Hello,
I tried to print 10inx8in on an A4 paper, but the picture is off center.
In Qimage I tried custom size – 10inx8in and original, and then scale it down with no success.
Printer driver/ size is set to A4, I tried: user defined and input exact paper dimension with same outcome.
Paper settings in the driver: source/ manual feed/ printable area/ centered

I am running Windows XP 32bit and Epson 4880.

Thank you in advance

What is your print placement setting in Qimage. Use Optimal Spaced or Centered.
I just set up the driver here and set the paper to A4 and the print size to 8 x 10. I use Optimal Spaced, for my placement and checked out the position of the print on the page using the Full Page Editor and Location tab in Qimage.
I click the CENTER button and I show .85 inches on either end of the 10 inch side, and .14 on either end of the 8" side.

I can confirm I got the same result, centred perfectly.
One other thing to check, in Page Formatting, Page Margins, make sure there are no extra margins added there, click "clear".

I use only: center

Fred, how I can see those margins and full page editor? When I click the center button, I see nothing. Huh?
I have a copy of Qimage Pro 2010/202.
Terry,
I clear margins in "Page formatting"
Everything (settings in Qimage and driver) seems to be fine and "print preview" window shows the picture with nice even margins.
The last one printed shows borders on the long side: 2.9cmX3.5cm. I can  hardly say that is a centered image. Roll Eyes
In Qimage (print queue) the picture shows dimension: 10inX6.18in which is fine as I cropped it.

regards

I think Fred is out for a while at present.
You open the Full Page Editor with the right hand icon under the page preview on the main screen.
Click the Size position tab and on the right hand side yu will see all the dimensions. Position is given from th edge of the page and includes the margin value.
If I understand correctly, all looks good in Qimage, (but check again in the FPE) but the print comes out with the image not centred?
The only other thing I can think of is your paper is not A4 or there is something odd in the driver that we've missed.  :-\

I'm just in for a few minutes and then out again for a while.
You do understand that the 10.0 x 6.1 print size tells us that you have the permission to crop scissors off.
You wont get an 8 x 10 like that.
Did you want 8 x 10?
It also sounds like you didn't get into the Full Page Editor screen in Qimage. When you do, you will have 2 tabs at the top; one for cropping and the other for Location on the page.
See screen snaps/
One shows the Location screen where you can see the position of the image on the page.
The other shows the right hand button that takes you to that Full Page Editor screen as well as the crop scissors to make your full 8 x 10 if you need that.

Be back about 3:00 PM EDT, or maybe Terry will be here before that to help you.

Fred,
I do not care much for the size of the printable area as long as margins are even around it. Depend on the aspect ratio of the image margins could be not equal all around it, but should be the same from top to bottom and side to side.
I went to FPE set “print location” – centered. Margins are: 1.04inx0.85inx0.85inx1.04in and printable area is 9.99inX6.18in.
I am sure the sheet of A4 paper is: 210mmx297mm
That is great if I can print it. I will give a go and will report back.
Driver settings are as you already know.

I printed the picture.
The printable area should have been: 157mm.x254mm. (I will write in metric) and margins: 27mm top/bottom and 22mm on both longer sides. All these according to FPE.
What I get is: margins: 35mm and 28mm on the longer sides. Actual printable area on the wide size was 145mm not 157mm as should have been. I stopped printing when I saw these uneven margins in order to save ink and do not know how long would have been the longer size of the printable area.

(I will write in metric)
As long as you can do both, I would appreciate Inches....
Ok I have one important question left.
What does Qimage report as the size of the print on the lower left box called the View Print Queue?
That would be the white area just below the thumbnails. It will give you the filename , print size and ppi and print file size.
I need to know what size is reported there.
If that says 10.0 x 6.1, or whatever your goal was, then Qimage is sending the correct information to the driver.
You mentioned printable area. Printable area is the maximum size print you can make on that paper size (without invoking borderless).
It doesn't enter the picture here.
You are striving for 10.0 x 6.1, as I read it.

I just built up an A2 page with 11.025 x 8.033 printable area showing at the upper right. I mention this to verify we are doing the same settings.
I placed a cropped image into the queue set for 8 x 10 print size with crop scissor off and I get a print size of 10.0 x 6.8 (close enough to your 6.1)
I go into the Full Page editor to verify, and in the Location tabbed section I read 0.85 both sides, and .74, top and bottom (landscape print)
You should read the same except for the tiny difference in print size.

I close the Full Page editor screen and I check the View Print Queue as mentioned above.
It says my print will be 10.0 x 6.8. That is what Qimage is sending.
If you get a different size print from the printer, the driver settings have been tampered with.
Click HELP in Qimage, and select and press, RESET PRINTER SETTINGS.
You will have to re set the paper type, the quality and the color settings on or off depending on whether you use a printer profile in Qimage.
Don't touch anything else related to scaling, enlarging, shrinking or making lima bean soup!

I have attached two more snaps.
This should take care of it.
You can see the filename and print size in the Queue, and in the other snap, the location of the print being even.

Let us know if it worked out for you.
I am using a 4800 printer driver to come as close to yours as possible.

Hi Fred,
I printed the picture with settings you can see by the shots attached.

I have done this before to print the picture.

I have done this as well.
The picture is exactly the same size as it is in the “print queue” – 6.18in.x10in.
Margins are: top - 1.25in. , bottom – 0.39in. , left – 1.18in. , right – 0.51in. on the paper just came off the printer.
I think when “centered” is selected in the driver and in Qimage FPE, the print is moving from top to bottom increasing top margin.
Fred, I am not strictly following this print size. I can shrink it a bit.
Those pictures I am trying to print are for presentation (portfolio). I need them centered with reasonable margins, even all around the picture or at least equal – top/ bottom and left/ right side.
Thank you

Atanas

I think when “centered” is selected in the driver and in Qimage FPE, the print is moving from top to bottom increasing top margin.

So why do you need to center in the driver?
As a rule, (I don't have the manual for the 4800) Epson printers need some paper margin for handling/housekeeping.
Usually, this is .55 inches.
Qimage is taking this into account when you click CENTER in the FPE.
Look what happens when you do that.
First snap shows the right side margin at 1.07 inches. (That's .63 + .55 (rounded off))
Click Center. Now we have .85 and .85 for left and right.
See snaps
I turned on CENTER in the driver and turned it off, and look what happened to the numbers showing position.

Add your image to the queue. Check the Full Page editor for placement. Click CENTER, and try it without using Center placement in the driver.

Give it a try
Fred

Hi Fred,
I reset the printer to its default settings by the panel on the unit.
Can you guess……….working as it should be.
I did the mistake to listen to Epson support rep. who said: it is nothing to do with printer settings.
Thank you for your support!

Kind regards
Atanas
