91  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Have problems using "Send to Qimage" in Windows 10 on: August 25, 2019, 04:18:17 PM
Hi Steve,

How do I change the "Send to" behavior of Qimage?
What you are seeing when you use send to is the thumbnail in it's folder.
To change the Send too behavior with QU use the Edit menu-Preferences-When Images are Dropped into QU - choose Add to Queue.
See attached screen shot and note where the dot is.
I'm surprised you are getting two different behaviors with Send to and Dropping the image onto the page.
Try what I suggest and let us know how you get on.

Raw is law - just did a wedding, all shot in NEF Raw.
Hoping to be able to print HEIC file format pics soon
Whether using jpeg or HEIC you are throwing away a lot of image data by converting to those formats.Editing with less data available is not normally good practice for quality images.

Many of us who use QU for printing, print from the raw file in QU. The raw refine feature in QU is unusual but clever and produces excellent results. The image editor has good features too, like deep focus (no artifacts) sharpening so further improvements can be made there.
Printing from the raw file is the better HD spacer saver as there is no need to create extra images.

Hi,

To make the JPEG this is what I've been doing so far in Qimage. I start with File > Print to File.
My understanding is Print to file does not copy the exif date because P2F can be used for multiple images and the process does not involve exif data.
You could use Exif Tool GUI to copy exif data from the original images:

the old printer should not have been deleted
You could re-install the old printer driver, you don't actually need it physically connected.

Hi George[
quote]When I tweak an image with the full page editor, where are those settings stored?[/quote]
I assume you mean by double clicking to open the IMAGE editor.
Those files are stored in the same folder as the image and are .flt (filter) files.

Most PDF readers have an export feature which allows you export as an image, I use Tracker Software PDF-XChange Editor. There's no colour managent involved though.

Hi,
Following on from Fred's post ...

I have a profiled monitor using Xrite i1 Display.  My print looks good on my monitor.  The print is a little darker when printed.
First let me say, the monitor should look like the print, not the other way round.
If a print is dark compared to the monitor then the monitor is too bright. Your i1 Display software has an "advanced" mode that allows you set set a brightness value in CD/Msq. A value of 120 is a good starting point. The software then gets you to set the brightness before going on to calibrate and produce a monitor profile.
You may need to make several test prints before you get the brightness right.

I think I now need to re-profile all my papers with the correct settings just to keep everything neat and tidy
I would agree. Glad to have been of help.

Hi ATB,
It's possible you have not got Colour Management set up correctly in your driver. Access this from the QU Properties button on the Printers and Settings tab.I'm not sure of the Canon terminology but make sure it's set for No Color Adjustment equivalent. Not ICM.

You'll need to thinks about a lens (or 2)

A Canon 18-55mm is pretty standard and cheap.
I have a Canon 15-85mm which is very good and a useful zoom range.
Another popular lens is the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens (Nano).
If you want top quality lenses then the L series are superb but expensive. I have a 70-300 f4-f5.6 I bought second hand and you can really see the difference.

Yes, I'd recommend the 80D.
Lots of photos here:https://www.flickr.com/photos/terry-m_flickrphotos/albums
All in the last year are 80D; prior to that a 600D.

Raw refine: Improved the (multiple) refine feature to include the warm-cool slider setting when copying white balance parameters to multiple raw photos.
Out of interest I took some test shots which included a grey card, made copies of them and adjusted the WB using Spot Dropper on one set and the Slider on the other set.
Copying from one image to the remainder in each set worked perfectly.
However setting the WB with the slider gave a slightly different result from using the dropper, rather than the RGB values being equal, The G value was up to 5% higher when the slider was used. This may not be significant but could it create a slight green cast which would be noticeable in some situations?

I think Eizo has a menu on the monitor itself where you can set gamma.
I've just checked  my Eizo menus, there's nothing there for gamma. It's probably because it's disabled when the monitor is hardware calibrated to set parameters in the software (ColorNavigator6).
