1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Easiest way to print variable sets of small prints? on: October 09, 2010, 01:01:00 PM

wrt roll paper sizing, I think I would set it in the driver to a long length, arrange images, then go back to driver and set the length determined by qi.

Ray,

I think the point Joost is trying to get across which is one I come across using my HP Designjet 130 is if you set the page length long then use optimal spaced then Qimage fills the page negating the effect of the trim unsed paper setting in the driver as the gaps between the images expand to fill the page.

I would like to be able to load a selection of images with borders then for example specify a 10mm gap between images+borders then print optimally spaced this would mean I could set the paper length long then the driver would handle the top and bottom white space with the remove top/bottom blank areas of the driver. Perhaps a preference setting for the optimally spaced setting this could then also include Joost's other request re sorting.

Could we therefore have an optimally spaced setting with user definable gaps and the option to retain or discard sorting for roll fed printers. I am assuming in this that other large format roll fed printers can remove top and bottom unused space from prints.

Terry,
You are the house expert on measurement systems.
If I remember right, isn't the Imperial measurement used for measuring Whiskey?

Fred,

Both Whiskey and Whisky come in 25ml or sometimes 35ml shots from a 70cl bottle here in the UK They used to be 1/6th of a gill 1/3rd of a gill and bottles.  Smiley

Terry, I enjoyed your images and I too have just started dabbling with Macro having picked up a 150mm (approx 6" Fred Smiley ) sigma f2.8 macro from E-bay.

I have now tried TTS on some of my images and they get picked out very nicely when using sharpen all excepted selected on the background.

The 3 images I'm hopefully attaching have used radius 3 @ 300% and have been taken with a Canon 5DII and the aformentioned Sigma.

The Ferns are F3.5 1/250s ISO 100
The Butterfly F16 1/166s ISO400
The Spiders (sorry Fred) F18.2 1/64s ISO 400

3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: v2010.110 issues/comments- White Balance on: August 20, 2010, 07:29:28 PM
Mike,

Not sure if this is related to 2010.110 or may be affecting earilier versions. Yesterday I took several images at Dawlish Airshow using a Canon 7D in Raw and Mraw (reduced size raw files) if I adjust the images in QU they turn Pink or green. If I remove the or turn them down a bit filters the images will return to normal.

Sometimes I can adjust white balance in refine raw exposure and the change seeems okay so I save it only for the thumnail to rebuild in pink or green!

It can be as simple as applying a default global filter which just adds a little fill and unsharp other times I just open the refine raw exposure after adding an item to the queue.

Other times I can just open the refine raw exposure window and clear the custom white balance which I have not touched and the image changes colour.

I can see the exposure on these images is difficult which is why I'm trying to correct them but these sudden dramatic shifts are proving a major problem.

It seems to be a conflict between the refine raw exposure and the full page editor. Am I doing something wrong here?

I'm attaching some resized screen snips. I'm using win 7 64 Bit on an I7 powered motherboard with 12GB ram 2 geforce 8800 graphics cards. The monitor is calibrated with coloreyes and a dtp-94.

Just been and had a look at the Qimage profiles on the website and it says they are only for Qimage studio.

http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/raw.htm

Am I correct in assuming they will also work correctly with Qimage Ultimate and it is just the page hasn't been updated yet to reflect this?

I don't think I would agree with this; I may use several different pint crops for the same image. Eg. I may print some at 4x6 or one at 10x8 and so on.
Qimage remembers the last crop yo used for a particular image & print size, that is a significant feature. That is why: -

Terry,

Yes i'm aware of the thinking behind PRINT and IMAGE edits.

But if you are using different crops for different prints of the same image you WOULDN'T have apply this crop to all copies of the print selected as they would then be all the same.

I effect I would like the thumbnail to show the last print version only if the apply this crop to all copies of the print is selected.

If apply this crop to all copies of the print is not selected as would be the csae that you would like different crops of the same image then the thumb would show the original image plus any edits made in the editor.

Mike,

If  I Refine Raw Exposure in QU the thumbnail is updated to show the current state of the edit.

If I double click an image an apply a crop the thumbnail is updated to show the current sate of the Edit.

If I crop an image in the Full Page Editor the Thumbnail is NOT updated to show the current state of the Edit.

ISTR that when the full pge editor was introduced in Qimage this was done deliberately so the full pge aeditor is used for more temporary crops than the edit window.

Now I think it would be better that if the apply crop to all copies of this print tick box is selected that the crop (FPE) is shown in the thumbnail but if the tick box is not selected the crop is not shown.

I noticed this when revisiting a folder full of images and looking at a thumb deciding the image would look better cropped went to edit it and found I'd already applied a crop in the FPE.

Hope I've explained this OK!

Mark

Mike,

Delete not working.

Mike I have downloaded a card full of images with Downloader pro.

Opened all the created folders and let QU build thumbnails.

Decided to delete an OOF image.

Selected OOF image.

click delete.

received confirmation message - clicked yes.

Image is NOT deleted.

Just had a thought - I have downloader pro set to write protect downoaded files - the image is read only.

Can you enable QU to delete protected images with appropriate dialogs of course.

8  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: List Index out of Bounds on: July 26, 2010, 06:55:30 PM
Wow, I found it and fixed it but this is a strange one.  To get it to happen, you have to:

(1) Have the full page editor open but small enough so you can see some of the main window behind it.

(2) Drag the zoom lever on the cropping tool.

(3) Just as you release the zoom lever, you have to move your mouse cursor quickly off the page editor and over the thumbnails, and then out of the thumbnails before the crop can redraw on the page editor window.  Or... move the zoom lever and before releasing the mouse while you are moving the zoom lever, move your mouse out of the full page editor window onto the preview page on the main window in the background and THEN release the mouse.

Obscure things like that are difficult to find by beta testers and that's the type of thing that makes it through the debugging process.

Mike

Mike,

I don't have to do any of those things.

I just add the image to the queue.

double click below it.

The FPE opens.

I just move the mouse over the zoom slider and get the error - not even necessary to click.

Clicking on high precision crop or test strip or cancel crop also gives the error.

I normally have the FPE at less than full screen as it doesn't fill the monitor anyway but I tried it with the monitor dragged to full size at it makes no difference.

Additional Info.

I have dual Dell 24" monitors.

Both monitors are at 1920x1200 using Geoforce 8800 graphics cards (2) driver 196.21

QU opens on monitor 2. FPE opens on monitor 1.

I use a dual monitor management utility called ultramon which adds some extra contols to windows to move and resize them. (just noticed it doesn't add them to QU or the FPE or Qimage.
I also use a utility called Desktop rover which is a sort of virtual KVM (allows me to use my desktop mouse and keyboard with my laptop and cut and paste from the laptop to the desktop.
9  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / List Iindex out of Bounds on: July 26, 2010, 10:54:10 AM
Hi,

I'm a long term qimage user now trying ultimate.

Windows 7 64 bit with 6gb memory several terabytes of disk storage.m,rogers

If I add an image to the queue then click to open the full page editor then attempt to zoom the image to crop it I get the list index out of bounds error as attached.

The image is set to print full page borderless A4 to a canon MP610 MFP.

The original is a Cannon 50D raw image.

Easily repeatable the error message will eventually clear to allow cropping by random clicking.

Mark
