Hi

I use my Canon FS2710 film scanner with Vuescan Pro and have profiled that scanner with an IT8 target for Fuji Provia trannies, but with little or no success when using Vuescan to create and use the profile.  Will Profile Prism allow me to create a profile that can be used directly by Vuescan or will I have to create a "neutral" scan using Vuescan and then apply the PP-generated profile in Photoshop (or any other ICC-aware image editing app) in order to correct the image?

Also, why can't I purchase Profile Prism without the included IT8 target which will be of little or no use to me?

Hi GisKard,

If it were me, I would be chasing the Vuescan guy.

wrt the IT8 target, there is an associated text file, with entries matching the particular target - when you purchase pp, it's built into the software. If you have a similar file with your target it may or may not be in the correct format for profile prism. At least, if you buy from Mike you get pretty good support, and maybe he'll give you a better reply than mine  Smiley

Best wishes,

Ray

From my past experience, support from him is almost zero. You could always try  :-\

Vuescan and scanner profiling are at odds it seems. I've seen numerous discussions on various photo forums about Vuescan profiling and how it never works.  My own experience was that after profiling my Canscan 2710 film scanner with a Wolf Faust IT8 trannie target, my scans had a slight magenta cast.

After reading more about PP, I'm wondering if it will allow me to profile my film scanner as it does seem very biased towards flatbed scanners.

I have the same question about PP without the IT8.  I also have the Wolf Faust charts and data CDs.

Since I used the charts and sent the files to Mike so he could create new camera profiles, it would follow that he uses the same system.  I have both 8x10 and 5x7 charts.

Of course, it's up to Mike but I don't need more charts.  And, there is no way to trial PP.
