Author Topic: Epson 4900 Set-up Problem  (Read 16563 times)

I have just bought the 4900 & I have a problem setting it up. Inks installed ok, roll paper installed ok, switced to the cut sheets ok, & then proceeded to do a print-head alignment. On the printer screen I get a message 'Call for service, code 1572. Power off & then on, If this does not work note the code & call for service.' I googled the error it applies to 'ASF Pickup Roller error' .I cannot get past this warning,  This is a Bank Holiday week-end, so it's too long to wait for help! As I'm only going through the install procedure, the printer is not connected to the computer, (haven't reached the stage of the procedure where it asked for the software disc) Has anyone encountered this problem & found a way around it? I have installed the Epsom 1800 & 3800 without problems. I was hoping to spend the week-end enjoying my new toy!

Just took a fast look and there's brand new firmware for the printer from Apr. 15.

Have a look at that.

Thanks, Fred, for your prompt reply. The utube video was the one I was following when I was installing the printer. I got as far as aligning the print head when the error message appeared & I just can't get beyond it to do anything else. The printer is not yet connected to the computer & I am reluctant to install the drivers from the disc, as I would like to follow the procedure as laid down in the manual.

How about the firmware update?
It's usually put out to correct machine problems.

I was thinking of that, but wouldn't I have to install the printer driver & connect the printer to the computer first?

I would certainly try.
I downloaded and installed the driver and I don't have the printer. That certainly wont hurt anything. make believe you didn't try head alignment, and went right to install the driver and hook up the cable.
You can always uninstall if you need to.

Just trying to help based on what you said: a 3 day weekend and no one to call.
You really can't hurt anything.
Does the Owner's manual help you to trouble shoot.?

Fred, your help is very much appreciated, would you suggest installing from the disc or the download?

I just did install from the downloaded driver, and it is as smooth as can be.
Also, if there is an updated driver (which is quite common to see), it will be the download driver. The disks are created in bulk numbers to go with shipping the printer.
So I would download and install.
