OK I've sat here and watched what happens like a hawk! (I neglected to say that it's not happening every print). So I open a file by clicking on the +. Then click on the Print button. One file is added to the Print Queue. Click on OK in the print dialogue window. 50% of the time everything runs fine. But the other 50% of the time I'm getting another identical file appear in the Print Queue!!
As I only ever feed my printer one piece of paper at a time when the first print finishes I get a printer error. I just hit cancel and empty the Print Queue.
So how does the second file appear in the Print Queue if I touch nothing and just watch? When it happens the printer dialogue box has changed. I have All, Pages 1 to * and selection. I have All checked. But the Pages 1 to * is now 1 to 2.

It doesn't affect my work as long as I don't put in more than one piece of paper at a time. Which I never do anyway. But it upsets my printer as it throws a fit demanding more paper. Poor thing!

Anyway something to ponder.

regards

Thanks Terry. It's showing 1. Should it show 0? And if so how do I get the 0 to stick. It keeps coming up as 1.

I'm having a brain failure at the moment!!! Something has changed and I can't put my finger on the issue so I hope you guys may tell me what I've done.

I'm printing one copy at a time. Always have. I'm about 60, A4, prints into a run of 100. Up until print 50 everything was fine. Now QImage wants to print two copies of each print. I have no idea how or what changed. I've looked at the printer setup and my QImage setup. Nothing seems to have changed. Turned it off. Recalled my job settings and still it wants to print two copies. Print Queue is empty. Sample/1/2 is one 1. Printer is set to single copy. When I'm printing the print dialogue box indicates page 1 of 2. So how and where does that happen?

So where do I look to find where I've change from single print to two prints?

OK. No debate. But I can assure you that I'm paranoid about changing my settings. I have a large client/museum who demands consistency and I first encountered the soft proof issue doing some prints for them. I'm currently repeating an order of over 100 A4 and A3+ prints for them. The 5 year old computer that QImage is on is only ever used for printing. So no changes needed. I've been ok with ignoring soft proofing. My work flow is such that it's only a curiosity exercise. However now I'm more inclined to use it.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I only raise the matter for you information.

Sorry but the ONLY thing that has changed is QImage. No new computer. No new monitor. No new anything. Just QImage.
I'm not complaining just pointing out the fact that the latest version of QImage solved the problem for whatever reason.

And it has only change on my work computer where I installed the new version. As I pointed out my old computer with the older version still has the soft proof issues.

Fred A nothing has changed. Same tiffs. Same paper. Same profiles. Same printer. Same computer. Same operator!!! In fact same customer. Just a repeat run of prints.

FYI I still have the previous version of QImage on an older computer. On that computer the very same tiff gives the previous poor results with Soft Proof. What ever you have changed has worked for me.

OK I'm a few dollars poorer now!!! Thanks. The new version looks nice.

Way back in June 24, 2014 I had several posts re Soft Proof quality. Never did get it solved. The new version I have just installed has great Soft Proof quality. The very same files, tiffs, that I used then now look just fine. So whatever the issue was is now solved.

Thanks.
I look forward to trying the new 'toys'.

Hi,

I've just received your upgrade offer via email. Before I take up your offer I need to know one simple detail!!!!
I'm in the middle of a large print job at the moment. My question is - if I do the upgrade will the new upgrades over write any of my settings and or profiles? I can't afford to lose anytime sorting it all out.

Thanks Fred A. Got it. Mind you it's whole mm out! (Bottom of page is 1mm difference. A rounding error!! Limit of printer). Get a message that tells me to live with the difference. Well no quite but near enough.

thanks.

26  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: uneven borders on: April 19, 2015, 08:47:11 AM
Thanks.
I've tried that.
I get 'strange' results.
Top and left are the same. Bottom and right are the same. But not the same as top and left. ie I'm using A4 landscape. I have figures of Top and left 2.963mm. Yet bottom and right are 2.999mm. Same figures for A3+.

Yeah not much difference. Where I'm coming unstuck is when I order 50+ mat boards and try to square them when mounting. ie all my mounting has to be marginally off set.
Not the end of the earth but annoy nonetheless.

Don't know what I've done. Maybe it's just age!!!
QImage Ultimate. Epson 1410. For some unknown reason, to me, my prints are getting an uneven border and I don't know how to fix it. I'm printing on A4 and A3+ paper. On both occasions my leading edge is about twice the width of the trailing edge. Both sides are fine.
Is there a simply way I can make about a 2mm adjustment? (I have two presets that I Recall for each size of paper that use the same setting except for paper size).

I've run some tests. Using QImage and the Moab profile with the Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster paper.

Comparing the Ilford Smooth Pearl to Moab, the Moab is a brighter white paper. I think that takes some of the 'warmth' out of the Moab.
So I printed using media set to Epson Ultra Glossy and then repeated with the only change being media to Epson Semi Gloss.
Conclusion. - Three photos. Almost the same weight paper. Texture is almost identical. Ilford is a bit more saturated I think due to the paper colour bleeding through.
The two Moab prints are all but identical. I marked each on the back. After shuffling them endlessly both my wife, biggest critic, and I couldn't pick which was which.

At the moment I prefer the Moab results to the Ilford. Softproofing in QImage is spot on. Paper feels good. Looks good. So Moab profile with media set to Epson Premium Semigloss seems just right.

Here in Australia Ilford paper is getting very hard to find.

Just to follow up on the above Moab have suggested using Premium Semigloss.

I think you're right Terry. When I install the driver I'm only given choices for Asian countries including Australia.
For now I'll stick with what I have and experiment when time permits.
Note- I have communicated with Moab. They also suspect a change of media names in our region.

Thanks for the help.
