I have had the LX3 for some time now and find myself grabbing it about 50% of the time - especially when I don't want to take the 40D, I shoot a lot of wide angle and the quality is remarkable in raw. I also have played with the picture modes, something I have never done before and dfind some of them very helpful. Nice camera at a good price.

Having just gotten a G1, I personally like the electronic viewfinder.  Honestly, it isn't lag free and it's a bit noisy in low light, but I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.  I'll go over more of that in my June article, but my general impression is that the electronic viewfinder on the G1 is very capable.  Outdoors or in very bright light, I really don't even notice the difference from a traditional optical viewfinder.  Indoors in even the most subdued lighting, it still looks reasonable: even though noise starts to show up, it doesn't detract from what you are doing unless you specifically look for it and lag at that point is, again, noticeable but not distracting.  Now, if you point it under a desk in the shadows, it gets really laggy and noisy but to be honest, if you aren't shooting a moving object it does better than my other dSLR's because while it is noisy and laggy, it is much brighter!  You can actually see details on the objects even better than the naked eye.  So the electronic viewfinder may have fewer drawbacks than you thought, or at least far more benefits than you had realized until you start using it.  Things like having a real time histogram display in the viewfinder and ability to scroll through and use all the camera menus through the viewfinder are just icing on the cake.
