Perfect! Thanks, Mike, That is exactly what I was looking for. It’s great to see the support is as good as always!

Hello! I was a Qimage user for many years but when Qimage One came out, I switched to that since I use a Mac. But I keep my QU license current and use that with VmWare Fusion when I need QU's advanced features. But I can't figure out how to do what I want to do. I would like to be able to tell QU to print x images across and x images down, and to specify the gap between prints, and also to tell it to leave margins of a specific size. Is that possible? I do see the option to say how many prints in each row and column, and I see how to edit the margins under preferences, but how do I also tell it how much space between prints?  Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I could not find the answer by searching the forum.
3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Good to be back! on: February 15, 2022, 04:55:55 PM
Hello! I started using Qimage back in 2000 and used it for many years until around 2018 when Qimage One was released. Since I use a Mac that meant I no longer needed Parallels to run Qimage. Q1 is great for just printing. But I recently have needed to run another Windows only app, so I installed Vmware Fusion Player to again run Windows on my Mac. I thought I’d check out Qimage Ultimate again. Wow! Mike is just as responsive as he always was. I’m having fun discovering new features as well as old ones that I may have forgotten about. I print a lot of cards and the ability to save a layout/print template with a logo and a space for the image is really great! That alone is well worth the price of the lifetime subscription upgrade for me. I’ll continue to use Q1 when I am just making prints but having the power of QU when I need it is awesome!

Don’t let the simplicity of Q1 fool you. The quality of the prints from Qimage Ultimate and Qimage One are second to none. They have the best printing output of anything out there. QU has great raw processing, the ability to add edits to other formats without changing the original image, and way too many features to list. But for printing only on a mac, you can’t beat Q1! My workflow became WAY simpler now!

Yes, I export tiffs from Affinity Photo and print in Qimage One. I emailed Q1 support about being able to hand off from AF to Q1 (like Lightroom and Photoshop do) and Andrew said they looked into it but there does not seem to be a way. He has reached out to Serif (publisher of Affinity Photo) but has not heard back yet. I do most of my raw developing in Lightroom and use AF for the images that need work that can't be done in LR. Having my whole workflow on the mac instead of having to run Windows just to use Qimage Ultimate for printing is fantastic! And the support for Q1 is really great.
6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Re: Support for Affinity Photo .afphoto files on: February 20, 2018, 03:07:36 PM
I think that if users of other raw software asked Mike to support their custom files, it would be an impossible job.
Terry
Hmm, maybe not impossible for Mike, although he decides what direction to go Smiley. I remember before Qimage supported raw files and the same sentiment was there...
It would be nice to hand off from Affinity Photo to Qimage but really not a huge deal. I agree that Qimage's raw processor is better than Affinity Photo's but personally, I prefer Lightroom. I now hand off from LR to Qimage One (mac) unless the image needs work that must be done with layers. Then it goes to Affinity Photo and printed with Q1. Works for me.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Goodbye, Qimage Ultimate... on: February 20, 2018, 12:59:35 AM
Before I hear a collective gasp, let me explain. I purchased Qimage back in July, 2000. I’ve upgraded to Pro, Studio, Ultimate, and have paid my renewal fee each year. I didn’t need the editing features but I wanted to support development and $20/year is very reasonable. I think it is, hands down, the BEST way to print. When I switched from a Windows pc to a mac, I purchased Parallels so that I could continue to print with QU. However, I have never really used the editing features, prefering to use Lightroom, Photoshop, and recently Affinity Photo for my editing, although having to export from Lightroom and open in QU under windows was a little tedious, (but worth the time!). So I was very pleasantly surprised to learn about Qimage One, which is available for both Windows and Mac platforms. Being able to edit in my preferred app and hand off directly to Q1 is WONDERFUL!!! Since Mike is behind it I knew that it would produce great prints easily. I tried the demo for a few hours and purchased it. I expect that new features will be added regularly, although as it is it suits me just fine! For now, I’ll keep Ultimate installed but I suspect that I won’t be firing up Windows very often. Thanks Mike and Andrew!! Well done.

What I am trying to accomplish is not buying into an end of life product.
I'm pretty sure QU is unlikely to be dying soon.

Let me mention some advantages of using QU:
Deep focus sharpening for raw image processing and editing as well as printing.

Terry - Q1 does have deep focus sharpening. Not sure if the 1st version did, but it does now!

What I was suggesting is that you copy the catalog from the external drive that is shared with the Mac onto a drive that is local to the Parallels/Windows installation, thereby copying it from that "network" drive onto the same drive as the LR installation on Windows is using.  Then run the Windows LR version after the catalog is copied.

Yes, that would work. I just prefer to work on the Mac version. It would be too cumbersome to try to keep the 2 versions in sync. It's really not a big deal to continue to export the files and then print them with QU. Thanks again.

Thanks, Mike. The Windows installation in Parallels apparently sees any external drive shared with the Mac as a network drive so the LR catalog cannot reside there. I'll take a look at that article but I'll probably just keep doing what I've been doing for several years. Being able to use the plugins would be nice but no biggie if I can't.

John,

I don't have an installation here where I have both (Mac/Windows) on one machine.  But in thinking about it, there must be a way to copy the LR database from your Mac partition to the Windows partition so that you can access the same catalog.  In searching, I found this page.  Maybe it will be of assistance:

I was super excited to see the plugins announcement. But I quickly realized it won't help because I run QU on a Mac using Parallels (Qimage was the only reason that I bought Parallels!). Since my Lightroom license lets me install it also on a Win machine, I installed it in the Windows partition. But, strangely enough, the LR catalog (database, not the images) cannot be accessed from a network drive, and Parallels/Windows considers the Mac partition to be a network drive, I can run LR under Windows but cannot open the LR database. Oh well, I guess I'll continue to do what I have done for years - edit in LR/PS, and export images that I want to print. Then run QU to print.

I'm sure I'm not the only Mac user that keeps hoping for a Mac version of Qimage Ultimate, but I know that's not going to happen!
12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: QU under Mac Parallels color management on: September 20, 2013, 01:16:16 PM
Linda,

Thanks! I also do most of my editing in Lightroom and my QU prints match LR when I select the proper paper profile in QU. Also, when I just upgraded to Parallels 9 the problem with QU stating that my monitor profile was not a valid monitor profile went away. So all is well!

Thanks also to Peter for taking the time to reply and confirm what Linda said.

13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / QU under Mac Parallels color management on: September 12, 2013, 03:23:49 PM
I switched to a Mac but I purchased Parallels just so that I could continue to use Qimage. I just upgraded to version 2014.116, although I'm not sure when this problem began. When I go to Preferences->Color Management, it tells me that my monitor profile is not a monitor profile. I copied the current profile from the Mac ColorSync folder to c:\windows\system32\spool\drovers\color but QU still says it's not a monitor profile. Then I clicked in the Prtr ICC box under Job Properties and clicked "choose new profile" but when I click on the 3 dots to select a profile, the browse box opens up behind the existing window and I cannot move it or bring it to the front to select the proper profile.  ANyone else running QU under Parallels experiencing these color management issues? Any suggestions?

I would REALLY miss QU if I am no longer able to use it  Cry

Thanks, Terry! Perfect. When I do want to print directly from the raw files I'll just turn that back on. I appreciate your taking the time to reply!

15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: filter by file type? on: July 23, 2011, 06:05:55 PM
Thanks, Terry, but that's not what I'm looking for. I want to filter out raw photos from view most of the time, not just . Also, I'd rather not waste time building thumbnails if I won't be printing from those files. I normally do my raw processing outside of Qimage and then print from jpegs, psd,, etc. I realize that I can keep the raw files in a different folder but that's inconvenient for my workflow.

Mike - any chance of adding a filter to the view menu?
