1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: "Save As" productivity question on: October 24, 2012, 01:31:21 AM
Terry-M:

Thanks for the quick reply - it seems a standard of yours from what I've read in this forum.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm working exclusively with JPEG format photos for now.

Okay, I've now used the right-click on the page preview and chosen "Covert Images." In the popup that follows I chose "Add to/replace existing filters" and then cancelled the next popup that appears as I don't want anymore filters. Clicking OK then adds a new .jpg photo in the folder with same name and the suffix of "{Q}" or "{Q}{Q}" or "{Q}{Q}{Q}" depending on how many times I've chosen the same photo with or without filters. The {Q}s are actually a nice touch saving even inputting the letter suffix I usually use. This new image also incorporates the filters imbedded right in the photo and so can now be seen using Windows Photo Viewer in which I can toggle back and forth between the original photo and the one with filters included. The only hitch in the flow is getting rid of the "Add to/replace existing filters" popup and that only requires using the mouse or Alt+F4.

All-in-all a rather satisfactory fix for this problem. Thanks for the help.

Please come back and ask when you need to.

As the old saying goes: "Be careful what you ask for (paraphrased)."

The next problem is text on photos but I'll start another thread for that when I've sorted out the information I require.

2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / "Save As" productivity question on: October 23, 2012, 01:52:05 PM
Hello:

I'm new to this program and this forum. My name is Bob.

I have installed Qimage Ultimate Demo preparatory to buying it. I've been using this for the past couple of days and have been through the "Learn by Example" site (a marvellous idea that other software companies could learn from), "Help" within the program itself, this and other forums here and, finally, Googling the world. I still have many unanswered questions; this one involves the "Done" Button as well as the "Save As" function.

In every other Windows program I've ever used the "Save As" function puts the edited file back in the same folder the original file came from. They also put the original file name in the name bar, the text cursor is flashing in the name bar, and sometimes the entire name and file extension is highlighted or just the name is highlighted.

In Ultimate when I hit the "Done" button after applying filters to a photo it takes me to a popup that give me several choices. If I choose the "Associate" section it saves the file in the original folder with its original name, effectively replacing the original photo. I know the filters are placed on the photo, the original is still there, and I can remove the filters anytime in the future; but you can't view the edited photo except through Qimage. If, however, I choose the "Create new images" section it appears I must browse my way to the folder the photo came from. I also must then put in the name I want for the photo.

If I use File>Save As from the menu bar it takes me to the same folder as the "Create new images" section makes me try to use and, again, I have to put in a name.

I'm telling you all this so you can see what my experience is based on and you can the point out the errors of my ways.

Now, is there some way to configure this program so I can get it to do as I stated in paragraph 2 above? The reason I'd like this is, as stated in the subject line, productivity - time is spent finding folders and entering names. My beefing about putting in a name may sound petty but, over the years I've worked out a system in which I add letter suffixes to edited file names so they are together, in order, in their folder. Entering the letter "a" is easier and faster than entering "Algonquin_Park_Chickaree_Lake_27a" when the original name was "Algonquin_Park_Chickaree_Lake_27." There's also less likelihood of typos!

I'm confident someone can help me out here.

Bob
