1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Photo mat of exact size without cropping on: March 30, 2024, 01:27:22 AM
Hey, Mike.  I have a similar question.  I am printing on 8.5”x11” paper.  Want to put print in 8”x10” frame.  Image has 5:8 aspect ratio. I want to print as big as possible but retain aspect ratio (all of image).  Want all area outside image filled with black (or any other selected color)

An 8" x 10" frame is 4:5 ratio   .... your image is 5:8 ratio ... something has to give.

Image below overall size is 4:5 ratio ... sky image is 5:8 ratio

12 GB is insignificant especially for 3 years of work.

For occasional printing, it is alot to me .... I am not a print shop or service.
.... and you know that ain't  3 years.

The Photoshop download on its own is 20 GB just for the program.

Irrelevant.

Much better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.  One day you are going to print a photo you've printed before, it'll look a bit different, and you'll want to bring up that past job to see if the settings were different, the exported photo has changed, etc.  Or you'll want to check the date of when a photo was last printed.  Or many other scenarios.

No, do not work that way.

And of course, you can move the exports anywhere you like.  When you install Qimage, it asks where you want the application data: choose the drive/folder you want.  Or since you already have it installed, in Qimage use Utilities, Migrate/Copy Application Data and move it to the location you would like to use.

Migrate ... would that continue to then send exports to drive D :  ?

Would uninstall and reinstall somehow get exports to go to drive D : ?

Thanks for the reply.

Though I've had QU for many years, machine being referred to is since Oct 2020.

To me, 12gb is a significant amount.

I certainly do not understand why these copies have to be made,  if I do not use any of the recall features of QU.

I use QU for printing only.

My drive C: has my programs and a much larger internal drive D: holds all saved files.

Is there a way to have those useless (for me) exports go to the D: drive ?

... regardless, thanks for the reply.

I've use Q for many years.

Today is the first time I realized, it's saving extra copies of my images in
Program Data / dhh / plugins / export.

12 GB worth.

I do not want to save print jobs or anything else. I do not use Q that way.

Just want to make my edits in PS, send to Q for printing , close Q and nothing saved.
No extra files created.

How do I stop this behavior ?

Guess it depends on how much free paper your'e getting  Smiley
They change it up once a month or so. Right now 50 sheets of 13 19 premium pro Luster.
Fred

I got a great deal on paper a few years back ... have not seen that same deal since.

So I really don't give a rat's behind that it is $17.00 for a 13ml cartridge (I get free paper if I buy 4 carts)
So what do you think, am I nuts?

In case something got "stuck" in the driver settings, hold the shift key while you click the "Properties" button to reset driver settings.  Then set up your media size, media type, borderless, etc. in the driver.  See if the borderless setting sticks after that.

Regards,
Mike

That seems to have worked ... setup all my custom sizes, and all gave correct readings.

Thank you !

If I read your problem correctly the task is to print on the PRO 100 an image area 8.125 inches by 10.125 inches on an 8 x11 sheet. You have not been able to do this because the fixed margins imposed by Canon give a smaller image size than the desired figure above.

SOLUTION: Set up your Pro100 as normal BUT in the page setup tab select borderless and where you select the option of "Amount of extension move the slider to the far left Minimum Position. This will have the effect of reducing the fixed borders to a smaller amount that will permit an image to be sized to 8.125x10.125.

Yes Roy ... that is my problem.

Thanks for your input and I tried your solution but it has not fixed the problem.
Best I get is still 8.00 x 10.13.

Must be something with my driver software as every time I go back into the driver settings
the border option is no longer checked or active in both Quick Setup and Page Setup tabs.

12  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Custom Size on new computer on: November 10, 2020, 10:16:29 PM
I see two things that could potentially cause this.  One is that the first screen shot shows "auto crop" is turned off.  That will make the print conform to the aspect ratio of the image: you'd have to turn auto cropping (scissors icon) on to get the exact size specified.  Also, I see you are using a Pro-100.  The printable area of a Pro-100 on 8.5 x 11 paper is 8.0 x 10.685 inches so it cannot print an 8.13 x 10.13 image unless the driver is set to borderless.  I don't think you have borderless activated in the driver settings because the first screen shows "Poster Mode" indicating that 8.13 x 10.13 is too big for one sheet of paper.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks Mike .... tried your suggestions but still cannot get the 8.13.

Turned on auto crop and went into the driver settings and chose borderless.

Though it seems every time I look in the driver settings, borderless is no longer checked.

Just got a new Win 10 machine and upgraded to the latest QIU.

I like to make my prints 1/8" larger than needed as it makes it easier with
trimming to size with my paper cutter.

Setup my 1st custom size at 8.125 x 10.125.

The paper size shows correctly before I import an image, but changes after an image is imported.

This change did not happen on my old Win 7 machine, so probably just a setting I do not
have correct in this new version, but not sure what it is.

Please see image attached.

Thanks guys ... understood.
15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Different print size error ? on: June 09, 2020, 09:21:01 PM
I wanted to print a 3 x 5 and a 5 x 7 on standard 8.5 x 11.

3 x 5 comes out correct.
5 x 7 is 4 x 7.
