Normally stick to epson paper. Trying a new batch of paper. After 6 hours or so paper is still tacky. Would this indicate that the coating is to heavy and to lighten up a bit?

It has been my experience when ink doesn't dry almost instantly, there's a chemical incompatibility either in the coating or the chemicals of the ink.
That paper makes my trash pail.
I have had paper where the ink pooled on teh paper, and never dried. In that case it was wrong ink. for the paper.
All the papers that I have ever used, dried instantly.... that is not the same as "curing".
Some papers require a curing time for the final colors to set. Some took 24 hours to do that.
The ink is dry, but time is needed for final color setting.

Doesn't sound like you could lighten up the ink density enough and have anything.  Fred is right; major incompatability somewhere. 

What are you trying--paper and ink?

Depending on the paper, it is also possible that you printed on the wrong side. Don't laugh - it can happen  Smiley

Not like I haven't done that.  The worst time was when I didn't realize it and thought I had the wrong paper profile and setting.  NOT caused from drinking a beer; time to go drink one for an excuse.

I printed one of my landscapes on the wrong side and it came out like a Monet painting  Cheesy. When it dries in a few months (if it ever does) I think I'll frame it.
Seriously, some Ilford paper is not compatible with pigment ink, it will never dry.

Ilford do say:

GALERIE CLASSIC papers are only compatible with dye based printers
As far as I can see, they are the only ones where pigment ink is specifically excluded.
