Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Saving Print Settings (Except paper size)
|
on: March 19, 2018, 09:18:23 PM

Is there a way to save print settings, but not paper size? I ask because I have created 1 saved print settings for each of my various papers. The problem is that my jobs have varying layouts and paper sizes. Thus, when I select a saved print setting (to account for the particular paper I want to use), QImage also uses the saved paper size, even if it is different than the paper size for my job. As a result, all of my formatting, and page layout for the job is ruined. Thanks in advance as I have about 10 papers that I work with and I wouldn't want to have to create multiple saved print settings (one for each paper size), for each paper that I work with.

Excellent. This was what I was looking for! Intellispace centers on the paper, not the printable area, so that does exactly what you are asking for. Now, if you've already sized your print to "Fit to Page" and your non-printable margins are not centered, realize that it is impossible to center the print on the paper. That is, if the printable area is not centered, you have to use some of the printable area in order to counter the uneven non-printable margins. So if you haven't filled up your printable area and there's slack to work with and your print is big enough (not just one small print), Intellispace centers on the physical paper.
Long story short: if you set placement to Intellispace, it'll always center as close as possible to the center of the physical paper. If it isn't centered, it isn't possible to center a print that large on the current paper/driver setup. Think of it this way, if you fill the entire printable area by sizing "Fit to Page", you can't move the print: there is nowhere else but that one spot to print a print that large. You can't move it down to center it: because everything below the print is non-printable area.

Thanks. I appreciate your answer, but I am not sure you understand my question. I am trying to find a way to automate centering on the paper, not the page. It is not about resizing the Image, which is already sized to fit within the page and allowable margins. For example, if I have an image that is 7.5x9, which fits within the borders for all media types supported in the driver. However, I have to manually center the image on the paper, because QImage defaults to centering against the "page" (i.e , the paper less the unprintable margins? I hope this makes my inquiry more clear. Thanks again.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Centering to Paper rather than Page

I posted this as a suggestion in the Wishlist thread, but based upon a response from Fred A, I thought it might be wiser to post here. I am working on 8.5x11 glossy/luster (i.e. PK) prints. The problem I am having is that the borders on the short side (top and bottom) appear to be uneven. I have attached a pic which shows the borders as being uneven in Qimage, and this is indeed what I am presented with on the print itself. I am hoping that this is not another Canon Pro 1000 printing limitation (such as the required huge 1 inch top and bottom borders for Matte paper). Since Qimage appears to center the image against the “page” rather than the “paper”, I need to find an easier way to center images. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Center on Paper, not just Page

Currently, the center function centers the image within the printable area, not the overall piece of papee.. This is a problem for printers where the driver defines uneven borders. For example, on my Canon Pro 1000, the leading edge it bigger than the trailing edge for letter sizes PK prints. This means that unless I am printing borderless, I have to manually center every image.

Perfect. That was what I was looking for. Thx. I am looking specifically at backing up my settings for qimage.
There's no "backup" feature as such in QU other than saving various settings as Fred has described. However, one option is for you to manually save these folders to another HDD: C:\Program Files (x86)\Qimage-U C:\ProgramData\ddisoftware\Qimage The latter is the most important as the program can always be re-installed The Program data folder can be saved from within QU by using Utilities - Migrate/Copy Application Data .. At the end of the copy process it asks if you want to use the new location or leave it as a backup. Terry

Thank you. You are very kind. What I am trying to accomplish is not buying into an end of life product. I'm pretty sure QU is unlikely to be dying soon.Q One was, I believe was produced to help MAC users particularly to save them running a special Windows system on their MAC's. Most of them would use other software to process images but Windows users with QU have the advantage of a sophisticated raw processing and editing system as well as full set of features for printing. Let me mention some advantages of using QU: Deep focus sharpening for raw image processing and editing as well as printing. The ability to add Print filters, useful say, if your profile is not performing quite as you'd like it - increase saturation, fill shadows a little, tweak colour balance. Print mattes = uneven borders, I don't think Q1 has that yet. Load and re-name images from your memory card. Albums, Database. Terry

Thanks, I am looking specifically at backing up my settings for qimage. However, what I am trying to understand is how I can back everything up so that if my PC crashes or I have some other catastrophic issue What you need is back up software and separate hard drives(s) to back up to. Fred and I use Easus Todo software: - https://www.easeus.com/backup-software/I use the Home edition, I think Fred has the Workstation edition. I have a set schedule which backs up my SSD C-drive and Data D-drive in various combinations every day. There's daily & weekly schedules to different HDD's. Each new backup overwrites the old one and there's always one that's a month old. Terry

Thank you. The reason I ask is I would like to understand whether there are any special steps I need to take if I need to print targets for custom icc profiles? Yes there is and QU has a special JOB included which sets up QU for target printing. See attached screen shot. Click the Recall icon, select "J" for job and scroll down to {Q} printer target setup.job. Edit: I've added a screen shot of QU settings for a target I printed in January Terry
