1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Trouble with blue on: March 16, 2019, 09:19:33 PM
More details: I do use profiles and the monitor is calibrated. AND, I just reprinted an old JGP photo with good blue skies and it printed the same as the original. I always use "perceptual" rendering. The troublesome photo was photographed in RAW, rendered to Photoshop as an sRGB TIFF, and then assembled with others in a panorama using MS ICE. Possibly something in that process is at work.
2  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Trouble with blue on: March 16, 2019, 05:38:28 PM
From what I read, printing blue can be troublesome. I'm getting too much green (I think) in blue skies. I tried adjusting the color intensity in the printer profile by moving the blue-yellow slider to the left, but could not see any difference even up to -30. So I tried pumping up the blue saturation in Lightroom to +50 and that helped a lot. But it's a kludge - am I going to have to do that to everything I print?

So, should I try Profile Prism? Are there secrets in Qimage Ultimate that I have missed?

3  Technical Discussions / Computer Hardware / Trouble with Huey calibrator on: March 18, 2017, 08:28:30 PM
All of a sudden my Huey calibrator won't calibrate. It says "measurement error" and that means either I am trying to calibrate the wrong kind of monitor (choose between CRT and LCD) or the sensor fell off the monitor during calibration or the monitor is dusty/dirty. None of these things apply - it is just failing when it has always worked before. A quick Google tells me others have this problem but no solution is apparent. I figured this would be a good place to ask for help. Pantone no longer supports this model.

TIA

I've been photographing for 55 years and did wet darkroom stuff at home until the digital age struck. I got an HP all-in-one inkjet that produced hideous color so I gave up on printing. For some reason I wanted to get back in so I bought a cheap but well-reviewed printer (Canon Pixma ix6820, $120) and $50 worth of assorted Canon papers. I've been reading about Qimage and was convinced that color management demanded it, so I bought that too. Setting up the color management using the "V" video link made it almost easy - I just had to find out what Canon's cryptic icc file names meant.

Today I exported the Outback Printer Evaluation Image (http://www.outbackphoto.com/printinginsights/pi048/essay.html) from Lightroom to get it down to sRGB since that is what my monitor can handle (not sure if that's necessary) and printed on five different papers using Qimage. The results were beyond my dreams - truly superb. I now know what this setup can do. All I need is to find something of my own good enough to print.

Thank you Mike.
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Where is the most current help or pdf manual on: January 23, 2017, 05:22:17 PM
My printer is the pixma ix6820. It's not a pro printer but it has enough reviewer pluses that it should suit my purposes as long as I use Qimage.

I've already started watching the videos. I'm sure I'll get there, but it's disappointing to see the hard docs so out of date. Knowing where to push the buttons on the GUI is important. I feel like someone who has traded his 1956 Fairlane for a Prius and can't find the keyhole.
6  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Where is the most current help or pdf manual on: January 22, 2017, 06:47:53 PM
I finally have a printer for which Qimage is needed so I've taken the plunge. The online help is stuck at version 2012.100 and obviously way out of date. Is there anything more current? I don't like to think that I'm going to have to come to the forum with a ton of noob questions like where is area 4 and why is the "+" button turning blue instead of green?

Thanks in advance - Chuck B
