Thanks Fred. That is helpful but according to Canon's info I am already running 10. I can't seem to find the pro 9000 in their lists only the mk.2.  The warning window I received about possible compatibility glitches was a popup on restarting my computer which vanished almost immediately. As it seems to be OK at the moment I'll leave it at that.

Thanks.

Happy New Year to one and all.

I use a Canon Pro9000 and am generally very pleased with it . It is certainly not overworked and in 1st class condition but,  Qimage had a seizure last night forcing a hard shutdown. When I restarted the computer and reentered Qimage a pop-up informed me that I should do a driver update on the printer to avoid this type of problem.  Annoyingly, Canon say the 9000 is no longer supported.   I know they are not that expensive but it seems a bit if a waste to buy a new one.  Any suggestions?

Good suggestions. Thanks.
4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Converging verticals on: April 01, 2016, 03:57:12 PM
Thanks both;but Terry's right. It's just as I feared and it leaves me with two choices. Either Use Photoshop or lash out on one of Canon's rise and tilters. That's a lot of money for a limited use lens so I'll probably stick to P/S for the moment. It's a bit of a guddle to use as when you've finally managed to stretch the top of the verticals out to parallel you discover the whole building has shrunk in height and now it has to be pulled up again.

I've noticed a big increase in their use by estate agents, (realtors), in recent years, sometimes with very strange effects as the top of the buildings can look wider than the base.

Anyway, thanks guys.

Is there a function in Qimage for correcting converging verticals?   I know I can do it in Photoshop but prefer to do all my printing in Qimage.

Regards.
6  Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: Changing ink tanks causes color profile to change too much? on: September 28, 2013, 01:17:43 PM
Well, having always used Canon inks in my Pro 9000 I was reluctant to change but as friends were having good results with an alternative brand I decided to give them a try. The prints came out fine except that the colours were totally wrong. The seller sent me a spare set - same result. Back to Canon and colours OK again. As I don't do sufficient large prints for the cost difference to matter I'll just stick to the original.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Info ribbon across thumbnail screen on: May 11, 2013, 05:09:59 PM
Thanks Terry - I've been away from Qimage, photography in fact, for some time and am finding it as quixotically entertaining as ever.
8  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Info ribbon across thumbnail screen on: May 11, 2013, 04:49:45 PM
Can anyone tell me how to remove the yellow info ribbon that appears across the thumbs screen?
Thanks,
Fencer.

Wil,
could you be a little more specific? Obviously you're very expert in all these programmes but for my interests, which are mainly nature and scenic, what is it I am missing in only using Qimage?  The only function for which I still go to PS is the problem of converging verticals in architectural shots.
10  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Screen configuration on: March 12, 2012, 04:11:40 PM
Thanks for the response Mike. I may have discovered my mistake. I had a good read through the help and after following the instructions got rid of the problem. I do find though that one has to watch carefully just where the cursor is sometimes hiding in the  print box and it's very easy to duplicate floating text if you do a wrong click.
On the bright side I found that I could wrap text around all four sides of a print which gives a very nice effect. All I need to do now is discover how to get one of the two borders outside the printing!
Printer by the way is a Canon Pro 9000. Been very pleased with it.

Thanks again Mike.

11  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Screen configuration on: March 11, 2012, 12:50:43 PM
Very pleased with the latest iteration of Qimage and it's clever little touches. Having arrived, several years ago now, via  Rawshooter, (of blessed memory), and clunky old PS, (you could grow old waiting for it to execute a command), it's still a delight to use.

Two small points. (1). When underlining print in 'floating type' for titles or comments, the line will sometimes shoot across the whole width of the page and it's a sod to get rid of as it seems to get lost in the floating print box. I always type in the titles starting at the top L corner of the box but on returning to the box after activating them they seem to have moved and can be quite tricky to find. This used to happen on the previous edition of Q and on a different PC so it doesn't seem to be PC related.

(2). No criticism here but there is a considerable amount of empty space on the right side of the screen below the ops panel. Could it not be usefully used by enlarging the tiny icons, ( hor., vert., etc.) and making them a bit easier to use? In fact all the bottom right controls could do with being a bit less cramped. The space is there so it might as well be used.

But overall a great programme and getting better.
12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Best printer on a budget? on: February 09, 2012, 04:29:11 PM
Without any intention to offend, you slightly remind me of an Irish policeman who once advised me, when I stopped to ask for directions, "Well now Sir, if I was going there I wouldn't start from here". You describe your, I presume, business  printing needs and jump to a wish for a dye sub. And, like most of us, you're on a budget. But shouldn't you first get your priorities in some order. If photography is your prime interest then you buy the best printer you can afford for that. Why must you have a dye sub? the latest Canon/Epson photo printers are superb. Then buy a cheapy for the office work. You can get them almost for the price of the ink. And touching on ink, why do so many people moan about its cost. If you're mainly using your printer for photography most cartridges last quite a while and even ink companies have to make profits. So decide what's most important and go from there.
13  Mike's Software / Qimage / Re: Downloading. on: June 17, 2009, 04:19:06 PM
Thanks Mike. OK, here's what I do, which has worked perfectly for the last three years.
Open Qimage.  Plug card reader in to USB.  Isert CF card, (tried with three, same result).
Click on copy/move icon.

Flash card copy/move window opens in main window.

I ignore renaming, just keeping the date as the file name.

I ignore "Copy/move files like".

Other options: "Image folder auto detect ON"
"Browse TO folder after copy/move ON".  (Don't know what these two mean).

From: DriveF:\DCIM\127\canon
To:           C:\Program files\Qimage

Hit "Copy"

Copying complete, thumbs now appear on main page. I can select them edit them frame them, whatever, and print them but then they vanish.

Above the main window in the "Folders" section are all my folders for the last few years and usually the new one appears at the bottom of the list, arranged by date. Suddenly it has stopped doing this.

Can't think where else they could be. I can go to My Docs - My pictures - Adobe - Digital camera pictures and there they all are, except my most recent ones. I'm not aware of having altered anything but Qimage is a complex programme and I may have hit a button-----.
14  Mike's Software / Qimage / Downloading. on: June 15, 2009, 10:15:40 AM
Suddenly hit a problem. Normally when I download from a CF card the shots all appear when the download finishes and a new file appears, by current date, in the list of files. Well, the download is still ok and I can work on the shots but they aren't being saved to the file. I can print them, I can save then individually but when I close the programme or even just open a new file of stuff taken, say, a month ago, they're not there and I have to re-download them.
I'm not aware that I'm doing anything gifferently or that I've altered the prog. in any way so advice would be welcome.

PS. Mostly raw but some JPEG. Makes no difference.
15  Technical Discussions / Camera Accessories / Re: Filters on: May 29, 2009, 09:08:47 AM
you're probably right Jim; I used to do pro work myself in my Rollieflex days and I always insisted on the best or rather most expensive until taking some landscapes, (black and white), with a cracked orange filter  and couldn't find any visible fault in the final print. Made me think.

Since the bulk of shots taken using a polariser are landscapes where there are truly innumerable variables and the final result can only approximate the original vision I doubt if the "higher quality" glass makes much difference.

I wouldn't doubt there is a mechanical difference but then I've had the glass fall out of a Canon filter too. What shook me with this particular purchase was the enornous price difference. Not just a few quid off but a fifth of some prices.
