I don't know if anyone recalls, but I was about ready to toss out any hope of ever being able to print on my Canon i960 and the old HP 972C again after migrating to W7 64 bit.
I also have Vista 32 and both printers work fine from Vista.
I poked around the internet and found a "patch" for the i960 that said it will make the Canon run in a 64 bit environment, and it worked!!
Armed  with Firefox, and giddy with success, I tried the same with the old HP 952C which is basically a print the invoice or the email  kind of printer. We use it for everything except photos.
Lo and behold! I found a page which looks like it was written by a joint effort of HP and MS together. It explained that the 64 bit generic printer driver will run the printing part of the printer, no extras.
That would be fine for me.
The trick was to *not* install, remove if it was installed, and ignore the old driver.
Just plug the printer into the computer via USB and W7 will eventually see it and pull out the generic driver and install.
I went better than that. I turned on my wife's computer to which the HP 972C is LPT1 connected, and showed it to my W7 via the network.
Holy Moley Batman! It worked. W7 saw the printer, installed the driver on my computer (W7 64), and all is working right again.

Sounds like a happy Xmas story.
It is, but it's real.

I wish I could get a driver for my Canon LBP810 to run from Vista.

Jeff,
First look, I found the driver for the printer for W7 and Vista. (Driver R1.10V1.10)
But that was too easy.   Are you looking for 64 bit Vista, perhaps?

Jeff,
That driver was released two days ago.
That's why you might have missed it.
