Hi all, I have an Epson A3 Stylus Photo 1500W and use Precision Colors with this Paper Company (which is very good paper) http://www.photopaperdirect.com/now I have Color Munki Photo with good results but for some reason my prints are coming out darker than they should, and that is even when I set the Luminance level of my display below 100, what I want to ask is has anybody compared the 2? thank you;) |

Hi,
Dark prints usually mean the monitor is too bright assuming the paper profile is a good one.
I calibrate my monitor with an Eye One 2 Display device and set the luminance to 117 in the software. Of course you have to set the brightness control to match this as part of the calibration process.
One thing you could try, and some people do this anyway, is set the brightness of the monitor to match the print and then re-calibrate the monitor without adjustiing the brightness again.

Hi everyone I ordered Profile Prism and reading through the instructions even the step by step is kind of confusing, for one in the scanner software settings must be outdated as my epson perfection V37 is different here are the instructions in here
Epson Scanners
(Use the latest Twain driver available on the Epson web site
If the scanner begins to scan in "automatic" mode, click "Cancel" to enter manual mode
Set "Image Type" to "Color Photo"
Set "Destination" to "Epson Stylus Printer (Photo)"
Set resolution to 300 DPI
UNcheck "Unsharp Mask"
Click the "Configuration" button near the bottom of the window
Check the "No color correction" radio button at bottom of window and click "OK"
Other settings should then become grayed
Do not use descreening if that option appears
Scan)
and here is a print screen with my scanner, I would appreciate the help thank you.

I've always gotten the best results by using "Color Control" rather than "No Color Correction" in the Epson Twain Driver (Ver 3.45A). I have an Epson Perfection 1250 scanner and found that I have to play around with the black and white sliders in the Histogram Adjustment to get the best results (see first snap below). I'm not at the computer that I used to use, but I think the values were somewhere around 10-15 for black and 240-245 for white. It's pretty much trial and error, scan the IT8, bring it into PP, set the corners, let it chug away, then evaluate the resultant histogram for low- and high-end clipping (try to minimize the heights of the red bars; second snap below). Once the optimal values have been determined, I save the setup in the Twain interface so that I can recall those settings for subsequent scans of IT8 with printed target.

Thanks, but Vuescan has no RAW output it only has TIFF or TIFF DNG, which to use? also in the Vuescan color tab just leave it at Neutral? anyway these instructions are outdated as the software have updated, I'd assume there would be more support in here since we buy the software. |

Your post above shows the Epson Twain interface, so I responded based on that. I don't use Vuescan so I can't answer your question. The Epson Twain interface worked fine for me, but I have moved to ColorMunki, so I don't use PP anymore.

The "tiff" file will have colour adjustments made according to the Colour tab settings but the "Raw" file does not. so regarding .... also in the Vuescan color tab just leave it at Neutral? Raw in Vuescan means there are no colour adjustments made to the image so what is set in the Colour tab is irrelevant and ignored. I also set Vuescan to do multiple passes, at least 4 as suggested in the PP Help - under Printer Profiling Step by Step. Terry |

That is correct but with "tiff" and "raw" ticked, You do get 2 images saved, one with colour correction (tiff) and one without (raw) but both in the tiff format - I've checked. So tick ONLY raw, otherwise it'll be confusing as to which image should be used. Terry |

Terry Not in my version of Vuescan 8.5.39 Pro I just did 2 scans... as a test I get one image whether I have RAW only or RAW and TIF checked. ... and it is a raw image with no color correction. So I guess the right answer is try it... or as Terry says, leave it off TIF to play safe. Fred |
