1  Technical Discussions / Printers / Need more ink on backlit prints on: May 24, 2018, 05:59:45 PM
I am using Lexjet Water-resistant satin cloth on my HP DesignJet Z3200 to make lamp shades.  See https://photo-lamps.com for examples.  The only way I have found to get enough ink for dark blacks and saturated colors from back-light is to print twice by rewinding the roll to the same starting point, with the problem that registration is not always good.  I have tried the HP profiles for HP Transparency Film and for other media such as canvas that take a lot of ink and they all give me much less than double the ink.  Surely there must be a way to modify the printer calibration, driver settings, Qimage settings, and/or ICC profiles to get double the ink.  Any ideas?

Ok, thanks I will do that. I will also test on my old Z3100 so I will be able to tell if it is Qimage or the printer driver. The problem is not so urgent because we do not require the filenames, just that they are convenient sometimes.

Hi Fred,
I read both articles you posted and tried all the suggestions. In particular I am using the USB connection and in Qimage properties I have set Print Spooler Format to RAW - Large Prints. The problem did not go away and is still as I described above. However, I have now learned what is triggering the problem: It happens only when I check the Info box to write the filename below the print. When I include Info and have several images on the page I always have problems with missing or cut off images whether or not I am using USB and RAW. The filename is printed fine when this happens. If I don't include Info it always works whether or not I use USB and RAW. I did not have this problem until I upgraded my printer and Qimage.

I have used Qimage for years without problems and recently upgraded to v2012.217 and my printer from HP Z3100 to Z3200. My computer has W7 64-bit and 12GB memory. Several times now I have manually positioned several (2-4) images on a 17x96" page (this does not fill the page and the printer is set to not print white space). The thumbs look good on the preview, but, when I print, one of them in the second row does not print or is partly cut off. Interestingly, the filename is printed when this happens. I figure this must be a bug in Qimage, but I can't rule out a bug in the HP printer driver which is up to date. Any ideas?
