16  Mike's Software / Profile Prism / Profiling my Canon scanner on: August 15, 2009, 04:01:13 PM
Hello.
I just received my Profileprism software and am trying to profile my Canon 5000F scanner.
I have Vuescan set to the settings recommended in the ProfilePrism help file and am outputting a raw .tif file.
PP is always telling me that the colour balance is incorrect by 7-8% and some shadow areas are clipped.
However, changing the WB/colour/brightness settings in Vuescan does not improve matters and I am going around in circles.

Also, altering the brightness/contrast/colour settings in PP do not change the histogram.
What, if anything, am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Digital Photo Pro that comes with your Canon camera?  What do the images look like in that?

A most interesting thread, discussed amicably and sensibly.  Thank you all

Thanks for the solution to the problem Mike.
Yes, ProfilePrism is high on my list and am just waiting for a reply to an email I sent you yesterday.
Cheers

Hello Fred and thanks.  I had selected 'printer' from the drop down menu which did not find the profile. Only 'all' worked for me. Huh?

Hi Terry and thank you for your welcome and reply.
I had copied the .icc profile to the Windows XP Pro C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color folder but had not installed it.
(Didn't know I had to Wink  Anyway, installing the profile has made no difference as I can only select it from the browser window when I select 'All' and not 'Printer'.  Also did a reboot but that made no difference.
It's no problem using 'all' but I just wondered why Qimage could not see the .icc file when that was the format QI should be looking for.
Any further light on this puzzle would be appreciated.
Thanks again
John

Hello.
First post here.
Looking into printer profiles etc. I created one with Vuescan which was called printer.icc.  In Qimage I tried to use this profile under Color Management (ICC) but neither Windows or Utility could 'see' the profile until I selected 'All files' then the browser was able to see the profile and I could use it.
Why should that be when it is a .icc file?
Thanks
John
