Title: Profile Prism - updates?
Post by: PH Focal-Scape on May 31, 2009, 08:19:31 PM
Hello Mike,

As a regular user, I'm curious to know if you are planning any updates of Profile Prism in the near future.

Thanks

PETER

Yes.  v7.0 is planned for this fall.  Can't be any more specific right now but I'll have a better idea on timing when we get another month or two into the summer.

Thanks. I look forward to it.

On another matter, a couple of days ago I suddenly lost access to read the QImage (Yahoo) forum. Any ideas?

I don't know of any reason that would happen.  Are you sure you are logged in under the proper Yahoo account?  Sometimes you (or someone else) can be logged in under a different account and not realize it.

Pshrutpark is correct. Qimage forum has not been available for several days on Yahoo.

Don

The forum is up and running.  There were 10 messages posted just yesterday by various people.  This seems like an individual (Yahoo) account problem or a local internet connectivity issue.

FYI I have no problems with the Yahoo Qimage and PP groups, I have logged in on a different tab without any problems.

cheers

Maybe they have stopped people viewing the forums without having an account.

Actually, I did that!  Didn't realize we were talking about non-members viewing the group.  I disabled "public view" because I want the search tools (and people in general) to find/use this site now, not Yahoo.

Ah! Are you going to leave it blocked?

I think so.  At least for now.  That should really be a private group.  Anyone can join but I don't think robots, search engines, and guests should be able to see our conversations there.  Plus it opens it up more to spammers.

OK .... I understand that.  The reason why I didn't register was to avoid Yahoo "fishhooks" and other annoyances!

I'll flag that forum by and rely on this one.

Enough of this out of topic stuff!

I recently renewed my Prism FTP subscription (after reading about a possible version 7.0 soon!)

Mike, is there any chance we could get a sneak peak at the features/improvements?
I work in IT and fully understand why you can't/won't commit to a timeline too soon, but I'd love to see what's coming

Mike- I would like to put my 2 cents in for my wish list for Pp features:

1) A "drop down" way to select the photo that you are going to use as a "Printer Test File" when editing a profile- currently I believe the only way to change that is to rename the file to be "Printer Test File".

2) The ability to edit a profile that was not made with PP..

Hi all,

My thoughts on update possibilities are towards getting a 'perfect' scan!

I've just completed and imported a hundred scans into PP! It seems to me that PP is well aware when a perfect target scan is done - Since it tells you so. i.e. 2 sectors only from IT8 at max/min brightness and no grey clipped, so when the 'adjoined' PP pattern is selected and appraised (from the same scanner and settings of course) with a 'perfect' resulting histogram - i.e. as per the PP help file pix, then surely a greater comment/suggestion could be given as to why there are 180 squares at max brightness??

For example, could there be a suggestion that the printed target may not have been done using correct (no col mgmt) settings, etc? Or, could it be found by the software on this scenario that "The reason your ideal target scan is not replicated in the PP pattern print is likely due to...... ??? "YOUR PATTERN PRINT IS TOO BRIGHT/ DARK/ ETC ETC ETC. So please reprint pattern and ensure all col mgmt is set to NONE." Etc, or an even more detailed/exacting solution...?

I for one am presently floundering on why PP finds my IT8 scan perfect and the adjoined Pattern to have 180+ X's, despite it also having a perfect histogram.

On visual appearance many of the Max Bright squares are not even near white - so how can they be found to have max brightness - yet a perfect histogram on both it8 and Pattern???

cheers, :-)

ps, Scanner used here was an older Microtek scsi V636 - PP thinks its IT8 scan was great with 2 squares at max/min brightness and no grey clipped!! I even got the scanner out of my junk pile to do this job - where its been for 3 months! :-( Software used was Microtek's standard twain driver D/L ex their website and scan imported via Photoshop CS3 & then saved for PP with no icc profile.

I had another feature to add to PP if it is not that difficult- It would be nice to have more zoom in or out levels of an image that you are editing the profile on so you could match the size of the print you are comparing to..  Thanks,  Scott

I was planning an update that would include a major update to the color management engine that is the "guts" of PP.  That should add some slight improvements in profile accuracy and a significant increase in profile generation speed, but that CM engine update is not yet available.  I still plan an update when that is out and I'm told November.  I have no control over that because I'm not the author.  Other than that and maybe a minor UI change here or there, I don't see a whole lot of need for a PP update.  It has been quite well tweaked as far as performance and some of the things I'm hearing (like ability to edit third party non-PP profiles) don't really belong in PP which I wish to remain a simple profile generation tool not an overall ICC profile toolbox.  But still, I'm hopeful that I can release 7.0 with the new color engine after November when I get the update.

Regards,
Mike
