1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: HPZ3200PS Sanity Check Please! on: June 16, 2022, 10:52:36 AM
Thanks for the reply Ernst, I never did get to the bottom of it but I have got used to the workflow described and it is working well enough: PS3 driver for matt papers; V4 PCL3 for anything that requires GE. Fortunately the PS3 driver never triggers the GE and I very seldom want GE full coverage so I have not had to touch the GE setting on the printer control panel. Using PU 1.17.03 like you, that seems to work ok although I cross my fingers whenever I need to sync or manage presets as it went through a phase of not allowing that (option greyed out). I did convince myself that the communication problem is Windows 10 related - can't remember for sure but I think I discovered that everything worked properly via an old XP machine, including Advanced Profiling Solution.

Haven't the time or inclination to wrestle with the communication issue any more for now but I dare say it will come back to bite me sooner or later.

William.

PS: By the way, this issue is not peculiar to Qimage, I get the same problem if I try to print from PS, Illustrator or anything else.
2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / HPZ3200PS Sanity Check Please! on: April 29, 2022, 09:02:03 AM
I am trying to claw my way back to normality after a series of hardware and software disasters. Hardware is fixed I think (rebuilt pc with fresh new install of Win10, HPZ3200PS with new cloned HDD) but software is still problematic. Since updating firmware and drivers (which predated the printer hdd failure) I have had niggly problems with the printer, to whit:

1. None of the drivers (V4 PCL3, PS, and GL) seem to have full communication with the printer so paper type and size isn't communicated - screen grab attached.
2. Gloss enhancer doesn't work at all with the PS driver and only on or off with the V4 driver - no Econo mode.
3. I'm currently printing a job on gloss stock so I need the GE so I'm stuck with the V4 driver but I loath the interface and it regularly goes wrong when accessed through QU and defaults to a skeleton windows interface so I have to reset printer settings to restore it.

So I am currently hobbling along with the following versions:
Firmware: TR12-RB_16.0.0.1
PS3 Driver: Version:61.194.11905.50 (Release date:Mar 27, 2020) - No GE with this one
V4 PCL3 Driver: Version:61.2201.0.100 (Release date:Apr 5, 2022) - GE only on or of as set through printer front panel ie no choice of full page or econo mode through driver

If anyone is successfully using the same basic set up as me - Win10, QU, Z3200Ps - I'd love to know because I'm starting to feel as though I'm flogging a dead horse.

Thanks, William.
3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Can't Get Page To Print Landscape On Roll - z3200 on: July 08, 2019, 01:23:20 PM
Thanks Fred, familiar with that button but it only affects the orientation of the image in the page. I'm talking about the orientation of the page on the roll.

4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Can't Get Page To Print Landscape On Roll - z3200 on: July 08, 2019, 12:21:00 PM
Qimage seems to have changed behaviour with respect to print rotation on rolls. Whatever I do it will always make the printer put the short dimension of the sheet across the roll even if the sheet size would fit comfortably turned through 90 degrees. For example a 20" x 30" print would fit happily across the width of a 36" roll but nowadays it always prints short side across the width. Qimage also seems to overcome the Autorotate function in the z3200 driver. Is there a new checkbox somewhere that locks the orientation of the page?

5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Photo Mat - Strange Behaviour With Near Square Image on: December 15, 2018, 06:38:02 PM
Playing with my new favourite feature again today and ran into a strange problem. With an almost square image the mat was rotating 90 deg anticlockwise. I tried every setting I could think of to overcome this without success- at one point the mat seemed to decide it wanted to rotate the print. I wondered if the fact that the print was almost but not quite square was the cause and discovered that the problem only happened with an image slightly taller than it is wide. So on an image 7671x7677 it rotates 90 degrees but works fine on an image 7667x7677 pixels. It also works fine on 7677x7671 so it seems it just doesn't like very slightly portrait images. It is fine if the image is perfectly square.

Success, thanks Fred.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / How Can I Save Photo Mat Set Up? on: December 13, 2018, 04:51:48 PM
I print on roll paper on an HPZ3200 and prints almost always need trimming to size. If it is a one off I drop the print on any oversize page size and use "Mark Corners" in Qimage and "Remove Top/Bottom Blank Area" feature in the print driver, then trim all four sides. For sizes I use regularly, eg 700x500mm, I have a custom page size 24"x700mm. I centre the image on the page and the printer cuts to length leaving just two sides to cut. I prepare the image in PS by adding white space top and bottom to make up to 500mm then add mm of black to give a cutting guide for the other two sides, screen grab attached to illustrate. Today I discovered the Photo Mats feature which could be very useful as I could add the top and bottom on the fly, also I very often print with different borders top and bottom, but I can't find any way to save a Photo Mats set up and apply to different images. Is there a way?

Thanks,  William.
8  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Intermittent Print Corruption Problem v2016.137 on: August 16, 2016, 03:35:36 PM
Thanks Mike, yes the latest version seems to work fine on my Win10 machine so that is fine for the time being, but the problem persists on the XP machine which is the one I specifically use for printing. I will try uninstalling/reinstalling. Regarding the job log, this is a really important part of Qimage for me, can the same log be shared between two PCs?

9  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Intermittent Print Corruption Problem v2016.137 on: August 16, 2016, 11:31:02 AM
I have installed the latest version on my more up to date computer, Win10 64bit, and the first print out is fine. Any reason to suspect it is a Qimage/XP problem? Also, is it possible to share a job log folder between two PCs by putting it on an NAS? Sorry if that is a bit of an old chestnut.

Thanks Fred, spent the money, installed the upgrade but no joy. The problem remains.

11  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Intermittent Print Corruption Problem v2016.137 on: August 15, 2016, 04:13:35 PM
I am a long time Qimage user, currently on v2016.137 driving a z3200ps. PC is running XP Pro 32bit.

For the past 18 months or so I have had an intermittent problem with prints being spoiled by random stripes or squares of lighter density. This has typically been confined to dark images, especially dark green, and has been rare enough that I have just resorted to Photoshop to print the problem images but lately it is more common and can appear on any image. I have attached a couple of examples from today's work.

I don't think the files themselves are corrupted - they always print fine from PS.
Happens with large and small files.
The problem appears randomly - an image that printed fine on Friday is misbehaving today.
The problem can occur on any paper/profile combination.
I have the spooler set to "Raw Large"
Changing the print quality doesn't make a difference.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated,

William Chitham.
