Suggestions for R2000 refilling

I'm going to be buying an Epson R2000 soon to replace my R1800. I don't do enough printing to justify a CISS, so I plan to refill on my own. With my R1800, I first tried refillables, which proved unsatisfactory, moved to a CISS, which worked wonderfully when it did work, then went to refilling Epson OEMs, which seemed to give the most consistent results. The main problems I encountered with the refillables and CISS were what most people refer to as "clogs", but I have come to the conclusion that the problem wasn't really "clogs", but rather that ink was flowing onto the printhead as a result of poor venting control, and blocking the nozzles from expelling their ink onto the paper. I came to this conclusion after trying refillables again (from two different suppliers) and noticing that when I moved my printhead out of the way to clean the parking pads, I wound up with puddles of ink that dripped out of the printhead and onto the sponge under the paper path. I replaced the wiper and things cleared up for a while when I used refilled OEM carts, but the problem "clogs" instantly returned when I switched back to the "China carts".

Does anyone have suggestions for refilling, or refillable, cartridges for the R2000? Right now I'm looking at a set with ARC chips from InkOwl.com:

I also have a lot of bulk ink from my R1800 refilling days and was wondering whether it would be compatible with the R2000. I see that the R2000 has orange instead of the R1800 Blue, but still uses the CMY, Matte and Photo Black, as well as Red and GLOP, the same as the R1800. I realize that the R2000 uses the Ultrachrome Hi-Gloss 2 inkset, but since I will be profiling anyway, would it hurt to use the R1800 inks along with only orange bulk ink for the R2000.

I went through the same progression as you.
Had a wonderful R1800, and it died after many years. Went to an R 2000, which, by the way, is far more economical with ink, and a much better printer too.
The inks are different colors... You have an orange and no blue...
I found when using third party inks with the R 1800, I would get enough clogs that required cleaning, plus the printer had a characteristic when you changed one cartridge, i went into a cleaning cycle that tool 1/4 of the ink to complete it.

I decided with the new printer, I would try to stay with OEM ink if possible.
So, I went to Amazon and found OEM Epson ink in an 8 pack for about 25.00... I am on my 4th pack. Original ink in shrink wrap, no boxes. Some claim they are outdated, but not so according to the dates that the driver shows as Manufactured on...... Click the info button on the driver, Ink Monitor screen.

Might be worth looking into...
The cartridges are 17ml instead of 13ml as appeared in ther 1800.
That helps too.
But the prints I get are just magnificent!!!!!!!!!
There were a few shades of red that the 1800 just could not reproduce.
This one fixed that issue.

Like Fred, I've had similar bad experience with both refilled cartridges and compatibles with an R800, despite the compatibles being a UK brand claiming to be manufactured here.
I am very doubtful about the use of refillable cartridges.

I too acquired an R2000 last year and am also delighted with it, great colours and economical.
Yes, I too have bought bulk packs of genuine Epson ink from Amazon UK for a fraction of the normal price.

As for using R1800 inks on an R2000 - I would think there's more to it than making a profile for the inks, the driver is designed for a particular set and will still have an effect even on colour managed printing such as balance of ink flow for different paper types. The term "false economy" come to mind. Shocked

I suggest you get the printer and enjoy it with the OEM inks that can be obtained at reasonable prices.

Refilling is not for everyone, but it does work and can produce reliable results equal to, or some claim better than, OEM inks for about one tenth the cost.

So I went for it. Epson had refurbished R2000 for $349 and also qualified for $100 rebate. I got 3 sets of carts on eBay for $60 from Henry's in Canada. Prints are magnificent, as Fred and Terry said. I've been printing some test images using various settings in the driver (AdobeRGB vs. sRGB vs. ICM with QU pRGB.icm). I noticed that there are several profiles for the different types of papers, and I was wondering whether I should be printing with ICM OFF in the driver and then specifying the correct printer profile in QU or whether the profiles are applied appropriately by the driver depending on the paper type and color setting (aRGB/sRGB/etc.)

I did notice that with the pRGB profile, there is some banding in the greens and even color inversion to purple in the magenta areas of the color maps. I can post an image if needed.

When using a printer profile that matches the paper and ink, then the driver must be set to No Color Adjustment. See screen shot below.
If you do not have a profile, then use "Let driver manage colour" in Qimage and set ICM in the driver. For both settings the paper type set must be set to match that being used too.
