Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: New Computer

Hi Jason, I had a new PC a few months ago so my processsing of RAW etc would be faster abs had to do the same thing. From the QU menu on the old PC, click Utilities and then Explore Qimage Application Data you will see where all templates etc are stored. It normally is:- C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\ddisoftware. Copy the folder to the new PC in the same location and that should do it for you.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Qimage Showing Back Line

See attached images for an example of some I did recently. Image (with a faded effect created with the Qimage editor, not a border) has a fine border and the a 10mm border outside that. When the print was mounted, the mount aperture was based on the size including the borders. This was to give white space between the actual image and the mount. I calculate mount aperture sizes using a spreadsheet and this method ensure I get what I want easily. Terry

Hi sync007 Re. I cropped it in Affinity Photo and see image I attached earlier it added space all around the checker board type stuff then I opened it up in qimage ... Why do this in Affinity? Qimage has all the facilities for cropping and borders, either as an image feature, and, better for you a print feature. This means the original image is unchanges and can be used again with different crops and/or borders etc. Terry

Thanks Fred & Mike. All is ok now. I restarted Qimage by using the 'safe' option (forgotten the actia term) whic showed when the error messsage appeared. I very relieved as it's now my photographic club competition season so there'll a number prints to do over the next few weeks. Three A3 prints done already and mounted. Terry

Hello Fred, long time no see! Windows 11, mainly because that's the latest. However I do prefer the W10 interface. It's taking a little while to get used to W11 and not having certain features. Terry

Thanks for checking. I have some Canon 600D images of about the same size - 24MB. 8 took 12 seconds on my new PC. My processor is a Intel® Core™ i7-12700 Processor 25M Cache, up to 4.90 GHz. 12 Cores ... for the tech nerds information ;-)

Thanks Mike. I assume they were images without any filter. I just did the same test, 8 images, no filters, it took 20secs, faster than yours! So it looks like my new PC is OK. Relieved as it cost £1500! My local PC shop were very helpful, they built it; I've know the guys there a long time.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / RAW Processing Speed
|
on: September 09, 2022, 02:10:29 PM

For some time now I've been living with slow processing speeds for RAW images on my 10yr old + PC. I do do most of my processing with QU, using the Refining RAW feature and then using the Image Editor to complete the process. Thus each image has both a RAW Refinement and a Filter associated with it. I now have purchased a tailor-made PC with M.2 memory (16Gb, 20 threads) and drives throughout and with the latest version of an i7 processor. I could have gone for an i9 (I think that's right) but that put the cost up too much. With the old PC, for 8 images with refine and filters, 2.75 minutes to rebuild the thumbs. The new PC takes 0.53 minutes, about 5x faster. The new PC with Auto multi threading took 70 seconds to rebuild the thumbs of 20 images. They were all from a Canon 80D, about 32MB each.
I'd welcome comments and comparisons for other QU users - and Mike too please.

It is for RAW-files Select the raw and click right mouse button. Select "Extract Embedded Images from raw" You need to have the image in the Queue to do this. See screen shot below. Terry
