Was scanning a lot of old photos for restoration and wasn't happy with the color coming off my Epson 4490 Photo (an old one). Decided to whip out my trusty Profile Prism and make a profile. Seems better. One question- the instructions say to scan the target at 300 dpi. If I then use the profile at other dpi, is there any weird thing that would make the color balance change. IOW, is there any reason to have profiles for different dpi? I'd think not, but sometimes the obvious isn't!

I haven't seen scanners change their color response when you increase resolution.  I have not checked recently so I couldn't guarantee there have been no changes that affect that.  I guess the best way to tell would be to scan the same (test) in two different resolutions and see if the color is different.

Mike

Thanks, I'll do a check. As I said, the scanner is quite old. It occurred to me that a profile every couple years is probably a good idea, since the florescent or sensors could change a bit. Probably less of a problem with LEDs, but they can change too, especially if the current is high.
