Title: qimage and epson 3800
Post by: enzomoto on October 04, 2009, 03:17:37 PM
trouble printing 17x22 thru qimage to my epson 3800.  i am using vmware fusion/quimage on macbook pro.  8x10 print perfect and in 15seconds but 17x22 setup puts the image cropped and cut off and in quadrant.  if i choose to print say a 3x5 center'd on 17x22 paper, it slightly centers it but it is again cropped.  the viewing looks perfect as to placement on screen with qimage soft proof etc but after you hit print it prints to paper incorrectly (which takes up to 20 minutes for 17x22).

HELP

Could you clarify what you see?
Is the 3 x 5 cropped so it is no longer a 3 x 5, or is the image inside the 3 x 5 print cropped?
What size print does Qimage say it is making in the lower left part of the main screen, the queue?

You can try HELP RESET PRINTER in Qimage. That will set the printer to default settings.

HELP

Sounds like the settings are off in the print driver. Check Scaling and stuff like that.
I just experimented with the driver, and scaling will do just about what you describe. Then doing a HELP and RESET Printer from Qimage will fix it.

i had tried resetting etc but to no success.  the print queue and the printing image looks just fine and centered etc on the correct page but it will not print to the desired size.  as i said, all works just fine when it is set to 8x10 or letter size but when i chose to use 17x22 paper all goes south

I can see what is happening, but I don't have the manual or the printer, just the driver.
When I select 17 x 22 paper, the output automatically grays out the 17 x 22, and substitutes a smaller size; input paper feed is set to Manual Front.
See screen snap 20 of Manual Front paper feed. You can see the paper size shows 17 x 22 to 8.5 x 11.

If I change the paper feed point to Manual Rear, then I get what you see in snap 21.
Then I get 17 x 22 to 17 x 22, indicating that it seems to be accepting and keeping the 17 x 22 paper size.
Have a try changing the feed and see what happens.
Must be someone out there with a 3800 and 17 x 22 paper to test this.

Hi
Turn on the preview in the printer driver - does it show the full image? If it does, it is probably a spooling issue. I don't have any experience of Macs, but perhaps VMWare is not making enough memory available to Windows, so it may be a configuration issue.  I notice that on the QImage website it says 'Use Virtual PC or Parallels to run on a Mac' and doesn't mention VMWare.

thank you for the info.  vmware is fusion.  with 8 gig of ram, i have increased the memory from 2 to 5 and still i can't print to 17x22 paper.  it takes about 30minutes for a "fit to page" and when it prints it is cropped/segment and off center.  letter size works perfectly and prints in 8-10 seconds.  out of straight photoshop (mac) i can print to any size with no problem, errrrrrr

Did you see the two screen snaps in my last post that pointed out the probably cause of the driver setting problem?
You made no comment at all other than referring to your MAC and the simulated PC app.

open windows for print and job properties

Just click on the Job or Print properties bar.
See screen snap.
BTW, you can set the panel behavior to either auto or manual so it will self close or need a click to close. That is in VIEW

I think I would go to HELP in Qimage and click on RESET all Program Settings.
If you still have a screen problem after that, I would look at video memory or your graphics  card.
You made some change to Windows memory configuration; maybe put that back???

You say that you tried front load setting and rear load setting and neither allowed 17 x 22?

See attached screen snap.
Can you manage to try your settings this way? I made a 15 x 20 print all the way to print preview (turned on in driver), and it looks like a winner!

If the paper is wider than 16.5 inches, use the auto sheet feeder or rear slot if allowed for your paper type.  The Epson 3800 will not print over 16.5 inches from the front feeder.  Per the Epson instruction book.
