2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Startup Error on: April 23, 2017, 02:13:13 PM
Anytime I start Qimage v2017.102 I get an Error Dialog “Unable to load printer driver setting for Artisan 1430(Network)”.  I was having printer trouble a while ago and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for my Artisan 1430. After the driver reinstall the name of my printer changed from “Artisan 1430(Network)” to “EPSON58D21F (Artisan 1430)”.

How do I clear the nonexistent “Artisan 1430(Network)” printer from the Qimage database?

Note: After clicking OK this error seems to cause no other problems with Qimage until the next time I restart Qimage.

Thank you for the help Charlie
3  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Add 16 bit TIF to Save file as on: December 08, 2016, 04:41:03 PM
I shoot RAW almost all the time now, but it seems my real skills are in rearranging photos after the fact. I would love to be able to print finished prints right out of the camera, but it never seems to work that way. I use Paint Shop to straighten, change prospective, combine with other photos, etc.., and print.  I currently import 16 bit .TIF file from AfterShot into Paint Shop. Working in 16 bit seems to give me noticeably better results than working in 8 bit.  Qimage Ultimate seems to be the best RAW (Nikon D700 .nef) processing program when it comes to color and clarity that I have used.  The only drawback with Qimage Ultimate is that it only save a processed photo in 8 bit.

My wish is that 16 bit TIF compressed and/or 16 bit TIF uncompressed be added to Qimage Ultimate’s save to file choices.

QI is a wonderful program for printing, but I also use it as a front-end RAW (NEF) processor / developer for other photo editing programs when more complicated editing is desired. It would be really nice if the option to save / convert an image as a 16 bit uncompressed TIF file was available.  Considering that the backend of QI is already a 16 bit process, it sounds as if this would be doable.

Thank you, Charlie

I love Mike’s unclog pattern although I only run it manual when needed.  Anytime I notice a missing color I immediately stop all printing and attempt to clear the problem before continuing printing. It is my understanding that to continue printing with a clogged print head can feature compound the problem.

I have an Epson Artisan 1430 and I am on my second CISS system. I really hate the $70+ price tag for a set of genuine Epson ink cartridges.  $25 for a complete ink set of 120ml of each color feels much better. I still have less money invested it two CISS systems plus ink than the cost of two genuine Epson ink cartridges sets. My first CISS system worked well but required me to remove the cartridges and the replace them in order to effect a chip reset.  My second CISS system has a button that is suppose to effect a reset when the printer requires a cartridge change without the need to remove the cartridges.

The one persistent problem I have had was if I did not use my printer for a while or we had a large barometric pressure change the ink in the cartridges would backflow into the main ink reservoir outside the printer. I believe I have correct this problem with a one way valve ink damper placed in the feel lines between cartridges and the main ink reservoirs. (See Photo) The ink still seems to draw well from the main ink reservoir to the cartridges even with the damper in place.

The One Way Valve Ink Damper for CISS Canon, HP, Epson, Brother Printers 2sets=8pcs are only $13.99 eBay - Buy It Now - From Hong Kong only took 10 days to arrive.

Each of my CISS systems was under $40 although my second system did not include ink.

I truly enjoy printing all the 8 ½ by 11 prints I want for less than 20 cents a print and with the use of Mike’s Profile Prism and Qimage Ultimate these prints are every bit a good as any I would have had commercially printed.

6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Request new feature (negative to positive button) on: November 30, 2014, 05:12:22 PM
I wood like to say thank you to all these who have commented on my request for a negative to positive filter.  I have found the article that tonygamble linked to be very informative.  It seems very few dedicated negative scanners are capable of handling 2 ¼ square negatives and any that are capable are very expensive.  My current negative copy process seems very workable for both 35mm and medium format negatives.  It does seem I need to do more research into the work flow of converting the negative pictures into positives and prints.  If anyone has other thoughts on this subject I would be interested in hearing them.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Request new feature (negative to positive button) on: November 26, 2014, 12:31:54 AM
Request for new feature:  I would like a negative to positive feature added that would be selected as a first step that would still allow all the other Qimage Ultimate features to work normally.

Photography has been a passion of mine since I was in junior high school, including processing most of my own film.  Now that I have retired and joined the digital age I plan to digitize the thousands of negative that I have produced.  I have tried scanning some of my negatives with an Epson v600.  The results have been fair, but at one or so scans a minute I doubt I will live long enough to finish the project.  Dust also seems to be a big problem when using a flat bed scanner.

The answer seems to be to use my old darkroom to control dust and take a picture of my negatives with my Nikon D90 set to RAW, a close-up bellows, a prime135mm lens, a proper sized enlarger mask mounted to a diffuser box, a SB800 flash for a back-light.  With this arrangement I can copy a whole roll of negatives in just a few minutes.  The D90 produces a much sharper copy with better contrast than my scanner.

My photo editor of choice is PaintShop X6 and it has a negative to positive feature that works very well with both black & white or color images.  PaintShops problem is does not hand RAW files well.

I love Qimage Ultimate and the way it handles my normal RAW photos.  It is my hope that there is a way Qimage Ultimate will be able to help me with my negative digitizing project.

Thank You Charlie
