If color management is all about using a consistent workflow, then something about profile generation doesn't make sense to me. If I adjust the settings to get a more evenly distributed histogram and reducing clipping, don't I need to be making these same adjustments when I am scanning photos and using the resultant .icc profile? Save whatever settings (in the Epson scanner interface) you're using to scan the target and recall those settings, along with the icc profile, when scanning photos.
