Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Floating Text: Alignment with guide lines to the ruler?
|
on: December 08, 2010, 11:14:18 AM
|
I'm aware of the aligning option of floating text (left, right, center) which works fine. On the screenshot the text is centered horizontal, but to align the text vertical in the weighted border (cutout frame) I can only drag the text up and down without any reference to the ruler at the left side of the editor. Would it be possible to add something like a guide line in Photoshop. When I click on the text icon to drag the text there should be a horizontal/vertical guide line for precise alignment of the floating text.
Maybe there is another workaround, or would it be possible to do the alignment of the text in the bigger window of the image editor?

Mike's Software / Qimage Studio Edition (archived) / Re: Feature request: High precision sizing/positioning in metric mode (0.1mm)

I gave that some thought when I was working on it for Ultimate but it's not in the plans for Lite/Pro/Studio right now. The problem is that the change required a lot of small changes all over the UI which itself has been changed quite a bit in Ultimate.
Thanks for your reply, Mike. That's understandable. Maybe it's easier to strip the RAW module from Qimage Ultimate to offer a Qimage Ultimate Print version... Excuse me, I better should hold my fingers away from the keyboard...!

Looking at the features what I want in my Qimage Studio Edition from the features of Qimage Ultimate is: - New streamlined user interface - Tone targeted sharpening: selective sharpening - High precision sizing/positioning in metric mode (0.1mm)
However, I will try Qimage Ultimate after the holidays, but I don't need a new RAW converter, I want just these 3 features above from Qimage Ultimate. An annual subscription edition of Qimage Studio with the "ultimate printing updates" wouldn't be a bad thing, just my 2 cents to this thread.

Terry got exactly the point. I (= Qimage Studio user) would like to update/upgrade to Qimage Ultimate for the printing workflow. My complete raw & archive workflow is locked in Lightroom (which works great).

No discount for existing long time Qimage users. I can understand it but I'm not happy with this statement. But what about splitting Qimage Ultimate in two editions, one version without raw features, and the other version with raw enabled? Working with raw files and metadata to retrieve images in Lightroom for me (and probably many other users) it is useless to add another raw converter. With Lightroom 3 we got lens profiles, I use the X-Rite Colorchecker Passport to create camera profiles for various light situations and settings. My output is a 16 bit tiff file that will be refined with Silver Efex or Viveza from Nik Software in Photoshop. And at the same time Lightroom is THE management tool for my image archive. Using Qimage Ultimate as a raw converter I would split another time the archive management from the raw workflow - a no go for me. So, what about a Qimage Ultimate Print edition without raw features?

Thanks Ray. I will probably convert to DNG (with an embedded X3F raw file) to use custom profiles made with Colorchecker Passport in Lightroom. This will be my first and last Sigma camera until they open their crippled raw or switch to DNG like Leica, Sinar and others.

Oh, a DP2 corner in the forum. We've got a used DP2 two days ago after sorting out a bunch of P&S cameras. Reidreviews has a very good review with image examples from the Panasonic GF1, the Sigma DP2 and the Leica X1. So our choice was a used DP2 for 350 € and not the Leica X1 for 1500 €. If it helps, MonoVeon from KeithM is a monochrome Foveon X3F Convertor for Sigma, it can be found at http://www.keithmathome.co.uk/monoveon.html Another software page is from Arvo Jägel (maybe for Mike Chaney) is at http://www.stv.ee/~donq/dcraw.htm - but DP1/DP1s/DP2 cameras are not (yet) supported. Right now I used Sigma Photo Pro 4 for conversions to monochrome images. The real candy in this software is the X3 Fill Light feature, see http://www.foveon.com/article.php?a=73
