And for those who'd rather wait for the movie to come out:

I found this most helpful.

Yes, the message is caused by the waste pad counter hitting a limit and that utility will reset the counter.  I've done this on my R1800 as well.  However, I would not wait until getting the message again before doing something about it. By that time, the pads may really be overflowing and you'll have a nasty mess to clean up.  Instead, I'd suggest adding an ink waste bottle.  This requires removing the side panel and attaching two tubes that will divert the purged ink from the pads to an external bottle that can be easily emptied.  This is not difficult to install and I think it's easier than replacing the pads later on.  The only depressing thing is that you can now see how much ink is wasted.

You can get a kit like:

http://www.inkrepublic.com/WasteInkKit.asp

Here you can see the work involved:

http://www.inkrepublic.com/KnowledgeBase/R2400WasteInk.asp

There are other videos about waste bottle installation floating around the net.  The kit isn't expensive, but you can also just get some tubing of the proper diameter and a plastic bottle.

Did you perhaps almost forget like I did?  Double checking NCA setting and Best Photo Setting?

Yes, normal target (not bright), NCA and best photo.  Thanks, Fred, I've sent you an email with my address.  It would be good to pin down what's different on my end.  I've heard the Canon LiDE scanners were good for PP, but the Epson V600 is a pretty good scanner also.  For Vuescan, I'm using the settings that Terry recommended about two years ago (http://ddisoftware.com/tech/profile-prism/r1800-setting-recommendations/).  The printed target does come out a bit dark and gives me usable ranges around 26-255, 26-255, 26-255 (even with multipass=4) instead of the 0-255 I can get with the bright target.

Sorry, I should have given the direct link to the image.  You probably got the thumbnail at the top of the article which describes the intent and evaluation of each subpicture.

The full image is a 40MB, 16-bit, ProPhoto space TIF file:

.... I know it's not couth to reply to one's self, but I just downloaded your "Gray" test image from your link.
It's too tiny. 28 ppi at 8 x 10,  43 ppi at 5 x 7, and 56 ppi at 4 x 6

I know Qimage Ultimate is good, but ...................
Send me your email address please.

Fred, I haven't use PP for a while and also decided to profile my R1800 with OEM inks and Epson Premium Luster in NCA mode.  I used Vuescan in raw mode with an Epson V600.  The profiling gave near-perfect numbers and curves, but I'm finding the resulting profile tends to be yellowish.  Black and white test strips have a very warm-toned look, not the relatively neutral I get using stock Epson driver settings.  If you get a chance, could you print something like the Outback test print (http://www.outbackprint.com/printinginsights/pi049/essay.html) to see if you get clean, neutral greys?  Thanks!

So I remembered that I had a little tiny program called ICC TOOL KIT. This allowed me to change the name of the Descriptor. I Google searched for it.... can't find it.

I think this may be it:

There's also some discussion of renaming profiles here:

Biannual and biennial mean "every other year."

Most dictionaries I've seen have twice-yearly as the primary definition of biannual.  The secondary definition is biennial (every two years).

Yes, I also had problems with sort by date in 118.  A directory with about 2000 jpgs (no burst shots or subsecond timings) appeared to be sorted randomly - entire days were not together.  Upgrading to 121 appears to have fixed it.

Since the Ultimate forum seems to be always available, perhaps the Studio forum could be changed to be always visible as well.  Although I'm a registered Studio user, I rarely post, yet still have to log in each time I visit the forum just to read the items.

Any info at all?

Off on a bit of a tangent - with most development efforts going towards QI Ultimate, is there any chance of further work on Profile Prism?  Maybe a PP Ultimate subscription would add a bit of stimulus Wink.  I ask this here because Mike's presence is a bit scarce on the PP forum.

That's a very useful technique known as Local Contrast Enhancement.  I've been using it for a few years, albeit in Photoshop.  Here are some descriptions:

While the 3800 has both Matte and Photo black carts installed at the same time, they both share the same printhead.  As a result, a certain amount of black ink is used to flush the supply lines when switching between the two.  This is described in Eric Chan's excellent 3800 FAQ:

http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp/Epson3800/faq.html
15  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Re: R1800 setting recommendations on: January 10, 2010, 10:58:52 PM
Thanks for the additional information.  I've also been using "professional" profiles for my main paper/ink combinations since they're made using a spectrophotometer rather than my flatbed scanner.  I use PP for lesser used papers and it's perfectly fine for that.

I've used Vuescan occasionally for scanning images, but not for profiles.  I'll give it a try to see if I can squeeze a bit more out of the NCA targets.
