Hi to all,
I am relocating from southern Australia to far north Australia and was wondering if those who have transported epson printers had any tips on moving them nearly 3,000klm by road.
Really don't wan't to go to all the trouble of draining etc etc, so looking for best case scenarios.
Thanks folks.

For that distance, Epson recommends draining the ink per the manual.  I transported my 7600 about 960 miles by doing nothing more than rolling it onto a truck on its stand.  It didn't work very well before the trip (a lot of clogged jets) and it had about the same problems when it arrived.  Wink  I decided to take the risk just because it wasn't usable and needed service anyway and I was out of time for proper shipping procedures.  I think you're probably rolling the dice if you don't follow the ink draining/shipping procedures.  I found this link.  Maybe it'll help:

Mike,

Thanks for that, I will probably tape the heads in position, leave them on their stands and see what arrives at the other end.
By the way, congrats on this board, as a long time user of Qimage it's good to see a central location now for all devotees.

Hi Eric,

Something funny happened during that last post. It posted itself after I typed Eric.
Anyway I move an Epson 4800 between my 2 homes in Auckland and Wellington regulary. A distance of 660km, I have no problems at all.

Thanks folks.
Personally, I moved my 9800 about 1000 km, with the cartridges out and made sure the waste tank was completely dry.
Locked the print head in place with the standard lock and used the mechanical bolted lock that comes when new.
Removed the stand and laid it on some foam protector to absorb the bounce.
Also make sure that it is well protected around the printer and nothing hard is vibrating against it, like mine did. Huh?

Ended up wearing the paint of one particular area with all the vibration.

I know of someone who moved a 4800 with the waste tank full, and they ended up having to strip the machine to get ll the ink out of everywhere. Shocked

Good luck Wink
