I need to reply on this one since you both have tried to help. I have just done tests on A4 with uneven borders with no apparent problem with positioning in the Page Editor matching the print to file and Epson print preview. The only comment is the preview page shows the text perceptibly lower which isn't a real problem. Back to the A3+ job of a couple of days ago again and the problem of significant vertical variation persists. Fred, it probably simpler to just run the print preview zoom to make sure I'm happy with the positioning. Terry, I cannot replicate your method of moving the image. When I left click and hold on the blue text dot and press an up or down arrow, the image flashes on & off continually, but nothing shifts. Have tried hovering the pointer with the arrow as well with no result. One thing I have noticed with the A3+ job is that in the Page Editor, when I grab the blue dot and pull down, no change is apparent, the text seems to stay put, until I release the mouse, then the drag result shows. This makes positioning clumsy/frustrating. The image is a 58 Mb tiff. The system has 16G RAM onboard.

Thanks Fred. I think the other similar question was mine re the Image Stamp. You said something similar then. It's not so much a concern about the size of the text which I don't think has changed, it's more the vertical positioning. It drops down lower when print previewed or printed to file, and a touch further when printed. It's not possible to have the page appear larger in the Page Editor is it? That is to occupy more of the screen.

Have just had a battle trying to place text on a border so that it fits the depth of one of the borders. The Page Editor doesn't have the ability to zoom in to see exactly where the text fits, but further to that, where the text appears to be in the Page Editor isn't where it finishes on the print. The print to file and the print preview show the same result, the text is lower than it appears in the Page Editor, but now the print is exiting the front of the printer, I can see the text on the print is slightly lower again. It would be handy to be able to zoom in to see where the precise top and bottom of the text are, and have that replicated on the print. If you zoom into the attached you should see what I'm trying to achieve and the difference in the Page Editor. Am I expecting too much??

John

I spoke to soon. It reverted back to what I originally described. I've just duplicated your result Fred. In future I'll use the eye to judge the correct font size rather than the point size in the settings. Is this the way the Info Stamp has always worked??
Thanks for your efforts in these forums Fred.

I've always used the small UI. I changed to large and the font size looked as it should. Changed back to small to find it also behaving correctly. It has sorted itself out with the UI size back and forth.

Thanks Fred, I've set font size at 10 and the result is so small I have to use a magnifying glass on the print just to see the line of color in the corner. It's unreadably small with magnification. Completely invisible with the naked eye. I have to increase to 28 bold to replicate what I'd estimate to be 10 point bold. Would you do a test in the Page Editor please.

Sorry, I'll start again.
Re the Info Stamp, I've had reason to want the photo date on a few prints and find the font size seems to be a LOT smaller than I expect in the page editor and on prints. Would some please check this.
Thanks,
John

At 1am this morning I realized where I was going wrong. I'm going to keep my stupidity to myself. The Quick Start instructions saved the day for me. I think the volume of instructions had me rattled. I went back to VueScan also. The attached is giving good print & screen match. Exposure is 247. And the Epson Print Preview is a perfect colour match. Color Munki profile print previews are no where near what ends up on the print. I thought the preview wasn't colour managed. I've got a good feeling about PP and me getting along very well from now on.

Just to say thanks for the replies and help, but have got nowhere with this one. The folder is too large to transfer small numbers of files. It seems errors eventually return in whatever copying and rebuilding I attempt. It's only a couple of directories with the issue. I think it's all on this end with Windows, maybe. I have a collection of screenshots of the various errors. I'll learn to live with it and work around it.

Thanks Mike & Terry, that's been a big help, although painful having bought VueScan specifically for this purpose. Another duhhh moment for me with the marking of the corners Mike. Copying your method Terry (only difference is the page setting is greyed out) I seem to be getting random results re the number of X'd patches. Only by setting the brightness -20 in the Canon software was I able to get rid of the Warning and change it to Note, but there's no consistency to it. Would you look at the end of the file name for the brightness setting and the report in the image. Or at -20 have I hit a sweet spot with the brightness?? Going either way causes the Warning number of Xs. Is that possibly how it works?? I notice my histogram is very similar to Terrys, but not as deep. Is the first attachment a file I could carry on in the process with?? Or are there still problems?
Thanks,
John
