For any one who might be interested.

I have ClipCache Pro 3.8.0  ---    https://www.xrayz.co.uk/   installed

in which I keep a dedicated folder - "Qimage" - giving a direct quick link to all the Qimage videos.

So darn quiet around here. Missing Fred.

Had to print some stuff recently. Brought up Qimage and printed it. Great results and no drama. Just works.

I referred to one of Fred's videos a few days back.  I was a sad moment. But video was the usual master of clarity.  Along with Mikes the best on the net.  I used to get Fred's humour emails as well, all now sadly missed.

Very sad news.  I feel I have lost a true friend who was always there to assist with any problem with humour and understanding.

At the end of May I had a new knee fitted and on return feared the worst when Fred was missing from the forum.  Terry Mann kept informed.

His videos were a master of clarity and humour and along with Mikes the best on the net.

He will be sorely missed

awesome.

Very good video - QI videos always the best. I wish other video presenters would take note.

Fred mentioned this post this morning and I realized I didn't reply.  I don't use any of those swiss army knife tools so I had to look it up and then forgot to post here afterward.  It turns out tools like Faststone and Irfanview do decode the real raws now.  I believe there was a time (perhaps years ago early on) that they just "cheated" and extracted the embedded JPEG but I think all of them now have real raw support.

Mike,
Do you think Jeff is a traitor?
Fred

Hello Both and thanks for replies.  I am just back on line after a 14day BB Failure.

No Fred, I am not a traitor.  My question was Camera club related.  They consider Faststone processes Raws
I think it uses or did use the embedded jpeg.

In fact I have just done a test and stripped a 13meg .orf and get two images in Faststone an .orf at 7.68 meg and a jpg at 7.68 meg and no difference on screen.

Now back to catching up on a 14 day history.

Hello all you experts.

Can I have a confirmation that the Faststone image viewer when 'opening' a Raw file is actually using the embedded jpeg.

Club members are insisting it is editing the actual raw data.

Hopefully Fred gets his power back because he doesn't know what to do without trying to beat me to every forum post.  And now I actually have to answer new posts because when I open them, he hasn't already answered them all before I woke up.  Cheesy

TTTHHHHHH to you.
Got power back at 6:35 pm today, Sunday.  I can tell Mike missed me.
Now I have to decide what stuff from freezer and fridge I need to get rid of.
Yeah! Mike brought me a cooler with ice, but as expected, his ice melted already.
Thanks for caring all.
Fred

Glad you are OK

You cannot keep us old ones down

Hello Fred

Sorry you have lost Marilyn and have joined us sorry lot in widower status.

Good to know Qimage forum is looking over you.

Hang on tight in the Hurricane, I live in the middle of a field and sometimes get 70 mph gusts, god knows what would happen if I got a hurricane blast.

Keep us posted

Don't blame me for being conscientious about Qimage. (I can even spell conscientious).
Some people arrive at their office late; then their secretary brings them the morning latte and a breakfast burrito. The guy in his mail room has put copies on his desk which he peruses.  He does have them color coded as Urgent, Important, WTF, and too stupid to read.
It's closing in on 10 am at this point.
Oh well
Fred

For some of us the Qimage Forum is like a drug.  On waking up we do are daily covid test (work that out ) and then out get out drug shot.

closing now at 07.44 BST

Hello Mike

I watched it, very impressive and professional.

I have not experienced stream yard before, is it zoom with a supercharger?

I am interested from a particular point of view, our camera club is still suffering from Covid and members do not now attend the regular meetings.

Probably meetings such as this one could be of interest.

Many thanks for last night.

I second that, It's a lot to take in.  Mike's videos are amongst the best given in clear speech and at a pace that allows old brains to keep up without too much backing up and muttering what did he say?

Hello

Many thanks to all, I have finally got it.

I used to use the function regularly.

I want to put a club member right on raw/embedded jpeg/  and raw plus jpeg etc.

The blind leading the blind.

No body believes me that Qimage will do all you want.

Hello

Can anybody point me to the "strip out jpegs" function

I am sure I have done this some years ago but cannot find it now.
