1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: v2020.121 issues/comments on: July 16, 2020, 01:56:13 PM
Hi Mike,

Thought I had PM'd you the file but perhaps not.

I did some further testing of the troublesome file. It's 16bit tiff with 4 layers: 2 Text (upper layers) and 2 Graphics (1 and 0)
If I merge the 2 graphic layers and resave (3 layers), the thumbnail renders and the file will print.

I'm not sure if it's working because of the fewer layers or reduced file size: 2,585,938 KB to 1,664,844 KB

Hi Mike,

The file is a composite of original image data (16bit Roman16 licensed files, eciRGB V2) resized, not resampled to 720
File dimensions is 9,000 x 13,465 @ 16Bit

I get the same unsupported results on two PCs, one with 8 GB RAM, the other with 64GB

I just noticed that the Information display for the unsupported file ends with (4).
If that relates to the 1-8 issues, then 4 in the list of issues = Are zero bytes in length

Perhaps this is a Windows 10 update issue and related to the GicleePrinter tiff issue post.

Regards,
Larry

Hi Mike,

Under V2020.121 I am getting an unsupported file type error on a 16bit uncompressed Tiff test file I had printed routinely in the past.
It seems to be related  to #8 in the "Files will be excluded if they:"

#8) Are more than 100,000 pixels on either edge

If I reduce the file from 13,465 pixels (18.7" @720 dpi) to 9,999 pixels it builds the thumbnail
But this is off by a decimal place from the #8 specification

Thanks,
Larry

Thanks for the Automatic (name using first print) in v2020.106!

The easiest way to review yellow is to take a picture with your cell phone.
I'm not sure what is going on with the sensor, but the yellow nozzles will stand out clearly in the picture.

Hi Mike,

This works well, Thank you for implementing it.

As I use the Hotfolders it would be nice to have one additional automatic preference.

Automatic (name using date and time)
Automatic (name using first placed image name)
Manual (prompt me each time I print)

Thanks for the consideration,
Larry

That would be perfect, perhaps as a preference, Job Naming Before Print: 0n/0ff

Thank you!
Larry

Hi Mike,

The majority of Limited Edition Prints are single image files sent from PhotoShop (which I truly would like to eliminate for use in printing), which uses the originating filename.

All applications and RIPS we use that batch multiple prints into a single print file act like QImage, so we use the given output name with a manual cross-reference table
We go this route for full-bleed borderless Posters since repeating them in the same print file eliminates media waste between the individual posters

The printer itself is "smart" enough to know if there is a mismatch between what media is loaded and what media is requested by the print job.
It will prompt for the user to change it, proceed or cancel.

If my printer weren't smart I would just add the media type to the end of the Job name, for example, LimitedEditon123_Baryta

Best,
Larry

O.K. Mike, we can disagree on the subject and I am aware of Qimage's job logging capabilities. I have probably been using your software for at least 15 years.
There are scenarios where resending from software indeed works better than initiating from the printer's hard drive and a similar number of cases for the opposite.

I'll give one for the opposite: In a production environment where specific reprints are consistently needed, it is far easier to have a floor operator requeue from the hard drive and not require access to a computer.
We do this now by a meaningful filename, just not with Qimage.

Again just "wish" on my part as I think Qimage's overall capabilities are excellent.

Best,
Larry

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the reply, but that's not quite it. It's naming of the printer spool file I am after.
For example, I just printed an image and the spooled filename displayed on the control panel of my printer is:  "QIMAGE - 2019-10-19 03.58.21"

I would like this name to be more meaningful in terms of the actual image. In my case, this file can be held in the printer's hard drive and recalled to make reprints
Currently, I have to manage a little reference table that says what the print actually is.

Thanks,
Larry

I have printers with internal hard drives that can store and reprint print jobs from their control panel.
Currently, it is difficult to tell one job from another based on the default Qimage naming convention.

Several options could be workable:
1. Use the name of the first image placed
2. Prompt for a unique name

Thanks for the consideration.

13  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Start-up with Hot Folder Active? on: February 05, 2018, 11:40:24 PM
Hi Fred,

Thanks for the reply. I will check out the plugins, but am assuming I will still need to hit print in Qimage.

I am looking for an automated, unattended process for a tethered camera or networked image drop.

I have the Hot Folder shared and working to do what I need it to automatically (receive, process & delete).

I also have Qimage Ultimate launching on Windows start, but still need to manually toggle the hot folder to "on" each time.

Anybody aware of a command-line option or any other way to have QImage Ultimate launch with the Hot Folder mode active?

Thanks,
- Larry
