1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Unexpected Changes to Safes Printer Settings on: August 04, 2014, 05:51:57 PM
Thanks Mike.

If the driver updated, it did so automatically without my knowledge.  But your suggestion that an update caused my issue is logical.  I'll follow the process you laid out, but will also make a habit to do a quick review of driver settings before each print job.

Thanks again

Thanks, Fred.

I had saved the settings using Qimage's File/Save command and the files show up in the Qimage File/Recall/Printer Setup screen.  I've used this process for 6-7 years on an HP B9180 without experiencing the problem.  Perhaps something quirky with the IPF6400 Driver?

Qi Ultimate 2014.247.  Canon IPF6400 (Driver v 4.62).   Color Management via Photoshop

I did a print run yesterday after several weeks of setting idle.  Noticed colors were off and started diagnosing.  I use Photoshop for color management.  Turned out that all of my saved printer settings files are now setting the printer's color management to "Color" even though they were originally saved as "No Color Management".  Thus, I was double profiling.  I also noticed that some saved files are also bringing up the wrong paper types, paper sizes and ICC Profiles.

I tried some older backed up versions of the Qimage settings files and found the same problems.  So, I think the Qimage settings files are the same, but correspondence between the driver & Qimage appears to have changed.  I've not updated the driver for some time, so that isn't the issue.

I plan to rebuild all of my saved settings files, but would like a hint of what the problem my be before spending the time.  I've used different versions of Qimage for many years and have not had this problem until now.

Thanks

Thanks, Fred!  Migrating now.

Thought I'd looked over the menu items closely & missed this one.  What can I say?  I'm a guy...
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Migrate RAW Cache on: January 06, 2014, 04:14:12 PM
Is there a way to migrate the RAW cache, post-install?  I found 2010 references to this as a possible future feature.  If migration is not possible, I'll try uninstall/reinstall to have the option to specify during the install.

Thanks

Thanks Fred,  I'll follow your instructions until I'm comfortable with Ultimate, then uninstall 2010.210.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Printer Settigs need to be Rebuilt? on: November 29, 2013, 03:17:10 PM
I recently upgraded from Professional 2010.210 to Ultimate 2014.128 on a Win 8 x64 machine to use with a Canon ipf6400.  When I open Ultimate, I get this message.

"The driver for the selected printer in Qimage has been updated.  Since the Qimage saved printer settings may not be valid for the new driver configuration, printer driver settings will revert to Windows Defaults when Qimage starts.

Please also note that any saved printer setups for this printer should be rebuilt from Scratch..."

The last ipf driver update was several months ago.  Not wanting to take the time to rebuild a couple dozen setup files, I'm still using Professional for printing.  Is there a quick fix, or do I really need to rebuild the settings?

Thanks

Notice the bee on the Palmetto in #60 (Just kidding).  Looks warm there as I'm currently experiencing -10 F temps and 2' of snow on the ground.

Just a guess that 60 & 62 were the original pics & 59/61 had clarity & both vibrance bumped up (These may be ACR terms, but they mean modifying midtone contrast & saturation of low-saturated colors).

Nope.  Don't feel like I wasted time as I learned more about Qimage settings, 6400 driver and setting custom papers than I would have otherwise.

FYI, I also found an update to the Media Information File containing data for the Media Configuration Tool that also says it fixes the non-printing problem with CMP.  I suspect these 2 updates will do the trick.

Fred,

Thanks for the suggestion on looking for a new driver.  I've v. 4.60 & Canon has posted 4.62, including the following in their description of changes/fixes.

Modifications from Ver.4.60 to Ver.4.62

"1. Measures have been taken for the following failures:
- When using Matte Photo Paper, an error that printing cannot be executed might occur....."

Looks like you guys can rest easy & I'll install the new driver for a fix.  Will let you know only if it DOESN'T work.

Thanks again.

I'm downloading the "Ultimate" trial & will see if it offers improvements to my ACR/Photoshop workflow.

Thanks again, Fred

Reset Printer Settings - Check
Print Spooler Format to RAW - Check
"Enable Advanced Printing Features" to Off - Check
Print Queue Empty - Check
Manually set Printer Prefs to CMD, Highest, No Color Corrections - Check

But...the printer still spits out the paper without moving the heads.  FYI, I can see the data being spooled & sent to the printer with no error messages.  I also set up a custom paper type based on CMP, hoping to sidestep the issue...without success.  Note that while printer prints with these settings in Photoshop CS6 & Datacolor's Spyder Profiling Program, it fails in both Qimage & Paint Shop Pro...so it's not just a Qimage thing (Good news, Mike...).  So it's likely either a quirk in the driver or printer firmware that PS & Spyder avoids, but Qimage & Paint Shop Pro hit head on.  I don't know if the problem is my driver installation or a systemic issue with this new model of printer.

A driver uninstall/reinstall would help give thumbs up/down on driver installation issues.  At this point however, I think I'll cut my time losses & re-profile Red River Polar Matte using a different media type that prints fine through Qimage...a better workaround than originally proposed.  In my media type tests, several types seemed to work well with this paper.  And, I'll be working towards a solution with a good assurance of success.  As the base if IPF6400's builds among Qimage users, we can ask & figure out if this is generic or just me.

FYI, I've attached a jpg showing all the media types listed in the IPF6400 driver.  It's interesting to note that CMP is included in the "Coated Paper" folder in the print driver & printer firmware, but in the "Art Paper" folder in the Media Configuration Tool.  Gee, thanks again Canon.   Just one more reason to let expressions fly...

Thanks Fred for all your patience & help.

12  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Qimqge Pro Issue with Cannon Matte Photo Paper Type on: February 08, 2013, 12:37:15 AM
Thanks Fred,

Yes, I've tried other images of different sizes with several different ICC profiles, but none printed.  The largest is 8"x4.5".  All tests are on letter-sized paper.  Paper type, size and source are all correct in both the driver & in the printer's control panel.

The Canon Matte Photo Media Type is listed in the 6400's paper reference guide as the one to use with Canon's Matte Photo Paper MP-101 (See link below).  I presume other IPF printers have a media type to use with this Canon paper, but it must be under other names in their drivers.  I find it frustrating, to say the least, to find a correspondence between the driver's media types and Canon papers on the store shelves.  But that's off-topic and my expressions might get me banned from this forum...

http://www.itsupplies.com/Canon/7981A004-Canon-Matte-photo-Paper-85x11-50-sheets-7981A004

I've printed to file as you suggested, using the CMP media type and the ICC profile, no color correction & highest quality.  The resulting .jpg looks OK, so the test image prints to file with the CMP Media Type, but not to the printer.

Thanks for the suggestion, Fred.

Unfortunately, changing the setting from the previous EMF to RAW didn't do the trick.  Still no print.
14  Mike's Software / Qimage / Qimqge Pro Issue with Cannon Matte Photo Paper Type on: February 07, 2013, 03:01:21 PM
Qimage Professional 210.210
OS Windows 8
Printer Canon IPF6400

I've used Qimage without a hitch for years on an HP printer.  I'm currently profiling papers on a new IPF6400 and have run into a problem printing small test images (~4"x8") using the Canon Matte Photo (CMP) Media Type.  The problem is that Qimage sends the print to the queue, but the printer spits out the paper without printing.

Here are the result of some tests.

1.  Printing on the CMP Media Type fails through Qimge using different images and ICC profiles (Including a stock Canon Profile).

2.  The image prints through Photoshop's Canon Plug-in with the CMP that fails in Qimage (Same Driver Settings).  Datacolor's Spyder also printed profile targets using CMP.

3.  The image prints through Qimage if I select other Canon Media Types.  I've tried other Canon coated paper types, "Special's", and art paper media types with no problems.

I don't know if there is a Qimage setting that would resolve this issue or if there is a basic incompatibility between Qimage and CMP.  For me, the workaround appears to be printing through PS when I need to use this media type in the IPF6400.

Thanks
