I've read the cautionary message about the perils of using a Canon scanner, but wonder if with the passage of time that is still relevant. In fact, I just downloaded the current drivers for the scanner, and they are of very recent date. (Perhaps the update obviates the clipping problem mentioned.) What I'm saying, I guess, is that while I've made my mind up to bite the financial bullet for Prism, the additional $50 or so to buy VueScan would constrain me from going ahead.
I'd appreciate your opinion as to the 64bit question, as well as the scanner issue.
Ok, I'll have a try at answering.
Canon scanners are not frowned on, but recommended in the LIDE configuration.
I believe Terry has your model scanner and I know he is successful.
Usually, the problem is the scanner driver that doesn't allow itself to be taken out of the picture.
It is similar to why you want to use a printer profile. You do not want the printer driver to affect the color of the print. So you set the printer contol to OFF when making or using a printer profile.
Same for the scanner. When you scan your targets, you want no adjustments of corrections made to the scan by the scanner driver, so you need a way to turn that off.
Armed with that information, you could go through your scanner software and the book to see if there is such a mode.
Terry should be along soon to add to this with his Canon model and experiences.
64 bit is not an issue... Profile Prism works on either 64 or 32
I make all my own profiles, using a very cheap Canon LIDE (89.00) scanner, but I need Vuescan to run it.
Hope some of this helps.
