Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / RawCache folder: safe to not backup?
|
on: August 22, 2019, 12:57:26 AM

In order to save space on my backup drive and cloud storage, is it safe to not back up the RawCache folder?
I don't understand the folder's function but I don't think I'm using whatever QU feature is associated with it. It contains images from only four dates and those dates are almost a year old.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Print at a given resolution?

Thank you for the video, Fred. That helps for when I want to put multiple images on one sheet. How do I make a single-image test print without using the test strip feature? For instance, I want to print a 6x6 image on a 5x7 sheet of paper and I don't want the image sized to fit the paper - I know that it will be cropped. What I've tried: I go to the Prints tab and choose Custom, then enter a value into "Size of the side you know" and choose LONG or SHORT. I then get the following Confirm dialog: Selected print size is larger than one page. Do you want prints to span multiple pages?
Answering "Yes" will cause images to be printed across multiple pages. Answering "No" will reduce print size to fit on a single page. Which doesn't give me the choice to do what I want: crop the image. I do tick the radio button for "On - crop image to obtain print size" but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Print at a given resolution?
|
on: July 16, 2019, 08:05:25 PM
|
I have an image that will be printed at 258 ppi when I print it from Qimage. It's a 10 x 12.66 image, so it requires an 11 x 17 sheet of paper. Under the Prints tab, I'm using Custom and specifying one dimension.
I want to use the Test Strip tool to print (perhaps four 4 x 5) sections on an 8.5 x 11 sheet.
I can't figure out how to do that because it appears I must declare the paper size first and if I set paper size to 8.5 x 11, QU wants to fit the image to that paper, which changes the resolution.
Is there a way to print test strips on an 8.5 x 11 sheet and retain the desired resolution?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Sharpening in Photoshop AND Qimage?

...sharpen in Photoshop if you are doing creative sharpening like sharpening only some layers or subjects... If I sharpen some part of the image in Photoshop, is it best to do ALL sharpening in Photoshop or is it okay to apply final overall sharpening in QU (as long as it's not over-sharpened)?

Technical Discussions / Printers / Re: Test image prints poorly (Color Matching)...
|
on: July 11, 2019, 06:39:01 PM

I appreciate the reply, Fred. My question may not have been clear. Before I address that, a note about the images: In absolute terms, you are correct that neither image is good. That's because they're snapshots made from the printed output, unadjusted, and uploaded to this forum as an attachment. Given those iterations, they are not going to look "good." My intention for the two images was to show a comparison where the top was representing correct printer output and the bottom showing the issue at hand. I have cropped and re-uploaded to clarify the differences. Compare the circled areas with their respective areas in the top image. When you set the driver to color matching NONE, you are saying to the driver, "Don't meddle with my image. Just print what you get> I will handle the color." That is my understanding and it makes sense since the purpose of the test image in my case is to print straight from a known file and eliminate any potential software interference to determine if the printer hardware is working properly. My question: Why - when in Qimage or Ps the image looks correct and color matching is set to NONE - does the image print poorly? If NONE means don't meddle with my image, shouldn't the printer output be reasonably close to what I see in Qimage or Ps? Thank you

Technical Discussions / Printers / Test image prints poorly (Color Matching)...
|
on: July 10, 2019, 09:28:19 PM

This question is regarding printing a test image (PrinterEvaluationImage_V002_ProPhoto.tif) to verify the printer hardware is operating correctly. No profile, just the printer's driver.
When I print that test image from Photoshop or Qimage Ultimate, it prints poorly when Color Matching in the printer's settings (Canon PRO-1000) is set to "None."
(Properties > Main > Color/Intensity > Manual > Set... > Matching > Color Correction: "None")
When I print the image from Ps or Q.U. and choose "Driver matching" instead of "None," the image prints as it should. Image of print outputs attached.
I was told (for the purpose of testing the printer) the correct setting was "None" and I am reasonably sure that's what I did when I first set up the printer a year ago (the image printed correctly at that time).
The reason I'm asking about this is I'm having an issue with a paper profile not rendering correctly and wondering if there's any relation.
Is there possibly something amiss, or is the color-matching-"None" issue normal and nothing to be concerned about?
Thank you!
Attached image shows the OK print at top and the not-OK print at bottom.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Media Type: Does it override the printer?
|
on: February 04, 2019, 09:01:25 PM

Does Media type in QU override the paper type selected on the printer's display?
For example, if I choose "Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss" in QU under the Printers and Settings tab > Media type does it matter what paper type is displayed on my PRO-1000?

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Re: Spacing of multiple images on one sheet...

There is no way to move the image as the printable area is 8.0 and 4x6 against a 4 x 6 = 8.0 inches. BUT the easiest way to do it, would be to apply a small border, either in color for design, or in white to be invisible. OK on the border idea, thanks. Why is the printable area 8.0 on an 8.5 paper? Isn't there a way to configure QU to have less than a 1/4" border?

There is no way to move the image as the printable area is 8.0 and 4x6 against a 4 x 6 = 8.0 inches. I didn't realize the printable area was limited to 8.0. If that's true, how are borderless prints made? (I have no intention of printing borderless - I'm just wondering) BUT the easiest way to do it, would be to apply a small border, either in color for design, or in white to be invisible. Either way, you get your spacing to cut. See Screen snaps. Thank you, Fred - I'll note that. in QU it looks like if I turn on Borderless printing in the driver, I get a small white space around all of the prints Thank you, George

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Spacing of multiple images on one sheet...
|
on: December 08, 2018, 04:24:31 PM

I'm printing three 4x6 images on one 8.5 x 11 sheet. (Canon PRO-1000)
Under the Prints tab, I've chosen 4.00 x 6.00.
Under the Printers and Settings tab > Media size, I've chosen Letter 8.5 x 11.
How do I get at least a little spacing between the two parallel images to make trimming easier? When I print the page with the three images, there is still 1/4" at the paper edges so is there a way to nudge one or both images a little to create space between them?
I have tried all the print placement options but I don't see any choice that does what I want.

Mike's Software / Qimage Ultimate / Practical way to manage unclog job scheduling?
|
on: August 21, 2018, 03:47:02 AM
|
I use Qimage Ultimate with my Canon PRO 1000. I have the unclog job scheduled for every 48 hours to avoid the 60-hour cleaning cycle. I turn the scheduler off when I'm going to be printing.
Given that I may use the printer daily for several days then not use it for several days, what is a practical habit to get into regarding turning the scheduler on and off without having to go into the Print Unclog Job Schedule dialog and change the date/time?
(If that question is not clear, here is an example:)
Let's say I used the printer yesterday and I might use it today. Then I find I am not going to use it today after all.
So I turn the scheduler on, but the unclog job isn't scheduled to run until after a 60-hour lapse in actual printing.
Then it appears I have to adjust the Date/time of first unclog cycle to make sure an unclog job runs before the 60 hours is up.
