Yep - that's really what I normally do. And that's the best and right approach.  My bad in that I stumbled over this box of Hot Press Natural which (why did I buy it in the first place?) I can't even remember when I last used. So had no setup (I do now). Also trying my best to destroy the printer so that I can buy that bottle ink printer.  Cheesy

Funny - your final phrase "unless the new media type has a smaller page size associated with it." is the one that bit me. I recalled an old 11x17 luster print job but now wanted to print on matte. But the last time I used the Hot Press Natural media type was on letter size paper. So as soon as I changed the media type, of course, I received the freehand placement warning and then had to reassemble the layout. What was nice is that even though it muffed up the size, it pulled up the correct profile, which otherwise I would have had to hunt for as it is a rather obscure file name. This is all easy enough to manage; it did cost me at least 45 seconds of extra work. Just wanted to know that I wasn't doing something wrong; sounds like it's working as it should even though I would like to be able to change media type without it changing the size.

I think I am missing a setting somewhere.  When I change Media Type, I note that Media Size and paper profile are also changing to whatever I had set the last time I used that Media Type.  Is this an AI setting that I can turn off?

One more question - maybe you could do a test for me.  I print a lot of photo albums.  If you have a couple of spare prints, could you lay them face to face and put them under a book for a few days?  Would like to know if there is any problem with the pages sticking together.  I know this was a problem with some dye inks 20 years ago. They have resolved any major issues related to fading, so maybe this wont be an issue either.  Since I am contemplating that Epson bottle ink printer as my Epson stylus 3000 is threatening to go to that permanent nozzle clog in the sky.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but can't you just set the gray background to view on the screen and see if you have any "hidden" white borders, and then remove the back ground before you print?

You are talking about viewing it on screen, not actually printing it, correct?

Just an ignorant 2 cents worth here, but this sure sounds like double profiling.  Please make sure that you have Driver AI turned on!

They are actually already in a text document. Look in the Save folder inside your Qimage Settings folder for files with the job extension.  You can open with Notepad and then copy.  But be careful not to change it because you could screw up the job.

Thank you! NOD32 it will be.  Personal note - NOD32 comes from Bratislava; my Dad was from a village just a few miles northeast of there.

New computer.  Thinking of trying a different anti-virus program.  I remember from this forum that some of them didn't play nicely with QU updates.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you paste a print in the window next to the other two?

So, while we're on the subject - Fred - tell me how you like this Epson printer.  How does the print quality compare to Canon pro?  My Epson 3000 is threatening to head for that big print driver in the sky, and I am considering my options, maybe even 17 inch wide.
29  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Re: Can Qimage be made more robust on: December 24, 2022, 01:50:48 AM
I have created a similar mess on my main workstation and will likely be replacing it in the next few weeks.  It is 7 years old; both C and D drive are almost full.  I have maintained it and done garbage collection fairly regularly and it has no viruses or trojans but all kinds of stuff seems to be running in the background now; really can't run more than one significant piece of software at a time and once or twice a week I will get something like what is mentioned above.

ON THE OTHER HAND, when I am not using that computer, my wife has a really inexpensive Acer laptop that she bought last year.  I installed QU on it to do almost all of the layouts and prep (it's not connected to a printer but I do print to file quite a bit).  I never have any of the kinds of problems mentioned above - no matter how big the queue, the layout, folder size - whatever. In fact I have never had it crash or hang on the newer machine. (and no one has played Minecraft or Fortnite on it either)
30  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: I think this used to work but now it doesn't on: December 21, 2022, 02:24:51 AM
I accomplished what I needed to do by setting borderless  - so that print size equals page size - and then printing to file. work great.

One of the things I love is that QU lets you go back and look at any job that you have ever run - ever.  In my case that goes back 17 years.  So I remember that I had created a set of slides with floating text many many years ago that I thought (mistakenly) that I had created with the "Create E-mail/web copies" command.  So just for grins, I went back to see what I had actually done. And there it was.  In 2009. You'll love this.  I printed to pdf.
