two profiles are pretty identical but I might as well use the proper one - and this default stops me forgetting.

Nothing exciting to report from the motherland. Your friend and mine, HRH the Queen, has had a rough six months. Andrew is behaving like a chump.

Markle likewise. We fully embraced her mixed race background - to attack us as racist is quite simply false and dim so we are not sorry to see her go!

But at least Boris has got us untangled from the Brussels commissariat. WE ARE FREE!

Sorry folk - but you like the easy questions.

It is so long since I changed my brand of paper.

Will someone remind me how, when I have selected the right (new) printing profile, I can persuade QU to retain it and not return me to my old one each time I open up the software again?

No problem on my other machine now, Mike.

Sorted

Thanks

Thanks Mike,

104 loads fine on desk PC.

Will test on my studio PC over the weekend.

Came up for me but only when I moved to my second machine.

I have two identical Win 10 PCs. One on my desk and one in my studio with the printer.

My QU is on drive C of each.

My pix are on an external HDD that I move from one machine to the other. I have my ProgData on this machine as well so I can build 'sessions' at my desk and then print them on the other machine in my studio.

I did not see the Out of Bounds on my desk machine, but it came up when I loaded QU on that other machine to run some prints.

I am not aware that there were any malfunctions.

Puzzling?

6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Re: Moving Fill Slider without opening RAW edit screen on: June 11, 2019, 03:11:43 PM
Having converted about 200 RAWs yesterday and used my 'move the slider x clicks left or right' trick I thought I'd look to see how long ago I requested this.

I know that Fred and Terry are not keen on the idea.

However I see that 2,900 people have felt the thread worth taking a look at.

Makes me think that some people might still like the facility, Mike.

Thanks Fred.

I always start with the pipette dropper and WB. I have done it two hundred and fifty times today on two more recent shoots!!

After a shoot a week agon I have a sequence of shots of bowls on grass. Half of the time it was sunny and half of the time there was cloud.

Doing it your way produces grass of two different shades of grass.

If I cool the shots in sunshine almost the whole way to the right they match the clouded shots.

That is why I wanted to save the slider across all the other relevant raws.

Thanks Fred,

So the way to achieve a change across a batch of files is to put them in a queue, apply a warm/cool adjustment in edit and then apply that to the whole queue?

10  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / White balance slider does not copy across a batch of RAW files on: May 19, 2019, 09:55:26 AM
Good morning gentlemen,

I've just discovered that if I select a batch of RAW files and warm or cool the White Balance with the slider I cannot copy that slider movement across the remainder of the batch.

1. I select a batch of RAWs.

2. I make the White Balance warmer or cooler with the slider.

3. I click white balance in the 'copy' box at the top right

4. I click the 'save' box at the bottom left

5. Only the one RAW I have worked on gets the new slider. All the others are centred at zero.

Has this always been the case or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for any advice coming.

Ron,

Mike is your best guru but in the meantime, until he surfaces, have you ticked the upper radio button in Step 3 and not the lower one? That is when you choose the Print to File option.

I had to do a collage last  week and I think that was the way I did it.

If I am wrong then slapped wrist for interfering. Mike will get you going.

12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: QU Noise Reduction on: November 15, 2018, 10:54:08 AM
Good morning Fred,

My RAW Image Options is set at 2/150 and the slider midway. I guess they were what you recommended sometime ago. Would you go with 1/180 now?

I did not realise that was the setting he was talking about.

When I go to Edit Image I'll revert to my 5/80 on DFS. What would you use on that shot which Terry chose of the man with the red grapes?

White Balance. My understanding is that RAW does not store a white balance setting so the only one I bother about on my e-m5 is when I shoot videos as they go straight to the video format. On those Remembrance Sunday shots I corrected the WB in RAW against the flagpole and in the vineyard one against some white clothing.

Yes my images are far less noisy as I 'overexpose'. I let the highlights burn out on my camera created jpgs. If I am not getting some flashing I know I am underexposing.

Thanks,

I have moved the slider so it is now showing 600-5000 and then 5000+

I saved it my default for the e-m5 mk 2.

I was fascinated to see you pick 1/180 for the DFS. Do you have a work flow for incrementing the two figures to get the best pairing? I've been using 5/80 for ages and that is totally different.

I suggest you reduce the NR threshold for that camera to less than 400iso

Thanks Terry,

Can you explain that in a different way please.

All other points noted. I'll work with ANR turned off. Would you still do sharpening 1/180 and half the EQ slide.

15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: QU Noise Reduction on: November 15, 2018, 06:58:39 AM
I'm bringing this thread back as, yesterday, I expressed my concerns about my Olympus 12-40 F2.8 on the MicroFourThirds section of GetDPI. I felt it was soft.

I'd done a session using two 1.2 primes on Sunday afternoon and an earlier one in the morning with the zoom. I won't bore you with the different circumstances but I did feel the zoom files should have been sharper as they were taken in bright sunny weather. I then looked at a zoom shoot I did a month ago in similar weather and again I felt it was a bit soft.

Something made me wonder whether the softness was coming in from the Qimage RAW processing. On quite a few of the shots the ASA was set at 200 but the RAW refine was 'pushing' me to 410 and over. My default is to have ANR ticked and my threshold for Noise Reduction is 400 - so some reduction was being applied.

I went back to several of the files and re-converted the RAW files with the ANR box unticked. Yes, they are sharper before I apply any DFS sharpening.

I am not sure what to do now. Certainly the 12-40 is probably OK at least so that worry has gone for the moment. With regard to using QU maybe I start working with the ANR box unticked. I'm using the Olympus e-m5 mk 2. Maybe the noise reduction default is coming in too soon, but I am not sure how I change that.

For the GETdpi troops I have loaded a few RAWs as they wanted to have a fiddle with them. They are here if anyone wants to see the ones that were worrying me.

As always any advice and/or ideas are welcome.
