Title: Converting RAW file to jpg for posting on the web
Post by: DdeGannes on July 13, 2009, 04:38:46 PM
I have recently purchased and installed the profiles for my camera. My preferences in the Raw Image Format table is default settings except I  am working in sRGB for posting to the web. Enable custom profile is checked.

In the refine raw exposure I have adjusted exposure and added some fill it and saved and closed the dialog.

In the create Associative Filter I have Resized the resolution to 900 x 677.
Then in the "Convert Images in the Queue Dialog" I have the following selected.
Apply filters to all; Apply Associative filters if the exist. File location is chosen and quality etc.

When I examine the converted file it is as if the file has been converted the normal raw profile has been applied and not the camera specific profile.

If I however use the print to file option everything is fine.

I have checked windows explorer and the profiles are in the correct location. Win Vista C:/program Data/ddisoftware/qimage/profiles

Dennis,
It sounds as though you have not put  a dot in "Perform a Profile to Profile Conversion" near the bottom of the dialogue.
see attached screen snap.
It would have printed ok because Q will convert from the image profile to the printer profile during the printing process.
Also you do not necessarily have to

You can do this from the Convert dialogue using "Add to" filters

Terry, thanks for the help and encouragement, worked like a charm. The conversion is now improved.

The files were resized for the web in the respective programs.

I'm a bit confused about the profile to profile conversion. I normally print either to a printer or to file applying the appropriate printer profile. But this time I want to print some raw images to sRGB to give to someone who wouldn't understand about the difference between colour spaces.

So I have the raw conversion set up as Adobe RGB as the working space. Does this mean that I have to specify adobe RGB as the input profile for the conversion, and sRGB as the output?

I note in Terry's example above that he has <input> as the input profile. Does that do the same thing?  i.e. take whatever the input profile of the particular image happens to be. So if I had a mixture of images with different input profiles in the queue it would always "do the right thing"?

I can't find any description of <input> in the help (though I'm sure its there somewhere:-)

Would I get equivalent results by using the print to email/web and setting the resolution to be something reasonable?

Yes, it's whatever colour space the processed raw file (or any other file type) is in. So, in your case, it's Adobe RGB.
Just type <input> in the box, that works. Then select sRGB by browsing for it in the Output box.

I have always thought so except that re-sizing is being done and anti-aliasing can affect the sharpness.
Terry.

Thanks Terry. That works just fine.
