Title: Epson R1900 Post by: Jeff on February 28, 2015, 11:27:44 AM My R1900 is showing message "Service Required"
I presume this is the waste ink pads and counter - end of life :) Any body have experience of resolving this problem? Info would be helpful before I go down the road of replacing the pads or fitting an external collection tank. Jeff Title: Re: Epson R1900 Post by: Terry-M on February 28, 2015, 03:20:08 PM Hi Jeff,
Quote Any body have experience of resolving this problem? I think there is way of resetting that message - it has to be done once any internal pads are replaced anyway. If your printer does look too messy inside, you could perhaps re-set and carry on.See this web page: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?infoType=FAQ&oid=94511&foid=172965 (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?infoType=FAQ&oid=94511&foid=172965) It tell you why the message appears and gives a link to download a re-set utility. You have to agree to T&C's first. I think I saw that yesterday and thought a bit of a palaver, I was hoping for an easier way out of prob. I have somewhere the full maintenance manual, will look it up and see about changing the pads. Jeff Title: Re: Epson R1900 Post by: Terry-M on March 01, 2015, 01:16:36 PM Hi, Jeff,
You will still need to do a re-set after changing the pads. It said reset was not necessary at this time :) :) Printer still giving warning so will wait and see what happens. It talks about the reason for the tank and pads filling up. Mainly, Borderless, and number of cleaning cycles. Frankily, I have gone through enough printers; an HP 2000, a Canon i960, a 1280, an R 1800, and now an R 2000, that I think I can offer a fair opinion. I think the basic premise of Epson's statement is correct. If the nozzles and heads require cleaning that often, something like loss of pressure in the heads (leaking) is going on. It might cause a Filled tank warning and a stoppage of the printer, and you might be able to squeeze a little more out of it, but for me, it is a signal to make printer funeral arrangements. What I am trying to say is that the tank is a symptom more often than a cause. Fred Title: Re: Epson R1900 Post by: Jeff on March 02, 2015, 07:52:41 AM Fred.
I think that is fair comment. Had a lot of 'trouble' in the past with the CIS but with the help of Qimage ink purging once a week, have of late got it working without frequent head cleaning cycles. Sods law comes to mind. Will plod on and see what happens, enough on my plate at moment with the new OLy. Primed the supply again and after a couple of attempts got the 'pad reset prog' to run now all appears well again.
I have placed the printer on a sheet of MDF just in case of an ink flood. Jeff Title: Re: Epson R1900 Post by: Fred A on March 17, 2015, 08:55:25 AM Quote I have placed the printer on a sheet of MDF just in case of an ink flood. Does your wife know you still wear those? Fred |
