1  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Re: Direct In Folder Search Feature on: February 07, 2024, 01:03:42 PM
This feature has been added in 2023.114.

Regards,
Mike

Mike. This is why I have been a long time user of QIU. You guys are just awesome! I have never experienced such good support with any other software developer and trust me I have used a lot of other printing programs. Having this feature has given me back a hour a day of my time! Thank you!

Hi Mike,

I am not receiving notifications when replies come through so appologies for my delayed response.

To answer your question;

We always make prints for customers based on the paper size (not the printed image size). We allow a minimum of one inch border and never crop. Template centered is a great solution for doing this but it can be wasteful when printing on roll media, since we can only add one print size to layout at a time. So, for example I might want to put an A4 and an 10 x 8 inch print (paper size) side by side on the roll (so I don't waste paper). Template centered always maintains the correct print (paper size) but I can only add one print size to layout. If I switch back to standard settings it will only allow me to maintain the correct paper size IF the aspect ratio is the same OR if I have crop to fit selected. Neither of these options work for my production. Essentially I want to use template centered but be able to add two or more different sizes to the same layout. Does that make sense?

Best regards
John

Long time user here and still loving QIU.

This is a feature that I would really love to see in the future. Is this possible?

My images are all organised in to folders by customer names. I'm in a folder and see a long list of thumnails with difficult to read titles (due to long file names). I need to find a file quickly but the existing search brings me to different windows with options to select (takes too long).
A search in folder option would be great. Start typing a name and only images with that title (or part of that title) will be visible in the thumbnails. Then I could drag the image in to job queue and start entering a new file name to quickly find the next image. If this was too difficult to implement a colour box appearing around the specific thumbnails that contain the search term would also be a huge time saver for me.

PS. I spend about 8 hours a day on QIU and this feature would be so great for my workflow. The existing search feature is okay for ocassional file searches but is just too slow for finding an image quickly. (for me).

Thanks again guy's for great software and great support!

4  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate Wish List / Two Features I would love to see on: September 05, 2022, 01:50:39 PM
I've been using QU in a busy working environment for many years and these are two features that would be hugely beneficial to me.

1. Ability to add different print sizes using the template/ Centered feature.
Template/Centered is a hugely powerful feature which I use all of the time. It makes fitting images with borders on standard paper sizes very quick. If it was possible to add more one than print size on the page whilst still using template centered it would be hugely time saving in my workflow. For example a 10 x 8 inch and an A4 Print on the same page layout using Template/Centered.

2. A more simplified file search feature that is restricted to current folder only. Ideally a search bar that is located right on the main screen with a "keyword" search. If images that do not contain any of the search words in the title name were not displayed or greyed out that would make finding specific images in a current folder very quick and easy. The current search tool is very powerful but requires a number of steps and selections. Also I may have multiple files with teh search word valid but then neem to selct the file manually to choose the right version. The above methodolgy would really make QIU great for my production workflow.

Thanks
John
5  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Qimage Ultimate Windows 11 issues on: September 02, 2022, 02:00:52 PM
Looks like the default Mike.

user/AppData/Roaming/ddisoftware/Qimage

I switched off all of the AI options this morning to test and so far I have not seen and of the issues from yesterday. When I have some free time I will try to replicate the errors by switching between those settings. Windows has also been running some automatic updates, so it is possible that this is a microsoft "feature" too

Windows 11 (Defender or firewall) wouldn't be blocking it.  I would suspect antivirus software first.  What are you running for anti-malware app(s)?

Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike. I am not using any other anti-virus or anti-malware other than what comes as standard with windows 11 pro. It's a clean install too.
7  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Qimage Ultimate Windows 11 issues on: September 01, 2022, 11:38:32 AM
Hi Guys,

Using QI Ultimate on a brand new PC running Windows 11 (Clean install). Experiencing some issues with V2023.100 so upgraded to V2023.101 this morning. Issues still persist. I am seeing lots of error messages such as List Index Out of bounds (1) - i/o error 123 and access violations at address OOffD850 in module 'Qimage.exe Read of address 4589575B.

Difficulty adding images to job queue, unable to remove some jobs. Unable to close down Qimage without using task manager.

Wondering if Win 11 pro is blocking access to files?? Do I need to add qimage to an exclusion list in firewall or anti-virus maybe?

Any suggestions please? Thanks
John

Thanks Fred.

So far I have been impressed with the speed and responsiveness on my Win11 machine. Today will be my first day putting this into a production environment so I will report back. Thanks very much for the assistance. You guys are always so responsive to queries!

9  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / File Location for Print Size Settings on: August 21, 2022, 08:14:54 PM
Hey folks

I am migrating my QU to a new Windows 11 PC. Wondering if someone could tell me where my old QU saved the print size presets? I was expecting the application data to copy this over to the new installation but it didn't. I probably did something wrong. Anyway I have everything working on the new install except for my old print size settings. Can anyone guide me?

Thank so much
John

Hi Mike,

I since V2022.104 update I am no longer seeing the image file information on the bottom screen bar. I use this a lot to check profile information. Can you confirm if this is working okay on your machine? Wondering if I need to do a re-install?

Thank you

John

Frankly, what I gleaned from the above is that "YOU CROP TO THE RED LINE" "YOU WANT THE TEXT OUTSIDE THE CROP LINES"
This means to me that the text is for you to see and use until the images are properly trimmed and cropped and the customer does not see the text?Huh?   Do I have this correct?
Fred
Added screen snap . Text is now outside the crop marks

Yes Fred. That is exactly what I meant. Can this be done?

I would like to continue using templates as they work great for me but wondering if there is a way to print the filename outside the crop lines in all circumstances? Maybe I missed a setting?

Hi John,
I am trying to reproduce the example you gave, and I think I am close, but not sure of the meaning; Inside crop lines and Outside crop lines because that seems to be easy to do.
Please see screen snap showing crop lines and filename and path centered under the print and border. Is this what you want?
Also see settings snap.
What did I get wrong?
Fred

Hi Fred

Your example with red crop lines illustrates the issue I have. QUI is placing the file name inside the red lines. We sell prints based on the paper size which must be exact (in other words we crop to the red line). For example I might sell an A3 print and the customer sends me a square image. I need to crop the final page at exactly A3 (where the red crop line indicates) and have the printed image appear centred within this space. I need the file name placed outside the A3 crop lines. Not on the page area since this is part of the final customer page. Hope that makes sense.

14  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Template Centred and printing image titles on: December 17, 2020, 01:03:32 AM
Hi Guys

Really loving the new QIU version. Some terrific new features in there.

I have a question concerning the use of Template Centred setting when combined with the printing of image titles on the page. I am using templates to create my required print sizes on a roll and these templates include some white borders. I print with crop lines so final prints are trimmed off afterwards. As my production is growing I would like to be able to print the file name just outside the crop lines so that orders can be sent to printer and then sorted afterwards for delivery. QIU seems to place the file name just inside the crop lines (on the finished print area) whenever the aspect ratio of the artwork forces uneven borders. I would like to continue using templates as they work great for me but wondering if there is a way to print the filename outside the crop lines in all circumstances? Maybe I missed a setting?

Any help would be great here, but if this is not possible at the moment I'l like to add it as a feature request for the future Wink

Thanks
John
15  Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Question about use of templates in production workflow. on: October 04, 2019, 09:40:04 PM
Mike / Fred

Thank you both for the time you have given to this. From reading replies, I think there may be some confusion, most likely caused by my own poor use of terminology/definitions. Sorry about that!

The existing template functionality is really very good. I can see how this would really suit most workflows. I guess that I would prefer my templates to act in the same way that a page works when using print to file. With print to file I can create a page that is A4 and drop an image with any aspect ratio on to the page with one inch border set and cropping switched off and Qimage does exactly what I want. With a template, I try to do the same thing and the template changes size if the image is a different aspect ratio. In simple terms, if I create a 12 x 16 template, I want it to remain 12 x 16 and the image to fit within the available space, allowing for borders. Just like print to file.

I really like the workflow Mike explained (this will save me many hours when working with single images). It's incredible just how many features I have still not explored after many years using Qimage. I will keep a close eye on future updates in the hope that I can someday use templates in my preferred way.

Keep up the good work guy's and thanks again!

John
