I am getting ready to use the long awaited version 7 of PP, and have my printed out test pattern and IT8 target ready to scan (on my canon 8800F). I use Vuescan pro and wanted to know what some of the COLOR tab settings should be set at prior to doing the scan. The PP Help file covers most of the settings, but wanted to know where some of the other settings should be (what I set it at):
Color Balance (white balance), Scanner Color Space (ICC profile),Scanner ICC profile (I set it to read the scanner.icc file as I calibrated the scanner using the IT8 target), Printer color space (Adobe RGB), Output Color Space (Adobe RGB), Monitor Color Space (Icc Profile- directed to my monitor profile generated with a pantone huey). Would like to hear your opinions,

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,
You do not have to worry about any of the Colour tab settings because you must set RAW File in the Output tab. That gives you what it says on the box, raw, no adjustments whatsoever.
See screen shot attached below which also shows to other output settings.
Note, you do need your scanner connected and switched on to see the Raw tick box.
Also see the VueCcan Help, Appendix A, Advanced Tools, Using Raw scan files.
Hope that helps,
Terry

Hi Vernon,
Quote
All the Screen Shots that I have seen on this Forum are very dim and barely readable due to lack of Visibility.
Are you saying that the screen shot in my post in Reply #1 above falls into that category?
I assume you know that the attachment is enlarged by clicking on it!
If that is the case and you are looking at enlarged versions of screen shots and still finding them dim, I suggest you sort out your monitor set-up. Problems sometimes arise if the image is too small in pixel size or it has too much jpeg compression, but if you can't see the shot in #1 above, the problem is at your end.  Shocked

Hello Terry,
Your comments are very helpful.  Yes, your normal included screen shot was not clear and readable for me --AND--  No, I did not know of the "click on to enlarge".   After clicking on it, it is perfectly legible and easy to read.
Perhaps I have not read enough details regarding the features of this Forum and I need to do that.  I have read some of the "found details" but obviously have not found the details that would make this Forum more enjoyable and useful for me.
I am rather "NEW" to this Forum even though I have been a Licensed user of image for over 7 years.
Terry, thanks again for your help....
My Regards,
Vernon....

The clue is in the change of cursor to a hand (in may case) on the web page as it moves over the small image, that means there's something to click and see more.

Fwiw, Terry's screenshot opened perfectly for me (when I clicked it and it auto-enlarged here) and was perfectly readable as well.

Just wish I had read his RAW stuff before I had spent two days in the TIFF part with making 150 image scans in VueScan using the "Right-Click on a gray image" to get an initial "White Balance" setting and then fiddling with all the other settings (White point.  Balck point. 3 Colors. Etc.) to get even close to a null point (i.e. with fewer "X"s).

I must say, I did get a better white balance on the "Right-Click on a Gray" and let VueScan get some sort of initial reading to go to when I was messing with the TIFF side.  Just it took too much time and effort with all the other program settings to get a workable (a low "X" number count).  The RAW setting got me to a better scan and fewer X's on the printed target (not the IT8 one) though than the TIFF side did.

Thanks Terry.  Your RAW method saved me a pile of time and work scanning in TIFF.

Hi Vernon,
Quote
Would you please advise how you inserted the Screen Copy file that allows for expanding to a larger, better Resolution, and easy to view image.
I have tried to post such an image in the Qimage Forum and can get the image inserted (using a JPG file) but it is not expandable. I also tried a GIF but it would not display.
When you post, there is a a link for "Additional Options" at bottom left of the box where you type.
Click that and it expands to show a Browse button for you to browse to the location of your image on your PC.
Clicking the image file will insert the file path  in the Attach: box
See screen shot attached
NB. Using the post preview does not show the attachment and if it exceeds 128kb it will not show in the post - I think you do get a warning then.

Vernon,
Your first image looks like it's compressed too much as a jpeg, the second is too small.

Sorry for the mix-up I caused by posting in the two different Forums.
Same forum, just a different topic. You could delete your old stuff here thta is not related to the original subject.
