Followed your advice to change the default printer - even though I have only one real printer. That allowed me to open QU and past that point the rest was easy.

Sorry for being such a bother.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks again for your input. Yes, I tried everything you suggested (shift key included) and more (like a complete update of printer firmware & driver) - multiple times. Still no go. For the time being I'll switch to the 2nd PC when I need QU; far from ideal, but it gets the job done.

I still believe that as long as residual QU elements remain on my PC after an uninstall the problem will remain after a reinstall. QU needs to forget about the printer and its settings that were previously used - else this trap I'm in will continue (it's like the movie Ground Hog Day). "QU-Stuff" does definitely remain no matter what uninstall approach I used, including manual. After uninstalling, I can do a search of my system and still find references to QImage. It's too bad that this can't be fixed/changed.

Please let me know if/when a 100% clean uninstall change is available. In the meantime, I'll remove QU from my main PC.

Thanks again for trying to help.

Mike,

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, the problem remains.

FYI, the print is an Epson Workforce WF-7110.

The curious thing is that the only place the problem occurs is on one of my two PC's and there only with QIU. My wife, who doesn't use QUI, has no problems with the printer. I think we can eliminate the printer as the guilty party.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the printer and QUI numerous times over the past two days (and downloaded a fresh driver from Epson) to no avail. I've used QI for years and never had problems until now.

In spite of uninstalling QIU, I can't seem to get it to "forget" whatever setting it is that's causing the problem. I have to conclude that somewhere in the QIU setup, something gets left behind during the uninstall. The fact that there is no problem with my 2nd PC - which never had QIU installed until yesterday when I was trying to solve this - seems to confirm this suspicion. How do I remove every vestige of QIU? Where might some of it still be lurking after an uninstall? If I could clean the PC of ALL of it, then I could repeat my experience with the "good PC's install".
4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Application Error on: January 26, 2019, 05:58:03 PM
Can't open QIU due to an application error. Error window says "Exception EPrinter in module Qimage.exe at 00177526. Printer selected is not valid."

In an attempt to solve the problem, I purchased, downloaded and installed (latest update v2019.110) on a 2nd PC and everything was fine.

I uninstalled/reinstalled v2019.110 on the 1st PC and the error was still there. I suspect until the "...Printer selected..." is cleared the problem's not going away. How can that selection be cleared when QIU can't be started? I tried uninstalling using both the Automatic and Custom options with no success in getting rid of QIU's "memory" of the problem selection.

Help, please.
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / email change & update to latest QI release on: October 08, 2015, 07:46:59 PM
About 5 hours ago I submitted an email address change - needed so that I could download the latest QI release.

I'm not known for my patience so that may explain this post - but - how long does this normally take? After 5 hours, the DDI download (and registration) system still thinks my address is the old one - which no longer works. I guess the DDI data base update is a manual process?

TIA for your help.

So I'm curious. If, in your opinion, QU post-137 is so bad, why do you continue to use it? Or, put another way, if 137 is so good why not continue to use that when the situation calls for it? Or another option is to use a competitor's product - a competitor who certainly would have held this one-on-one personal dialogue with you and fixed whatever is bothering you days ago. Wink
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Challenges / Re: Challenge #18 Poster Printing on: August 14, 2013, 10:17:50 PM
Terry - Guilty as charged. When I posted that question the thought "QU Challenge" went through my tiny gray cells. Your suggestion worked fine as did your answer to my question about printing four versions of an image to a single page but each with different profile, rendering and BPC settings. I'll have to see what other "challenging" QU uses I can come up with.

I'd be glad to post some pictures if my house were as grand as yours as shown in your example. Must take a lot of time to keep your lawn mowed.  Wink

Thanks for the additional info. I'm convinced. Gives me all sorts of good? ideas since I have a large wall that needs lots of photos.

This great customer service is going to embarrass me into upgrading from QU13 to 14 sooner than I normally would - after the first onslaught of updates to squash the inevitable bugs that snuck through the beta system. I'm happy with QU 13 v.125 and have used a image manager for years (IMatch) that I don't want to abandon - so what I read as a major feature of the 2014 upgrade isn't of much interest. That said, I don't use QU's RAW & editing features either - but will visit them some day soon just to compare with my current workflow (which does evolve periodically). All of that said, the reason I'll eventually upgrade - as I did before - is to help keep Mike's business model alive & well. I'd pay the QU asking price "even" if all that it did was print.

Thanks, Terry.

I took the easier way out and cropped the images. Just a nit, but Landscape is misspelled in the Crop Wizard (will you be defining a portrait or lanscape crop).
10  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Splitting an image to print in four part on: August 11, 2013, 02:53:33 PM
I have a standard 2:3 ratio DSLR image. I'd like to print it in four 2:3 pieces - each piece being 1/4 of the original.

I've done this in the past to create four gallery wraps. Works very nice with abstracts. You can see an example in this blog post of mine. http://edknepleyphoto.com/2012/05/23/gallery-wrap-photo-grids/

In the past I've cropped the image into the desired four pieces before sending them to QI. It occurred to me that I could probably do it all in one step in QI. My first idea would be to take what might be normally a 12"x18" image and use QI's custom print size to say I wanted it to print at 48x72. My problem with just trying this idea is that I won't know if things came out OK until 4-sheets of paper and lots of ink later. What I suspect I'm going to find is difficulties getting each part split equally across all four sheets (and centered on each).

Oh great QI gurus, Fred & Terry (in alphabetical order lest you think I have favorites) - how do I proceed? Or am I better off just doing as before??

Terry/Fred,

Thanks. You guys are the greatest.

A "doo-hickey". I learn new technical jargon every day.  Probably why Search didn't find this feature - used the wrong search term.  Wink
12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: How do I do a side by side: Filter ON & Filter OFF? on: July 24, 2013, 11:15:59 AM
I don't want to "hi-jack" this thread, but it seems a logical spot for another side-by-side question. If a new thread is better, please delete & I'll repost.

My question - side-by-sides with different profiles (sRGB & Adobe RGB) used with different images and|or a different rendering intent (or BPC)? I'm assuming that if QUI is managing the print, then all of these things are "baked" into the file sent to the printer and all will be well.  Huh?

I know this can be done by running the print through QIU multiple times after changing the print location on the paper each time. How about with one pass?

Not absolutely certain, but I think that IMatch (a digital image management program) could help with this.

An easy way to get a fast answer is to leave a question at the IMatch forum.

15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: v2012.219 issues/comments on: July 04, 2012, 02:27:00 PM
Mike,

I'd suggest explicitly mentioning the D800E and not just the D800.

Corel's AfterShot Pro lists both but will not open the "E". The problem is that their converter sees D800E in the exif data (or where ever) and even though the 800 & 800E RAW files are the same, their converter refuses to recognize the "E" (because of the "E" in the name). Even though a work around (rename all of your filenames in the exif data) exists - no thanks to Corel - after nearly 3 months they still haven't issued a fix. I, for one, have better things to do than drag out ExifTool to rename files.

My reason for the suggestion is that folks have been bitten in the past by similar problems with RAW support for new cameras. I know several who will not buy or upgrade products that fail to handle their RAW files - until after the early adopters have their crack at it. They would assume that QU doesn't do D800E (even though it does as I just demonstrated to myself).
